[Music] Hello, Morin Nuland and John Rampton here with Search Engine Journal. In this video, we're looking at social media and the impact of social media and those social signals. All right, so this week we're going to be talking about a video that uh was released about a week, week and a half ago. Um it a really really touching story about a boy who was diagnosed with cancer and basically only had a couple, you know, months to live. Um was released on YouTube. It has millions and millions of views. If you haven't seen it, it's great. Uh we'll put a link in the video um to it. But uh wanted to talk a little bit about, you know, social media and how it's changing everything. Um because videos like this, sure it's touching, it's great, but the social impact that it has and the fact that that boy, of course, he he passed away um about a week and a half ago, but after this video was released, the outcry and the people that shared this video, I mean, you know, in a week and a half, it's amounted, you know, millions and millions. I think last time I checked it was around 20 million. It's probably 50 million by now. Um but the impact this has on the world today and how people can release videos and you know outreach and blogs that get enormous enormous amounts of interactions. So I I think uh as far as social media, you know, we need to be paying attention a lot more to what's happening in the world as a business. I'm talking and I don't know, you know, pay attention to that, share those things and then learn from them and pass them on because social indicators are becoming such an important part of SEO. So, when you're doing SEO on your site, social indicators are such a big portion. I I think it's around 30, it might even be 40 or 50% of all SEO is dedicated just to social media and social features and social reach. So, when you're commenting, when you're blogging, when you're sharing, all these people that retweet you and do this, it's it's making a huge impact. Just like this video made a huge impact on the world and it got shared by everyone, your posts that get shared also make a huge impact for your business. For me, it's about the fundamental principles of marketing and PR. Having a great story, really understanding how it's going to connect and why people should share that story and share that content. Yeah. And then distributing it in the right way. Y and you can't do that just by just by trying to build links. You've actually got to come up with okay, what why are people going to love this? Why are they going to share it? How is it going to be sharable? How is that going to travel across social media as a social media object? And then how are you actually going to bring that back? That's why we've seen infographics do so well recently, although maybe there's a little bit of fatigue with infographics. Yeah. Uh video clearly you can now play it on your phone much better. It can be shared much more easily. And I think that's going to be creating that kind of video content that people grab and comes back to your site. I think that's the thing. And as we were discussing uh last week in with the Penguin update, the more likes and shares you get for your posts both on your own site and in other places really counts. And so if you can create that wonderful piece of content, that great video that people um are going to like, are going to share, are going to uh post on LinkedIn, then that's going to give you those social indicators and make you an authority as far as Google's concerned, which is going to make your uh links within the post really count. Yeah. And and I I want to go back to a point that you touched on creating like real content. Uh not just creating content for content's sake. You don't want to go out there and just be like, "Oh, here's what is cool." Or, "We're just creating this to create more content because we know that's what Google likes." The things that are going to have the biggest impact and get the most shares and the most anything are things that people care about and that really resonate with your clients, with your friends, anybody. So creating really cool content that people like to share. So So and with I found with clients it's okay, you started this business, why did you why are you passionate? How are you passionate about this? And actually often they don't want to necessarily say, but you're going to say tell your story. And they can tell that story and if you can get that story across in different uh ways and different types of content and you can actually um convey that to the audience then that's the content that they're going to share because people share the passion rather than just literally a corporate statement.
