[Music] hi my name is John rampton from search engine journal and we have Michelle Ross or stinton Ross I don't know how you and tell us about yourself and what you're doing right now technically online it's Michelle Stinson Ross because darn it Michelle Ross is just way too common um I am with digital allways media I am their director of social marketing and this week I am here to talk about Twitter chats and Google+ Hangouts on air and how to get more media exposure by using those tools okay so uh Twitter chats and Google Hangouts tell me about Google Hangouts so I threw a Google Hangout last week MH by myself I mean it was great so many people came nobody came was just me so what do I do to promote that what do I do to really improve my events uh there's a lot of things you can do obviously there is an option on G+ to set up an event you can go ahead promote all that kind of stuff you're hang out on air in advance that way a lot of practitioners that I've been running into also set up the event on Facebook they cross promote on other platforms um a lot of the Hangouts on air also have a Twitter hashtag that they use so that even if somebody can't necessarily get in on the hangout because of the 10 person limit they can still participate in the discussion by using a Twitter hashtag that kind of thing yeah so that crossplatform promotion is one of the key factors to getting the word out okay um now when you're doing a hangout any tips and tricks uh I I know when I've done it there's all sometimes a lag and sometimes what are tips and tips of the trade that you learned um lots of things that I would point out number one pay attention to your lighting and your environment you've probably dressed and put yourself together to look professional but did you make sure that your space looks professional too yeah yeah um also lighting is really key I've seen a lot of people that sit down in front of their laptop and all you get is that blue glow right in their face so take a moment and make sure that your room is well lit and the camera can actually see you well uh those are big things also be aware of the noise around you if if it's an issue because you're in a public space for whatever reason or your office maybe is on busy street or something so you get a lot of traffic noise be sure and use that mute button often yeah okay uh anything else that would help me with my Google Chat I mean any tips that you would recommend you know to the average user or the firsttime user the one thing I'd say is once you've done hangout MH maximize the heck out of the usage of that video it's on YouTube take that YouTube share link put it in your email signature send it out to your email list use it as a calling C card for putting together the next hangout that you want to do yeah giving people a chance to see what the hangout is about see what you're about is a lot more compelling than just sending somebody a text invite to come hang out with me okay well thank you very much again John rampton here with Michelle talking about Twitter uh goog plus hangout so thank you very much thank you [Music]
