when we launch the new school blog around two years ago I've had an idea instead of putting like a generic stock photo image at the header of the post I will design every time we have a new post kind of a mini typographical poster in the form of a rectangular so that it will be about people will be able to share it on social media because I thought our blog is the audience's designers don't probably value or like kind of a well-designed thumbnail of the post for when they share it that turned out to be a lot of work every time we need to post a new post on the blog but over the last two years I've made almost probably almost a hundred of these kind of poster images here they are anyway right now I have to create another one for a post call I need clients now and Bella shares a bit of thoughts about the process in how I do them you wanna bone not really sure if I like the end result I thought to use monks the screen painting because I need new clients you're panicking and just use this as a funny reference I'm not sure if it's one of my best kind of post poster designs but the thing about those posters is it's very very time limited I'm limiting myself try not to do it in over 30 minutes otherwise I can spend the whole day on it and it's not that important it's actually just a thumbnail so even though this is not one of my best work I kind of want to show you some other ones that I didn't explain some general principles that I think about when I'm doing these things and like I call it posters but any any image that you create today whether it's on social media or whatever Instagram it's kind of a poster and it has to work in the same way it has to work when it's really small it has to communicate the idea if it has text on it it has to be readable so there are like three general principles that that I think about and I want to kind of explain how they work in those three posters this one is onboarding clients most clients are dead and working on weekends so the first principle is concept the concept I mean I'm trying to convey some idea visually right it doesn't have to be literal it's not like if I'm talking about clients are dead then I have to show somebody who is dead I'm trying to kind of tell the story or convey the concept in a metaphorical way so in this case it's about onboarding clients and onboarding it's kind of a like a process so I kind of made this kind of a game where you have bolts in it to kind of metaphorically show how the clients move inside a process where you have kind of a process for your clients here most clients are dead I kind of use the X X kind of a metaphor when somebody stead and here working on weekends I hate working on weekend so I can use this said smiley face to convey the concept of being said when because it sucks to work on weekends so the first the first thing I try to do is think about a concept sometimes that happens just like this sometimes it had take a bit more time sometimes I'm just looking to inspiration to get the concept on today's Forster I just have the like when I first read the title when they send me the title of this post I kind of had this feeling of stress when you need the client and immediately revoke the image of oh my god the screaming painting so of course when you have more references to draw from because you know art you know movies you know kind of visual references then you can draw from that that's why it's always important to get new inspiration and you know get immerse in a lot of different things alright the second principle is composition and composition it's pretty hard to explain you know on video how to create great composition it's hard but the best tip that I ever got in design school as to how to make good composition was to try to make sure that there is something big something medium and something small in in the composition because the way that you works we usually look at the big thing and it kind of leads the eye in some general in a general way you leave the the viewer the reader to to look at the part so here for example the big thing is the X X and the kind of medium thing is the text here we have the big composition of the text I would say that the medium is the maybe a white element and the small ones are kind of the details well it doesn't work every time but I always make sure that there is something big and that there is something smaller it kind of helps to lead the eye so in these examples sar the big thing but in what I did today for example I would say that maybe alright maybe this is the big thing and this is a medium thing but sometimes it's sometimes it's different the image can be the big thing and the third principle that I think is super important to make great poster design is color now firstly I suck at choosing colors so what I usually do is steal it from people who do it better than me I kind of have a Pinterest board of I call it awesome colors I just collected a lot of images with color palettes that I like a few weeks ago to be us on Sneijder also put kind of a page with all his favorite color palette which I stole for today which is super super helpful thank you for that so yeah generally I just steal them because I suck at you know finding it out on my own alright I hope you found that useful umm I gotta finish up some client work right now and then go pack today we're flying to Thailand my mom is celebrating 60 years old and she's taking the whole family to Thailand to have like a crazy house on the beach and it's going to be super super awesome so I'm not going to be here next week I'm not going to vlog probably upload some Instagram stuff so you can follow there if you want or maybe I'll upload one video of the whole vacation or something like that when I'm come back or when it'll be there taking the drone so it's ought to be fun anyway I'll catch you guys and we have a super day
