[Music] in this video I'm going to demonstrate how to download and install the current release of gns3 at the time of this recording the latest stable release of gns 3 is 1.5.3 so go to genus 3.com click on the free download link if you don't have an account register genus 3 is open- Source free software but you'll need an account to download the software I already have an account so I'll log in with my credentials genus 3 consists of two main components you have a GS3 guy and a GS3 VM the GS3 GUI is the client component and the GS3 VM is the server component for now I'm going to demonstrate how to install the guei and get a basic topology with gns3 up and running in a separate video I'll show you how to download and integrate the gns3 VM now in this example I'm using a Windows PC so I'm going to select the windows download option so I'm going to save the file to my local hard drive click open folder so the js3 1.5.3 allinone file has been downloaded I'll double click on that we need to authorize gns3 to make changes so I'm going to say yes and now we can start the installed process we are firstly shown the welcome screen and we told that it's recommended that we close all other applications before we start the setup I've done that so I'm going to click next genius 3 is once again open source software you don't pay anything to use GS 3 but you do need to accept the ganu general public license so I'm going to click agree you can then select your startup menu I'm going to stick with the defaults and click next now the junus 3 install wizard installs various software components some are required and some are optional as an example if you want to run cisa iOS images locally on your Windows PC you're going to need to install dynamips you're going to have to install the gns3 software to use gns3 but other options such as solar winds are optional in my case I'm just going to accept the defaults and click next the next option is to select the installation folder I'm going to once again just select the default and click install now various software components are installed based on the selections that you made the first one is one peap and again I'm just going to take all the default values so once when peap is installed wies shock is downloaded and then installed on your PC now depending on your internet bandwidth this may take a while so if you're in a part of the world where the internet speeds are poor you may want to unselect some of the options so as an example you may not want to download the solar WIS response time viewer which is optional in this case the solar winds software requires. net so that needs to be downloaded and installed as well so again if you've got good internet speeds you could just take all the default values if you live in a part of the world where the internet speeds are let's say not so good you may want to unselect some of the options specify your email address for the solar wind registration and click continue you can now install solar winds accept the license and again I'm just choosing all the default values click finish the core GS3 software is now installed and various other components that are required that's now completed so click next now you can get a free license to the Sol wins standard tool set which is a $200 value click on the link below this video to access that directly or when you're doing the installation you can decide to install that I'm going to say no and click next so the setup has completed click finish to complete the process you takeen to a thank you screen where you where you can access documentation access courses on the genus 3 Academy or go to the genus 3 Marketplace genus 3 also starts up and the setup wizard is displayed now you have two options you can either use the junus 3 VM or a local install of junus 3 I'll show you the Jus 3 VM in a separate video that is the best way to run GS 3 when using Windows and a Mac but to get us started I'm going to select a local server and click next now a lot of you are probably going to want to run a Cisco iOS image with gns3 which uses dynamips on the local PC in this case I'm not going to do that I'm simply going to get Jus 3 started so I'm going to uncheck the check boxes and click finish a summary is displayed so I'm going to click okay here a new project is displayed I'll just give this a name such as genus 3 first project and click okay so now you're ready to create genus 3 topologies at the moment no routers are available there are some bolt-in switches some bolt-in PCS there are no security devices so here's a list of the devices available when doing a standard installation of gns3 I'm going to use a vpcs device as well as a hub to create a very basic topology by doing this I can prove that junus 3 is working properly I'll zoom in so that we can see that better and I'll connect the devices together I'll select this option to show labels this allows me to see how the devices are connected to one another I'm going to click Start to start up the devices and I'm going to click console connect to all devices to open up a console connection to the PCS The bolt-in Hub doesn't have a console but the PCS do I'll configure an IP address on this PC as follows and I'll configure an IP address on the second PC as follows or rather as follows now once that's done I should be able to Ping from one PC to the other and I can so pc1 can ping PC2 and PC2 can ping pc1 so that's an example of how to download and install genus 3 on a Windows PC the version of genus 3 demonstrated here is version 1.5.3 in this example we've set up a basic topology and I'll show you in separate videos how to create more complex topologies but what we've proven here is that the genus 3 guei has been installed and I can get a topology working on my PC I want thank you for watching if you've enjoyed this video please like it and please subscribe to my YouTube channel I wish you all the very best
