hello guys this is Tim solo from HS today I didn't make it to H's office because the door lock was apparently broken so this episode of the oversimplified SEO will be recorded on the streets of Singapore in previous episodes I showed you how to outrank your competition by building a lot of links but think about it your competitors don't just stand still they probably do a lot of Link building too so in this episode I'm going to show you how to retain your high positions in Google by keeping up with your competition and now I guess I need to find some place with Wi-Fi because I can't show you what I want without access to HR Tools in one of the previous episodes I showed you how easily we could rank a blog post on hre's blog at spot number three for the keyword skyscraper technique I also said that we could do a little bit of Link building and out rank the original article by Brian Dean with our own one if we wanted to and actually a lot of you guys said that this was something totally impossible and to be honest I kind of agree with you guys well uh it's not that it's impossible but this is something super hard to do and right now I'm going to explain what makes me think so what I'm going to do is take this blog post that ranks at spot number one and do some simple backlink analysis using HRA State Explorer right on the overview page you can see two nice graphs the one says new and lost referring domains and the other one says new and lost backlinks by looking at these two graphs it's not so hard to Guess that the blog post by Brian Dean just keeps getting new sites linked to it every single week and when you look at the second report the new end lost backlinks you can see that the actual number of new backlinks just keeps growing from week to week now let's check what we have for blog post published at hr's blog I guess you don't even need any comments from me to see that our blog post doesn't perform that well we had a little boost of backlinks when it was published but now almost no one links to us and that is actually the dirty secret to retaining your high position in Google you have to get new backlinks all the time so that your competition just won't be able to catch up with how many links you get every single week in this specific case all these links just come naturally because the blog post by Brian Dean about his skycraper technique is actually an an outstanding piece of content and people just just naturally want to link to it but that might not be your case and that's why you may need some kind of uh NeverEnding source of New Link opportunities right and actually there is such Source yes I'm talking about your competition all these people that rank right next to you for the keyword that you want to rank for you can take any UR that ranks for your keyword put it into href site Explorer go to the referring domains new report and get a list of all websites that we're linking to them in the last few days if you'll do this to five or 10 of your closest competitors I'm sure you'll get a ton of New Link ideas for your link building campaign at this point point I want to remind you that SEO is not a set and forget thing if you want to retain your high position in Google you have to keep building new links you have to keep an eye on what your competition is doing and always be one step ahead of them so that's it you guys I hope you enjoyed this episode of oversimplified SEO and if you have any questions or comments just leave them below this video and I'll be happy to continue the conversation right right
