Builds a personal brand and executive presence using strategic visibility and high-impact projects

Full Transcript

In this video, we will cover the concepts of how to identify key stakeholders and high visibility, high impact projects to help you get noticed across the company. By the end of this video, you'll know how to showcase your skills, demonstrate dedication, and capacity to handle significant responsibilities. Building your executive presence will require you to exceed expectations, be seen not just a part of a team, but as indispensable asset. And I'm going to share with you how. When I was younger, just like many other women, I was taught to be quiet, work hard, and hope that they will notice my hard work. Guess what? They never did. So, I had to abandon that approach and become more strategic with my own visibility. I took notes of my contributions. I was part of projects at work that had high visibility, not just emotional labor that gets no credit. Again, like most people, I was taking notes and organizing birthday parties, but instead, why don't you build a brand that resonates not only with your immediate team, but the leadership team? You can strive for excellence and do so in a way that is authentic and aligned with the values and priorities of your organization. That's called strategy. Leaders that exude executive presence are driven by their desire to create a meaningful change and inspire innovation, not force it. You can't force innovation. But without a strategy, your efforts to stand out can backfire and create a wrong perception. So here are some ideas to help you create an impact and visibility that cannot be denied. Secure a role in a high visibility project to work closely with leaders, solve complex challenges, and deliver results that get noticed across the company. I can imagine you saying, "Nice, Sona. How did I not think about that? Easier said than done." Well, I have a couple of ideas for you to position yourself as an obvious choice. So, start with paying attention to any upcoming projects that align with your skills. Network with people from other departments. I always say, don't view social events as a waste of time. This is where you get to create your visibility beyond your team. Pay attention to any upcoming projects that align with your skills and ask your manager about any upcoming projects. Raise your hand even when you're not being asked. Say yes to things to play even a small part in big projects to get noticed and showcase your expertise. Show enthusiasm and willingness to learn and be uncomfortable. CEOs love that. Share your previous experience and projects you were involved in with people, as many people as you can, so they recommend you when the time is right. Remember, you have to be committed to building your brand. Does your work speak volumes? Is your commitment to excellence, not mediocrity, visible to others? Do people perceive you as reliable and competent team player? What is your track record? Do you hear your numbers consistently and make them visible? A lot of you hit your numbers, but nobody knows about it. When you achieve your goals, you build trust with your team and the organization at large. You become known as someone who knows their capacity, who can hit their goals consistently. I want you to start thinking how can you align your individual goals with the company objectives. Set very clear goals and expectations for yourself and others. Once you set your goals, bring them down into quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals to help you with prioritization of daily task. I can't tell you how many leaders I know that are so busy but with the wrong things. I want you to also regularly review and adjust these goals cuz when you set them weekly, you can catch when you're behind much quicker and keep aligning them with evolving company strategies. That's what I also see. If you set your goals for 12 months in advance, the strategy might change. I want you to start prioritizing tasks and projects that you can influence in your role. You can use a priority matrix to identify which tasks will have the most significant impact on your goals. You can Google that. Be selective with what you say yes and no to to ensure alignment again with what's most valuable. In conclusion, how can you make your name synonymous with positive contributions and team work? What will you do to create more visibility? Well, why don't you start with not just watching this video, but pausing and adding some tasks to your calendar. Now, I have a question for you.
