LEGO Education Ends Partnership with FIRST — What This Means for FLL

LEGO Education officially announced that it will not renew its nearly 30-year partnership with FIRST marking the end of FIRST LEGO League as we currently know it after the 2026–2027 season. In this video, I break down both the LEGO Education and FIRST announcements, what led to this decision, and what it means for educators, robotics programs, and students around the world. We’re now seeing a clear split between LEGO Education’s new Computer Science & AI direction and FIRST’s plan to develop its own next-generation K–8 programs. I also share my personal thoughts as a coach, what this means for the future of STEM education, and how schools and teams should approach this transition without rushing into decisions. While this is the end of an era for FIRST LEGO League, it’s also the beginning of something new — potentially two new ecosystems for students to explore.
