Executive Presence Explained Simply
Key Takeaways
Explains what executive presence means and how it can be developed in a modern workplace
Full Transcript
In this video, I will share with you what I believe executive presence is and isn't. Why don't we start by breaking it into two parts, executive and presence. If you Google the word executive, you'll see a definition of having the power to put plans, actions, or laws into effect. Many of these definitions will include managerial, directorial or administrative words in it. Presence it described as a noteworthy quality of poise and effectiveness. Ability to enroll people into a vision that you have and your capacity to engage and inspire change. Being present to what's happening in the moment versus forcing your own agenda. The challenge with building an executive presence is finding that perfect balance between asserting your presence and collaborating effectively with others. Creating visibility of your results and not coming across as selfserving. It's not either or. It is a yes and. You have to ensure that your contributions are recognized, your expertise is showcased, and your professional brand resonates within and beyond your immediate team to expand your presence and at the same time not create a perception of selfserving motives that overshadow your team's contributions because nobody likes that. The most effective leaders I worked with had humility and really cared about their people which created the best results. The most ineffective leaders I worked with only cared about the results and left their people behind. I am inviting you on a journey to strategically build your visibility for the right reasons in the right way and with the right audience. In summary, the executive presence is not a title, but rather your ability to capture any audience and influence change. And now I have a question for you.
