Designer as Entrepreneur, Going Beyond Design: CSUN Portfolio review

[Music] first of all my name is Juliana I'm a graphic design major and I'm a marketing minor my first project is a tutoring app called time swap where students can exchange time with one another and they can also also purchase tutoring it's just the assignment to come up with an app it was but I went a little Beyond and went through this sort of case study format the general user Persona is a student who can either help other students or who needs help how do I know the quality of one tour versus another it will be user generated information so it will [Music] I wonder if you have presented that almost as if you're on Shark Tank what that would sound like here's the problem that I saw and I tried to find a solution and none existed then I came up with this concept and this is what it does and speaking from a more business point of view because the design is whatever right it's like it's really to support the concept I just now I'm taking a step back as if I were an advisor to you it's like I wonder if you just pitched it and told the whole story like I got frustrated I needed help and I couldn't get it and then this person wanted this and I couldn't figure it out and is that a fair price and were they any good well that's why I came up with time swap the logo the mark for me I would have loved to yesterday he needs work and I would love for it to communicate not just time but the swapping of time so maybe there's some kind of graphic device that really talks about the exchange of time I know that purple is your favorite color because I can tell all your identity and everything's purple everywhere and I would say that maybe you use purple but you use it more as an accent color make it a little bit more neutral this shade this Hue of purple tends to skew a little feminine little cosmetic and at first I had a hard time trying to figure out what the heck it was what's really great about this is your your concept goes Way Beyond Aesthetics it's about functioning it's a tool solves a problem and there's a business model in there and this brings in the whole other kinds of things like learning how to run a company to manage teams and I think that's like a wonderful Arc for you to go down all right I think that's it for me um thanks for sharing your work with us [Music] um I thought it was very exciting and helpful I got a lot of good insight and it was great to meet Chris in person I watched um channels so it was really great to have that one-on-one personal feedback and critique Juliana very sweet what I see in her is this kind of business mindset trying to solve a problem and using design as a means to solve that I think that's it [Music] thank you [Music] I'll follow someone like Chris anywhere somewhere and I'll go I'm willing to be the full but there's got to be a bigger fool following me yeah fun fact I did not go to my own school's portfolio review and I don't know what happened it's one of those things and I miss my high school graduation I barely make any of these things I don't know what's wrong with me here man all right bye guys
