[Music] we're here in Dublin because we're gonna be speaking at a conference and doing some workshops we thought would also be a good time to do a quick video for YouTube for you sexy people on YouTube so we're sitting outside our B&B the street is a little bit loud and everything but you'll be fine so then I think you actually need to you need to go so I can do this [ __ ] off this is Jonathan from a Jane Smart sitting here on a lovely Dublin Georgian house on it I'm sitting on a double in Georgian how it's not outside it and these are three tips for convincing your boss to run a design sprint [Music] so a really common question that comes up in our workshops is how do I convince my boss to run design sprints so like how do I actually convince my boss to let us run design sprints and so the internal product teams and it can be a bit tricky to convince your boss or your company or whoever within your company to take the time off to actually try it one of a design sprint which requires blocking one week of time generally my answer to that is you need to try it as an experiment you need to explain to your boss you need to explain to your manager and your team you just want to try it as an experiment that it's not something you necessarily want to integrate into the company completely it's just about let us try this thing out let's take a business problem not focusing on a design problem it's like a common business problem we have in this business give us a week give me for two people to run this sprint and are gonna be able to show you the results within five days or four days I think this is always a really great way to convince people just say look I just need four or five days we'll take this business problem that's been constantly bugging us and we're going to try to validate it to come up with a solution within five days usually at the end of that five days when the boss or the the CEO or whoever it is sees the results of the sprint and see the results of this like crazy amount of work done in a small amount of time they're usually convinced the other way of doing it another way to have a good backup is by going online and looking at some case studies of how design Sprint's worked well for companies like Facebook air B&B slack just going and finding these case studies just by googling them and showing them to your boss is a great way to already pre convince them that the design sprint is not just some sort of a trend that it's actually some sort of a a system for solving big problems very quickly and then it works the third and final way that I would recommend convincing your boss and this is what we do constantly and it's a really great way to do it is to use lightning decision jam it's a one hour exercise that you can do with an infinite amount of people and this exercise basically brings you through all of the principles of the design sprint shows you that problem-solving can be extremely fast and all this sort of stuff just do this with the team so do this with your stakeholders with your boss whatever just say hey at lunchtime next week I want to try this exercise I'm gonna take this big business problem that we have and we're going to try solve it on the spot in one hour this exercise is absolutely gets people excited about the prospect of doing a sprint we made video on how to run an exercise call lightning decision jam this is an exercise we created out of the design sprint process it's in the description oh it's probably some here somewhere stuck on the video here so check out that video and run that exercise with your boss and your team and they'll be convinced to run the sprints so while I was just talking there Britney behind the camera gave me a good piece of information what if your boss says look we don't have the time to stop everything and just go and do something like this I just don't have the time well I think once you do these other three things that I showed you so if you can even just do number three have them do this exercise for one hour they're usually convinced that stopping for a little bit just for one week could save them months down the line most projects kind of go on and on and on because there's so much misalignment and there's so much messiness within projects whereas the Sprint gets rid of all of that misalignment messiness and feedback loops so I would say if your boss says that they don't at the time say ok you don't need to have the time let's just try this one our exercise let's see how that goes and usually you've softened them up at that point yeah so if you liked this video please like it share it subscribe it's so great that so many people watching our YouTube channel now even if we look at the views it's like I'm just don't just ignore the views we're bigger than PewDiePie thanks so much guys love you [Music] Oh see the spiderweb went in my mouth [Music] you [Music]
