workshops on Instagram also in the youtube comment area they asked us an interesting question that I'd never really thought would be something that would confuse people that sounds about arrogant but I'm not trying to be arrogant and it's what is the difference between agile so agile sprints and design Sprint's agile Sprint's and design Sprint's really don't have anything to do with each other it's just the naming and the reason why design Sprint's are called design Sprint's is because the author wanted to make the design system sound a little bit more techie so that the engineers would take it seriously at Google instead of like telling you you know in my own words I'm just gonna read from Wikipedia and just that the starting kind of sentence of that agile software development this is the set of values and principles for software development under which requirements and solutions evolved through collaborative or self-organizing cross-functional teams it advocates adaptive planning it was boring I'm just not gonna read that so agile is all about is it's a system for software teams to plug into it's a system of constant iteration having cross-functional teams working together on constant releases it's not a one-off system that people just plug into it's a system that is usually in the product team as there it's almost like their operating system it's something that they use throughout the entire product and that set the rules for how the product is built essentially an agile sprint companies just define a period of time where certain features are going to be worked on and they'll say ok we have a one week or two weeks sprint and at the end of the Sprint this feature will be ready to either deploy or to kind of yeah whatever you know get feedback a design sprint is more of a one-off problem-solving tool which also runs in one or two week periods which is specifically for concepting and solving and even figuring out which problems to focus on so which problems to focus on then solving them and validating them with user testing and it's not a system you would necessarily use for building the actual product like agile would be it's a system for just you know getting the big idea and trying to figure out whether you should even build this product in the first place so agile is about how to build a product and the very specifics of doing it so they're really the operating system behind it and the design sprint is used as a specific tool for figuring out if you should build a product and what the product should be two very different things I hope that explains it Waterfall is the way that companies used to work before kind of implementing this I always say kind of waterfall is the system that yeah I keep saying at waterfall of the system that companies used to use before agile came along and essentially what waterfall was was just you know working on a product keep working on the keep working on I keep working on it the design team does their work passes it over the development team when they're finished whereas agile as bits and pieces are being done the whole time so the design team will work on one part of it and then pass it to the developers and it's it's all very interconnected and all very iterative it whereas waterfall you just kind of do everything in large chunks a lot of information is lost in the handoffs and it's just like now I have a question for you our YouTube followers because I realized that when I asked a question the last time I rarely do it but a lot of you responded and that was really great so I've been reading this book called radical candor is that in focus by Kim Scott and it's one of these books that I picked up I picked it up a few days ago and I wished I would have read it a long time ago it's an amazing book on management thank you very much and if you suck as a manager like I do it's a really great book to pick up now I have a question for you what book or video apart from our videos T or I don't know scroll or jigsaw have you consumed where you consumed it or you read it or you watched it you said I really wish but I have watched this or read this ten years ago this would have
