[Music] [Music] hey guys so the review you've all been waiting for the Transformer Prime it came in a box but I'm not going to do an unboxing because you know how to open a box but anyway I've had the device for about 3 weeks now and I have to say it looks and feels like a premium product Aces have really outdone themselves with the build quality here as you know you've probably seen a million videos in the ports located around the device so I'm not going to really bore you with that if you're watching this video you're most probably curious about this product you're probably wondering about the numerous issues that have been floating around the internet I've only got one of those issues and that is the GPS my GPS is completely dead and non-existent it's listed on my box my packaging but um it's just not there uh but apart from that everything else works just fine as you'll see in this video so obvious obiously as you guys probably know this device is quad core proof of that just there standby clock speed is about 200 MHz on One Core so you're probably wondering how does this stack up to a notebook I've actually um got a Windows 7 Intel atom gross notebook here the Samsung one and um they look kind of similar except uh obviously the Transformer Prime is very very slim compared to the uh other Netbook which is about a year and a half old um just some useful settings here other as are put in uh you can change your uh touchpad from gesture style to point style so it kind of uh gives you more flexibility so gesture style obviously is like pinch to zoom and all that kind of stuff but using the trackpad and um pointer style is just your normal Windows style pointer really I found that if you turn Super IPS mode on and turn the brightness down to zero or just above zero it actually saved quite a bit of battery connectivity let's talk about that so if you are worried about the prime only having one USB port fear no more because uh for about 10 or 15 bucks you can get an adapter that can expand it to as many as you like well I've got four here so um this is a 1 TB hard drive disc so now my Prime has over 1 terabyt of storage just like that and um so your seats preparing the data storage takes about 10 seconds and it's all there and now I'm plugging in a USB mouse um the only annoying thing about all of this is you cannot plug in two bits of storage at the same time say this uh hard drive and a USB stick uh for some reason only recognizes the first one you plug in so so maybe that would get fixer software update I really don't know at this point so um if you're getting this thing you'll probably uh want to know about productivity because you've got a keyboard dock which pretty much makes it a netbook right so um let's have a look so uh going through some um PDF slides here you can see it's pretty smooth and pinching to zoom and scrolling across and the basic things but a really cool thing that Asus has actually added in natively here is um some annotation support so you can actually annotate on your um PDF just like that and um it actually stays there once you save it so you can go back to the slide and it's still there and um zoom in and whatever you've done and it's um fairly good but um yeah it's just a really handy thing that ases have surprisingly chucked in there and uh another thing is actually um a kind of dictionary that you can um pull up whenever you hold on a specific ific word and um I was quite shocked that that was just randomly put in there with no real explanation but that was really cool looking at uh PowerPoint um if you had a PowerPoint slide and you wanted to Output it to HDMI I guess this would make sense but uh you can play your slides and have all the not all of them but like some random little transitions um really it's not uh I don't know it's just pretty corny but still it's cool to have just um doing flips and and also um you can actually um highlight and once again um yeah as you know in ice cream sandwich you can um get rid of uh different tasks by sliding them away um this is kind of a word program called um kingsoft office it's uh pretty interesting it's kind of just like a Microsoft office but um for Android and it's pretty good uh you can just uh send your stuff straight natively from the program okay this is a point to take in here this is a loading up word um all the loading times that you saw before were unedited although scrolling through was um sped up a little bit so you can just see how long it takes to load up word on an x86 processor which is the normal Windows native processor versus um the lighter operating system and arm processor on Android so that's quite an advantage really it takes less than a second on Android but there you took you saw it took like 15 so it's pretty um pretty interesting there if you're into your books um might want to check out Google Books this uh came stock with the prime it's actually a pretty cool um interface really well it just kind of looks cool to to look at really but yeah um I don't know how much I'd use it but I guess there a lot of textbooks and stuff you would too so Wi-Fi um this is a big concern for a lot of people so let's get straight into this one got my Galaxy Note here load up the same app uh Wi-Fi analyzer and um here you can see this is near the closest point to the router so they're both pretty much exactly the same but my Galaxy not has picked up two other random Wi-Fi spots so I walked around the house and went to the furthest point in the corner away from the router and you can see the Wi-Fi is dropping and there we have my Prime on the bottom and the note on the top and they're picking up different signals but more or less they're kind of the same so no problems there um switching to something called GPU acceleration probably one of the most important things for Android here um you often hear people complaining about Android being laggy and slow and having a tinest reputation and people saying well I like the iPhone cuz it's so smooth well here um that's going to change all that so here's um a scrolling page without GPU acceleration kind of choppy un responsive and typical Android isness well kind of anyway um and then you go back and you can actually um enable the GPU acceleration so Force Hardware GPU rendering on 2D Graphics so um going back to that menu now it's whis be smooth the smoothest will ever be pretty much so um you know it's just something really cool to have but um there's almost no downsides to it except for some apps that don't really like it and kind of screw up but they only found one and that was kingsoft office but the rest are all right uh moving on to um music this is an app called uh Uber player and um just a note here I really like the um fast forward back and pause Keys um on the note I mean sorry on the Transformer because any screen you're on any app you're in you can always change your track and everything so that's pretty cool uh moving on to video playback um instant resume it's very fast um right up to it remembers way you stop no matter what you do you can reboot whatever and it will stay the same so that's pretty cool um skipping is instant as you can see there no problems doing that um I'll do a full review on video stuff later but web browsing now um here we have the Transformer Prime versus an iPad 2 um that's a replacement keyboard by the way which is very good um AI type keyboard so might want to look into that um so yeah Prime on the top and iPad on the bottom uh load up the page end Gadget cuz that's kind of a picture heavy site and um we'll see how they stack up there but um just to note though actually um the prime has quite a few options for text selection so you can select all copy search share and find throughout the page but the iPad slowly just has copy so um yeah moving along scrolling through pages as you can see there's not much between them folks um just kind of negligible so both very smooth there but um for some reason the Transformer has a yellowish tint to the screen but I think um that can be fixed with software cuz that's just kind of a um a temperature setting my Galaxy Note has uh something like that where you can change how the screen looks whether you want it hot or cold so blueish tinge or yellowish tinge something cool um to note was that the Transformer had all those apps going nuts in the background where the iPad only had one well I guess they're pretty much all suspended anyway so hardly matters but um onto YouTube um the YouTube app looks a lot better I guess on the uh Transformer but the iPad is Bare Bones and pretty much simple um pretty much light up at the same time you know not much difference there but as for video playback quality I'd say the Transformer obviously would look better because of its wider aspect ratio and also it's larger resolution just that's naturally what would happen so the wrap up the conclusion what to think of all of this well I'd say if you're tossing up between getting a Transformer Prime and an iPad I'd say the Transformer is purely a better device but um you know all these quality control issues it makes it hard for me to recommend it to you and that's very very sad cuz this is by far the best tablet and device out there but you know um I'd say still go for it and just hopefully you get a good one um but I'm not done yet there will be another video released about um media gaming and um all that kind of good stuff so stay tuned guys and thanks for watching
