what is up everyone welcome back to my channel in today's video I want to teach you my tips and tricks on how you can become a lot more confident on camera specifically for YouTube so if you want to learn exactly how I went from being petrified to be on camera and super awkward - now effortlessly being able to communicate information clearly on YouTube then keep on watching now if you are a beginner on YouTube or you're just starting out your channel it is absolutely normal that your first few videos are horrible many of us before we start on the platform we automatically assume that we're gonna knock it out of the park and that the quality of our videos are going to be the exact same as the youtubers we see on the platform well truth be told many of us after we finished filming our first video we look at it and then we cannot believe our eyes on how horrible we actually are on camera that's why I really wanted to create this video because there has been some tips and tricks that I have personally tried myself that has really helped my confidence throughout my time here on the platform that being said if you are someone who already knows that you're terrible on camera and by the way I say terrible very subjectively the first tip that I have for you is to practice on lower commitment platforms and what I mean by this is that even for me after watching my first few videos here on YouTube and realizing that I definitely had a lot of room for improvement I immediately went onto Instagram story and I started really practicing speaking on camera in general a really great thing about leveraging Instagram stories as a way to practice is that it doesn't take that much of your time think about it when you're doing a YouTube video it is a whole production you're dedicating a lot of time and not only this the more you fumble the more frustrating it gets for you and the more exhausting that it gets for you and naturally as you fumble even more your confidence levels just decrease and decrease and decrease versus when you try to take a stab at it on Instagram story it's fast it takes no longer than a minute to actually put something together and post it and guess what if you don't like it it doesn't really hurt to delete it and take it down versus if you don't like something on YouTube you've put so much sweat equity into creating that video you might as well have it up and then you walk around with that shame knowing that your video wasn't great that's why Instagram story or any type of platform that doesn't take too much commitment it's a really great place to start in terms of getting more confident in terms of speaking on camera not only this you're going to be able to look back at that footage and see the areas where you could really improve in addition to this before we move on to the next tip I want to give you two challenges the first challenge is that whenever someone deems you on Instagram instead of you actually texting back what I want you to do is actually send a video message this is going to allow you to increase the times that you get to practice being on camera not only this this is the second challenge that I want you to do and it's something that I used to do a lot in business school and also when I was in corporate any time I had a really big presentation that I was super nervous about what I would do is I'd actually open up my macbook and film myself speaking as if it was the real deal after I was done filming myself I would actually look back at that footage and really critique myself objectively am i speaking too fast or too slow is my breathing okay or my mannerisms okay is it too distracting or am I not doing it enough these are things that over time you really pick up on especially if you have the power of objectivity really look at your footage with a third person point of view don't take things too personally because at the end of the day what you're trying to do is improve so I definitely want to take you up on those two challenges make sure you're damming people with a video message and take some time to create some videos for you to just personally critique third person now the second tip that I have for you is to look at people you admire on YouTube for me something that has really helped me refine my speaking style over time on camera and also has increased my confidence is really studying some of my favorite youtubers and these youtubers aren't my favorite just because of their content but also how they speak on camera a few of them are similar doozie project life mastery Jasmine star and guys from think media I really like the way that they present and over time throughout my journey on YouTube I'm constantly watching their videos to see how exactly they present and for many of you maybe I'm like that for you maybe some of you aren't watching my content just to get content but also to observe the way that I speak the way that I structure my videos so on and so forth so definitely make sure you are spending that time to do research on some of your favorite content creators not only this even before I started my journey on YouTube for school presentations or work presentations I always really loved to watch TED Talks I loved watching TED Talks because many of the people there are experienced public speakers and it's gonna really help you to understand how you should breathe how your mannerisms should be so on and so forth so I highly highly recommend to invest time actually studying and researching some of your favorite public speakers the third tip that I have for you is to make a list of the bad habits you have when speaking awareness is key when it comes to good public speaking and speaking in front of a camera something that I do is that I always make a list of the things that you guys have been saying or that I've noticed within watching my older videos for instance a lot of you guys say that I say the word actually a lot and even in my earlier days of public speaking something that I always do was use the word um these are things that over time I've collected and actually physically write out on a piece of paper or on my notepad of things that I need to be aware of if you do not write it down or actually put it somewhere in your mind and ingrain it in you so that you have a higher level of consciousness you're always going to make the same mistakes that's why throughout my videos even though sometimes I do slip up and I still use the word actually a lot over time I have really tried to stop myself from saying actually by being super conscious of it when I'm on camera now of course this takes a lot of practice and there are going to be times where you slip up even for me I slip up all the time but it is important to at least have awareness of the things that you want to improve on and either stopping those habits or replacing them entirely the fourth tip that I have for you is to put yourself in a good state before hopping on camera this means before you even start filming try to put yourself in a really good state so that already upon starting filming your video you're already super confident I know I know I know filming videos can be a very demoralizing process sometimes especially if you're continuously fumbling for me what I do to put myself in a good state is I make sure I put my makeup on my hair is done and I have a really great outfit this always puts me in a really great state to crush it in my videos despite any of the hurdles and the roadblocks not only this before every video that I film I make sure I have a cup of coffee to make sure I'm high energy and that I can really give my best on camera I know that this tip seems very basic and very simple but it really does wonders when you are already put in a good state before hopping on camera not only this if you'd like you can you know have a dance party in your room throw on your favorite music beforehand watch encouraging videos watch some of your favorite content creators go for a run do whatever you need to do to put yourself in a good state because I guarantee especially if you're starting out on YouTube filling videos is one of the most exhausting things so the last thing that you want to do is hop into a video already in a bad mood that always leads to disaster so I highly recommend that you at least grab yourself a cup of coffee and put yourself in a really high bide state before you start filming now the fifth tip that I have for you is something that I already mentioned in last times video where I talked all about how I organize the flow and structure and script of my video but the fifth tip is to really organize and struck what you're trying to say in your video beforehand I don't know about you but personally for me if I'm filming a video without a script or without some sort of bullet point structure of what I want to communicate in that video I have a tendency to ramble to go off course and therefore I get super frustrated with myself because I just keep fumbling when you walk into the video with at least a clear outline of what you want to say it's gonna be a lot easier for you to stay on track and not fumble like you usually would if you were to freestyle that video now if you want to learn more about my tips and tactics on how to be consistent on YouTube including how you can organize your scripting definitely check out this video right here not only this if you want more details on how to exactly script your videos make sure you watch the video that I posted last time I'll put it right here as well now every time I mentioned the word scripting I always get these questions Vanessa do you memorize the entire script use the teleprompter what do you use how do you actually script your video and remember everything so that you can deliver it my answer is is that it's not as hard as you think for me personally this is how I do it my script or my bullet points or my outline is always going to be on my phone and before I even hit record on the video I'm referencing my phone and I tried to memorize maybe the first three to four lines that's back then when I was scripting and then I was put my phone down on my lap and then I would hit record then I would deliver those three to four lines and after I'm done I would hit stop I do not try to memorize my entire script nor do I leave my camera running the entire time of my filming and each time that I hit stop I'm reviewing that clip that I just did if I'm not happy with it then I'll refilm those two to three lines again at the end of the time that I've done my video when I'm in the editing process I don't have just one crazy long clip that I'm editing I have maybe 10 to 20 clips that I have that all I need to do is string together but that's not to say that you can't make mistakes within those mini clips which brings me to my next tip and that is know that you can always edit your mistakes out for me one of the rookie mistakes that I used to make is that whenever I would mess up just once I would get up out of my seat and then refilm the entire clip that actually killed a lot of my time and my energy that's why now what I do is I make sure I focus on breathing if I make a mistake I just pick myself back up where I left off and I continue filming now to give you some context I'm going to share a clip directly from this video so you can see exactly how I do it to give you some backstory by the time that I finish to give you some backstory by the time that my video hits the editing process I usually have 10 to 20 clips of to give you some backstory now as you saw from that clip I made a couple of mistakes but instead of finishing the recording all I did was I kept going because what experience has told me through editing my videos is I'm always going to be able to edit those videos out you're gonna waste a lot of time if you try to be a perfectionist and if you try to film refilm film refilm over small little mistakes know that editing is one of the best things that could possibly happen to a youtuber and you can always take those parts out your audience will never see those mistakes that you made only you and this all leads me to one of the most important pieces of advice is that I can give you and that is patience know that it took me a lot of videos to get to this point today where I can actually make a mistake and quickly pick myself back up again back then when I was first starting out I was just like you fumbling at each step crying over the videos and to this day it still happens to me and also refilling and filming and being the most inefficient person ever but just know in order to get to this point where I'm at today I had to do the video I had to put that video up I had to get feedback in order for you to master something you need to get to the point where you have filmed enough videos to gain that confidence it takes practice and it takes action you can sit in your room all day thinking about the videos that you want to create but until you actually do them get the feedback and get better at it you're never going to get better you're never going to get confident on camera so my biggest advice to you is not only to be patient but to just start take imperfect action because without it you're not going to get to the level where I'm at or where the level that many of your favorite content creators are at either all of us put in the sweat equity to do the videos even though our videos make us cringe - so guys you really need to make sure that you have that patience to keep moving forward now if you're watching this video and you want to take YouTube out of a hobby and into something that actually generates you income aka creating a real business while having a youtube channel then make sure you hit the notification bell because in my next video I'm gonna walk you through the different types of business models that exists that you can do while having your YouTube channel just like me so if you're interested then make sure you hit that notification about not only this if you want to learn more about business social media and life in general make sure you also check out these two videos here as always guys I hope you guys have a great day a great week and a great life and I'll see you in the next one bye guys
