hello my friends it's time for creative project in affinity photo today I'm going to attempt to recreate a cover from Netflix from the series daybreak my name is Olivia I'm a professional designer and I want to thank all my patrons to support me and make these videos possible that is super important let's get started so you can see here we have the cover let's put that on the side and I downloaded two portrait pictures this guy and then we have this guy and to line up two faces there's a very easy trick to do that so adjust the first face so it is in the position where you want to have it and then take the second face and to reduce the opacity until you are at a point like for example 50% we can see both faces at the same time resize them move it around until you are happy I already prepared that by the way okay so the first thing we want to create is that paper cut or paper tear that we have here so I'm going over to my stocked app and I set it to pixabay if you don't see the stop stock tap by the way go to view and then studio and then make a check mark next to stock very easy okay let's go in here write a paper rip paper rip good there we have a couple of paper rips I want to take this one and let's see I want to take this side so I'm going to rotate it 90 degrees you can hold your Shift key while you rotate so it goes in 15 degree iterations which makes it a little bit easier to do that so that's a good position in the middle of the face next thing I will do is I will right click onto the layer right click and then select rasterize and trim this will not only rasterize it but also cut it to the size of our canvas so book like this you can see now it's ending at the side that sides of the canvas next thing we are going to do is to use our freehand lasso tool over here and click and drag around the left side because we don't need that anymore so like this we have created a selection you can press Delete on your keyboard and this will just delete that part then ctrl D on your keyboard like this and now we only have this part with the paper cut good so how do we get our guy onto the paper cut well I'm gonna use a very nifty trick for that and that is hold your ctrl key and then click on the layer with the paper cut and this as you can see is creating a selection with that selection created click onto mask layer and this will create a mask from your selection so you can now press ctrl D to deselect and I will take my mask and pull it down onto the picture with the guy and then I can take the paper and drag it so it's sitting between the guy in the background and the guy in the foreground ok good so now we have our mask but still we don't see the paper tear so what we gonna do what I want to do is I select the mask layer and then click over on the left side on my move tool and this will allow me to move the mask around but also to resize it if I only move it you can see that the seams line up exactly it doesn't look very realistic so what I'm going to do is to just make my mask a little bit bigger and then move it in here and voila this looks a lot more like an actual paper tear where parts of the picture are not there anymore you see the paper itself but it doesn't look like paper because it's it doesn't look like the pictures printed on the paper so for this we're gonna use a little trick we're gonna create a gradient map so click on the picture of our right guy and click down here adjustments and great and map like this looks a little bit crazy also it's not sitting right so I want to pull the mask down here sorry the adjustment down here onto our guy so it's just sitting here click on the middle point and you can delete that and then you can click on the left side and I want to set this to a bright blue and then on the right side I want to set this to an orange like this still looks pretty crazy I know we're gonna set this to soft light now like this and I will reduce the effect like that okay ah let's think a little bit about what we just created play around with the different modes here but I think softly is actually the way to go multiplies to dark this doesn't look good yeah we will go with we will go with this we will go with soft light I want to go in here real quick try out some other colors let's set it to red actually I like that a little bit more that's pretty ok good so the next thing I want to do is actually to create a rectangle over here I will pull it over all of my area and I will set this to also soft light like that and I want to give this a bright orange or yellow color there's a little bit kind of a sandy look to that like that as you can see and I actually want to reduce the opacity mmm like here that is I think is okay good all right you can see that the effect is sticking out for some reason although we do have the mask here I will just do the simple thing here right click and duplicate my mask and then pull it on to also my rectangle so now it's again limited just to that area okay so we are making good progress the next thing I want to do is this aftern effect here for a halftone effect I need to have a picture in there that can be the source of the halftone so what I'm gonna do here I probably should have done that at the start is I will duplicate the guy on the right so this means now we have the picture with a guy on the right with all this adjustment we have done and we have the same thing again which means we have to delete the stuff inside maybe keep the mask that could be useful and then I want to apply a live effect here for halftone like that as you can see already looks pretty cool there's a little bit of a problem here we have in affinity photo and that is we can do the halftone effect but we can't push the points apart because there's no settings for that so we kind of stuck with these dense white points there isn't really a way to make it like this but it's just getting closed it's not the exact same thing so that's I think that's okay we're still doing good job okay let's put this in here and then set the yeah let's set the screen mode sorry the blend mode of the layer to screen sorry and it is seen assuming again maybe let's play around with the cell size here like that hmm we can't make the dots smaller that's also kind of a limitation here mmm that's not good that's also not good that's also not good okay I will stick with this oh let's see round no that doesn't change anything good I will keep it like that what we're going to do is we have preserved the mask that is pretty good for us so what I want to do is reduce it in the area whereas I don't need it because you can see here it's just on the upper part and the lower part so we're gonna take our brush and we set it to a pretty big size hmm let's see how big is that and it looks good okay so I want to set this to black because I want to remove the effect from that area and I will just click and then brush over from left to right and look like that so to draw this in maybe a second time yeah that's pretty okay that's pretty good good maybe I want to reduce this effect a little bit here so click on that that's a little bit less visible that's good okay that's good good the next thing we want to do is you see here we have this kind of effect here which is interesting because when you look at the picture you can see that they blended this with a Grunch map like it's just a photo but when you look exactly at it this probably is a frozen lake surface with these kind of air bubbles and scratches on it I'm not gonna search for that I'm gonna do something a little bit different because I think it would take too much time to find exactly the same thing so I will just give enter here again on pix pay in the stock tab grunge Bob like that and there we have stone which is good so let's bring this in here and rotate it like this onto our picture again I'm going to actually can keep this outside I think I will again go down here and duplicate my my mask and take this and push it up onto our stone like that good so now that I have done that what we want to do is to set it to screen like this still not looking good so we are clicking here on the cogwheel on the top left like that and then in the blend ranges we are going to go with the source Ranger's source layer ranges sorry and push this button down and move it to the right side until we find a setting this is actually covering the picture move it over here so this looks like a paper tear I want to push in the upper like handle a little bit to the writers may be a little bit too much hardcore um paper destruction here but that I think I'm happy with that that looks like old paper currently and destroyed okay cool so now we have done that the next thing we have to do I think we are almost done actually the graffiti let's create the graffiti next you can see it sits on top of all of the other effects so I will just create another pixel layer and then here in brushes you can see you have a selection of different brushes I'm going to use this spray paint brush and click on the uppermost brush and select of course my brush tool first forgot about that good I want to make it a little bit smaller even smaller let's see that's good okay let's first use a dark red and by the way keep in mind I'm drawing here with my mouse so this is gonna look not that great to be honest let's see I can do the straight lines by clicking and then shift holding my shift key and click again so this vachetta as a straight line and then try to do it like that okay good and go down here ah click and try to oh my god yeah it's not it's not amazing art that you're seeing created here but well it's good enough let's let's just make the wheels and then I will fill it with a bigger brush oh my god that is way too bad mmm okay like that and then we go up here make some wheels here this is not the same like crazy how guys a punk style that you find the original cover but as I'm just drawing with my mouse I would say yeah that's it's okay still so let's make a cross here and then I will make my brush a little bit bigger so we can fill in the wheels and don't waste too much time on that okay good let's go over here my brush is still a bit small but anyways almost done here good so I have this on a separate layer and this means I can of course change the position like this and put it where needed where is he looking through like here okay that's good okay so I want to make another layer and I'm being honest I'm just going to paint one of those bombs because it would take too much time to paint all three and I will just duplicate that you have sometimes to use some time-saving tricks let's again make whoops that's not good make a straight line so it looks at least a little bit good yep okay good then go down here and like that and then we go over here and this one I can actually again use my shift key holding my shift key and clicking and okay this was not even straight oh my god one second I'm almost done please stay tuned okay let's resize my brush is this this is too big make it a bit smaller just to fill the lower part here of the bump okay good I hope you're still watching and I haven't turned off just because this takes a little bit longer so there we go and I hold my what is it actually my control key control key hold your control key and then click and drag and this will duplicate the layer you are moving okay there we go so is there something else we should do here I feel like this is a little bit brighter so let's go in here and create a curve adjustment like that and this is the wrong side okay let's see make this a little bit brighter and push this up a little bit so this starts to look good okay my cat is my cat is asking me for some food so we should wrap this up I think you also want to finish and yeah just I think I think that's it we have this kind of greenish background here we could paint that in real quick maybe let's do that real quick as the last step so I will just I will just take a brush and paint that in to be honest let's see take let's pick the color from here should we let's go with overlay reduce the effect a little bit yeah let me know if you want to see more of these videos where I try to recreate covers found on Netflix okay thank you very much for watching see you in the next episode and have a good day bye you
