How to copy chart formatting and duplicate charts in Google Sheets

in this video i'm going to show you how to copy the chart formatting or the chart style in google sheets from one chart to another chart now unlike the paint format option which will automatically transfer the formatting from one cell to another what you have to do to transfer the formatting of a chart from one chart to another is to simply copy and paste or to duplicate a chart and then to change anything extra on the duplicated chart that you might need to such as colors or the data range and so i'll show you a simple example of this right now here you can see this stacked column chart which is called product sales 1 and this chart is connected to the product sales 1 data here on the left in the range a1 through d7 that's rows 1 through 7. and what we want to do is make another chart with the same formatting and then we want to connect it to the product sales 2 data in rows 9 through 15. now rather than completely building a brand new chart from scratch what we're going to do is simply duplicate our existing chart and then change the data range and all of the existing formatting will be present in the new chart so to do this i'm going to click once on the chart that i want to copy and paste that i want to duplicate and when you click once you'll see an outline around the chart to indicate that it's selected now hold ctrl on the keyboard and press c to copy the chart and then click in the location where you want to paste your chart and then hold ctrl on the keyboard and press v to paste the chart and i'm going to scroll to the right here a little bit and as you can see i have an exact duplicate of my original chart and as you would expect with an exact duplicate all of the original styling or formatting is still present and so this makes it much faster for me to create new charts with the same formatting because if there's anything that i need to change it will be very minimal in comparison to completely reformatting the chart so again i want to connect my new chart to a different set of data and so i'm going to scroll to the left again just to see the range that i want to connect to the chart which is the range a9 through d15 so i'm going to double click on the new chart to open up the chart editor and then i'm going to click on the setup tab and then under the data range field i'm going to change it from a1 colon d7 to a9 colon d15 then i'm going to press enter and as you can see the columns have changed a little bit because now i'm connected to the product sales 2 data which is in the same format that has slightly different values now there's one more thing that i need to do in this case which is to change the title of the chart so i'm going to click on the title and then change it to product sales 2. so copying and pasting a chart is the easiest way to copy the formatting from one chart to another now it's good to note that if you want google sheets also provides an option in the chart menu to copy the chart and so if you want you can do this instead of holding ctrl and c on the keyboard but you're still going to have to press ctrl and v on the keyboard to paste the chart so if you want to use the copy chart option simply click on the chart once click the three dots at the top and then click copy chart so i hope you liked this video if you did please like and subscribe and if you want to read the article version of this video i've linked the article below
