hey what's going on guys rud lenel here I'm actually root from no shell.com if you have not heard of me uh no shell.com is actually a cool little place it's my domain uh there I post a lot of code a lot of programming projects and stuff that I do in my own free time for a little a little personal hobby that uh my little passion I like to call it but in this tutorial what I'm doing here this video I'm going to be showing you guys how to install python in Linux um I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 right now you might be running a different distribution but the installation is usually rather the same and it just depends on your package manager but I'm going to get started with unity and get open up a terminal I'm running a bash in My Little Gnome terminal here and now it might interest you to know that python is almost always installed by default on most Linux distributions in fact I don't think I've ever seen a Linux distribution where it's not installed by default obviously if it's like an older distribution you might have an older version of python but I'm sure you can understand how that goes and obviously you can update the program whenever you need to so you invoke it at the Shell at the command line by just typing in Python and there you go uh right now I'm running 2.7.2 which is uh my personal favorite I'm really loving it some people might prefer the version three and above that sort of thing uh maybe not it it all depends on Style and what they like to do but the code that you write will break depending on which version of python you're using it on and I'll go into that more in detail later but first let's get to installing now for this series in this tutorial I'm I'm going to be using uh idle or the integrated development learning environment I use that as an IDE to write my python code and I kind of recommend it to you guys too just because it's a wonderful program it has a little bit of Auto completion it has beautiful syntax highlighting highlighting right off the bat and uh you'll see what I mean once we get started but if you're running Ubuntu or any sort of Debian distribution you're going to want to type in for a command pseudo appg get install uh idle uh you're going to be running it as a as root as your super user on the system uh if you aren't roote already if you're just regular user like I am right now I'm John I'm loged in as John anyway you can want to use pseudo as a preceding command to be able to get things done so type in your password just s a little bit of security and it'll start looking for it and boom there is Idol now if you're running on like Fedora or any Red Hat distributions or uh let's say sentos or that sort of thing you might be using yum as your package manager or maybe you're running a task cell I don't know it all depends on what you prefer to use but looks like eel is done installing and downloading that sort of thing uh let's fire it up you can run it from the command line right here idle type that in and hit enter and boom here's your little python shell you can uh do this in unity obviously you can do almost anything in unity just by typing in idle and there it is you get that exact same result exact same result woo so now that you've got python running let's make sure things are working okay let's type a simple a simple function print hello world get things started with a bang hello world awesome so uh thank you guys for watching I am excited to see you in some more tutorials hoping to see you already as adventurous as I am wanting to learn more and more about these computer languages so I'll see you again
