hey there i'm brad the co-founder and cto of roboflow a startup that builds tools that help developers give their software the sense of sight we enable everyone from giant companies to hackers and hobbyists to use computer vision without having to become machine learning experts for example we help cardinal health with a pill counting application that enables pharmacists to be much more effective through remote telehealth but we also build the tooling that lets individual developers build cool things like the world's most technologically advanced cat toy which identifies a cat and then shoots a laser around the kitchen floor in an intelligent manner if you want to check out some of these other fun projects that users have built um go to universe.roboflow.com this is our public site where users can share their data sets and models with others there's everything from a playing card application to uh airplane detection to a chocolate identified identifier and hundreds more as an example of one of those i'll pull up on my webcam a hand detection model so somebody trained this to detect hands and you can imagine doing using this to do like a rock paper scissors game or a paper football game or something like that and if you want to see how you would use something like that to actually build a project over the course of a hackathon check out my blog post about building a blackjack app with that playing card data set um over the course of about an hour and a half i was able to build something from scratch with that data set that a couple years ago uh wouldn't even have been possible um computer vision is going to transform essentially every industry we think it's as important for the world as the pc or the internet or the smartphone were it's one of those kind of core foundational technologies that's going to spider web its way into how we interact with computers and how computers interact with the world and essentially how every business operates my co-founder had a great discussion with our uh lead investor david sachs uh on the call-in app which is essentially a podcast about the future of computer vision and actually dove into that use case with cardinal health and pill counting that i touched on earlier um one reason that it's an amazing time to join us at roboflow is that you would be helping not only build technology that's going to transform all of these industries and the way that computers interact with the world but also it's an opportunity to help us build the company and be a part of not just the product development but the development of our culture and and company um we are dedicated to being uh the world's uh best remote first experience and i wrote a little bit about our remote first culture on a blog post called remote not distant uh where we talk about some of the unique things that we do including um regular on-sites like i am attending currently for the product team um but also we have full company on-sites that that happen on a regular basis and we do things like um sponsoring grassroots hubs so if there's multiple people in a single city we will actually uh sponsor a satellite office to spring up from them so that we can get the best the benefits both of being able to hire talent everywhere across the country and also being able to develop relationships with your co-workers just up to how each individual wants to dive in the other interesting thing about joining the company at this stage is that you would have a huge impact on shaping the product trajectory there's a lot of autonomy we call this choosing your own loss function and because we're a developer tool engineers specifically have a really good sense of not only how to build the things that we need to build but what those things even are and helping scope out what the product should look like and what what initiatives we're going to tackle and this is something that we do collaboratively amongst the product team we're actually currently doing quarterly planning uh where we break down the product into its core components uh and everybody kind of throws ideas on the board of uh ways that they think that we can improve our our core metrics and objectives and then we together uh rank those by how hard they would be to do and how much impact we think they'd have and then each team uh very uh autonomously decides what they'll be working on and what they think the most important things are um and this all bubbles up from the bottom so you'd have a huge huge impact and a lot of freedom and leeway to be autonomous which all of our engineers really really value um i'd love to talk to you more about our engineering culture and our company and the opportunities around computer vision would please reach out we have several open engineering roles and we'll be rapidly expanding our team looking forward to talking to you
