hey everyone in today's app of the day video i want to show you exactly how to use google pay step by step and i'm going to show you here on my android here but there are some things that are a bit different on the iphone so i'll point those out too as we go and google pay completely redesigned their apps for mobile devices back in 2020 so i wanted to update this video to show you exactly what the new app looks like and how to use it and google pay could do three things really really well you could use it to link a bank account or a debit or credit card and then use the google pay app to pay for things physically in a store then you could also pay for things online using google pay and what i really like about it is the ability to pay and request money from your friends and family completely for free without a fee if you set it up correctly so i'm going to show you all those and there's couple extra things that are kind of powerful too with how you track your spending so i'll show you that at the end so first things first go ahead and download google pay it usually comes on android but if you don't have it it's just in the google play store here it's also in the app store on the iphone go ahead and open it up or download it here and here google pay needs to connect to one of your gmail accounts or google account so if you don't have one create one but your phone will probably recognize one if you use email for example so go ahead and assign it to that press continue and it needs to connect to a valid phone number here because that is how you could find people and people could find you is connected to a phone number so you'll need to add a phone number here and here just go through the setup process you could also earn cash back here with the app so i'm going to show you that at some point in the video too i'm going to say yes earn rewards and this is basically the home page of google pay the pay icon looks like a home icon that's your home page and then you have this page that's the explore page that i'll explain to you and then you have insights too that i'm going to explain to you at the end here but let's start first the first thing you typically want to do is you need to add a payment method so then money could come into google pay if you want to fund google pay or just directly link a debit or credit card now to do that all you have to do is go to the home page here and press this little credit card icon and what i want you to do on this page is add a credit or debit card or link a bank account and you could also link a paypal account too so it does work with paypal which is very similar to what this app could do but you could use your paypal funds for this too and you could enable contactless payments now if you enable contactless you could use those sensor-based machines that are at stores where you could just put your phone against it and you use google pay to pay it iphone doesn't have that option though so this is an android only option so if you wanted to do that just go ahead and tap on that so if you enable that if you tap on one of those and confirm it you could basically pay using this app like this so you would add a payment method here add that card and when you go to the store you just pull it up next to one of their machines here and it will take your transaction using google pay here so open the app add this if you want to have that contact less payment you make sure you go through the setup process of a debit or credit card and once you go through all the verification it needs to send you a code you'll come to this page here you could press got it but all you have to do is when you see that icon at the register at a store physically at a store you'll just slide your phone up like this using that method the next thing you could do with it is you could actually pay for things on different websites now they have to accept google pay so you'll just see a little box underneath a checkout page of a website it says use google pay and you'll just go through the setup process you'll log in with your google account that's pretty straightforward but it's not in the app it happens inside of different apps or different websites now the next thing i like about this app is you could actually pay people or request money from people all you have to do is you could either invite a friend here that doesn't have that app you usually get a reward for that as well so you could use any contact that you have on your phone to invite people looks like right now you both get five dollars if you invite a friend and then once you have friends on here in order to pay you just go to the pay option pay a friend press that now it's going to pull up bunch of people here that may be in your contact but you could always search for people using their name their phone number or their email and they will show up over here i'm gonna choose someone now if they don't have google pay they should get google pay or it's gonna send them a notification to get google pay so if you pay them and they never receive it it will send you the money back i believe after 14 days here so let's say you wanted to send an amount you would send an amount you would add a note and then you would go to the next page here and then right here i didn't have any money in my balance okay so it's going to ask me what i need to do in order to pay so i'm going to say show payment options and i need to add a debit card here if you didn't add it previously so debit card is required you can't send this with a credit card because credit cards usually have a fee so i have a credit card attached but i need to add a debit card in order to pay people or make contact less payments here all you have to do is press add debit card it will take you to the next page where you could add a debit card just by bringing the card in front and then entering the details here automatically or manually and once you add people and they show up over here what you could do is you could click on one of their names here and you could actually pay on this page or you could request money on this page and you could send them a message so if i wanted to request money instead of pay i will bring up this page request five dollars add a note take it to the next page here press the check mark and then press request so this is how you request money exactly the same way that you would pay someone and that's why there's a group option here too sometimes you want to split a bill between a group so you would find a group using this method as well those are the three main things but let me show you a couple of really useful things that most people don't know about this app including cash backs so far we've only been on the pay icon but this icon over here the explore icon basically lets you see things that are paying you cash back rewards so look at this if you use this at walgreen use google pay at walgreens you may get a big cash back here groupon red box so you could kind of go through and see which one have it and you would basically activate the code here and then you could redeem that code online so you tap that it will create a code for you you will copy this code and use it at checkout on this app on this other app that you're buying something from so make sure you activate it here this is super useful because the cashbacks are very high usually when they have different promotions running on this explore page so that's one of the main reasons i like to use this app to get those cashbacks here and then the insights tab is really cool because as long as you connect the bank accounts you could actually get a big picture overview of what you have in the bank how much you've spent in the last month and it's going to give you a clear breakdown on what's going on over here and your balance shows up over here too and if you click this cart icon it does organize things into categories for you so you could get a very clear understanding of where your money went so this is kind of an upgrade to what your bank shows you it's just more organized and easy to understand and i'll show you this thing on the home page here so far everything by the way is exactly the same on the iphone except for the contactless payment that i showed you where you put up your phone against the device you need an android for that but click this and here is a quick way to look at your google balance you could also share that code i showed you and you could access your settings here too and you could also get your qr code if you click on your profile picture you could see your qr code here and this code is just a simpler way to basically connect with someone so if they're nearby you could go ahead and scan their code they'll pull it up you scan it and you'll recognize them and that's your crash course on using google pay i do have different videos on apple pay on cash app on paypal so i'll put a link to all those so you could really learn all your options that are available to you i hope you found this useful please give it a thumbs up and i'll see you on the next app video

Original Description

Google pay can be used to make purchases in stores or online and you can use it to send and receive money. Google pay completely redesigned its mobile app in 2020. To sign up, download the Google Pay app on iPhone or Android. Then use a Google account and phone number to create an account. In order to use Google Pay to pay for things in stores, you need an Android device. The app has three sections. Explore, pay and insights. You can start on the payment page which shows a home icon. The first thing to do is to add a bank account. You can add a debit or credit card as well. This can be used as a payment method or just to track spending. If you add money to the Google Pay app, you can use that balance to pay people or pay for things instead of pulling the money from your bank account. Once you have an account linked to Google pay, you can pay people. Search for a person using their username or phone number. And you can pay or request money from them. Under insights, you’ll see where your money is being spent based on the accounts you linked. And the explore page allows you to find ways to save by using reward programs that pay you back. Thank you for watching this video!
