hey guys welcome everyone this is rol and buffer and about five minutes so stay tuned please e e e okay great well we're GNA get started guys hello everyone I hope you're all doing well I'm rodolph from buffer and I'm speaking to you live today from Paris France since most members of the team at buffer are distributed I'm lucky enough to be in beautiful France today and I'm super excited to welcome you in our first self-hosted webinar so since it is our first webinar I'll definitely will be making some mistakes here and there and I might miss out on a few things if you spot anything please just ask us in the comments below we also have Mary with us today she's from our buffer happiness team and she will be jumping on to address question you have as well so for today we're going to be spinning about 40 minutes together and before we get started I would like to run two quick things by you all so first you can ask any question about the webinar about buffer in general or even about me personally in the comments below or on Google+ and I'm make sure to get back to you each and every one of you it might take me a little while but not to worry remember we have the awesome Mary helping us today and before I forget this webinar is being recorded so I'll be emailing you with all the details after this presentation in a recap email now to briefly go over the fluff today I thought it might work best to show you eight tips in three different sections we'll start with scheduling like a pro then we'll move on to chat about analytics and finally we'll have a look at some of the most secret buffer features so when we brainstorm this webinar we thought about giving you the most hands-on experience we can so we decided to do it all through the browser as a result I won't have any slides today I hope it works for you all and without further Ado we are going to get started for this webinar thanks again for joining us this is buffer first self-hosted webinar so let's get started um I want to show your first how easy it is to schedule within buffer so first if you're using a mobile device I really recommend you take a look at our new app um we've recently redesigned our IOS app and it's just a great tool to be able to schedule on the go and um send updates as well okay so without further Ado I'll spend most time today showing you about the browser extension here comes the first thing about scheduling content so let's say I'm on the internet I'm building a Blog and I find a very interesting article that I would like to share with my fer base the most simple way to share within buffer is to go ahead and click the buffer extension and clicking the buffer extension it lets you open a little conversation box and that conversation box is the title so a few thing you can see here I went to the top right corner of my screen and just CLI that extension uh now an conversation box opened up first you can see a variety of social profile accounts that I have linked up to my own account here you have my Twitter my LinkedIn and if I want to I can just click on burer Facebook account to tole it on and click once more to deselect it so what happened here a few things first we've been grabbing the title of the blog article straight from the page automatically it's replicated here and then we have a small analytics link that will be useful for later on we'll cover analytics later in the webinar another thing you can see is that buffer automatically detected there are seven different images on this article so if you choose to different thumbnail with the image from the author instance or any other image you might think is relevant for your audience you can customize what's showing up and then lastly you have this little title and a link to the blog so this is the first tip I have for you when you want to share on social accounts one very neat thing you have within buffer is you can use aut to complete and type Twitter handle if you like so for instance my name is rodolph dutel and if I start typing my Twitter username it shows down here I can just click on it it's completed and what's going to happen next is when I post to Twitter my Twitter handle is going to show and when I post to another Network that isn't Twitter um my LinkedIn profile for instance my full name is going to show so it' be rodolph toel in full so that's a basic part about scheduling now I'd like you to consider the very same article that I have open here as well and I'd like to show you a second tip which is a bit more advanced scheduling so when you read an article sometime you just come across a fact that is very very interesting and that you decide to share with your follower base let's consider this article for instance study show that 70% of consumers say they look at product reviews before making a purchase well that sounds quite interesting so I'm going to go ahead and highlight this I'm going to highlight this like this and then I'm going to click on the browser exension what happens now is the windows opening and what I see is as a quotation I can share an article by selecting the part of it on the content base that is most relevant or more interesting sometime we talk about AB testing as well or testing headlines it's very interesting to see how well your um your publication of social network is going to go and for a similar article you can try different headlines another thing you can do here is once you've selected text you can go ahead and if you find a picture that is really relevant to the article you can go right click on a picture and go buffer this image buffering this image is also very very interesting because this is going to show as a full siiz picture in your social networks um at berer on a Blog and as a company we've done some research on how to share the best way possible and we find that increasingly images are getting more and more real estate on Twitter on Facebook on Google+ so with this sort of sharing you will have a fullsize image directly out there in your stream when you're happy with your um selection what you can do is either add to queue and that will be buff we'll look at that in a minute you can say share next which means the next item that will be scheduled will be this one you can share now and that sends it out to the word directly or you can pick a custom time custom time is very interesting consider a webinar like today or a product launch for instance it's very interesting to get to customize a set date based on your time zone so a question we often get is how do I make sure I am sharing a social networks at the right time how do I make sure that I'm actually reaching my audience well as far as Twitter is concerned we have a very nice integration with a partner we have that is called follower won the address is follow.com and I'll show you quickly how it looks like essentially all you need to do is loging with your Twitter credentials at follower.com and what they will do for you is to analyze your following base and understand when your network is the most active here you can see that they've been splitting the day in 24 hours and for my following Bas I can see that there is a spike about 5:00 p.m European time so what follow helped me to do is to figure out what is the best time of day for me to share and then they have a one button integration which is awesome to buffer so all I have to do is pick the frequency such as three times a day for instance and then I can go and click schedule ad buffer this will automatically update my Twitter sharing profile if you're interested about follow wron and buffer Mary our awesome happiness hero she's designed a video that is also on the YouTube channel you're watching right now it's 48 second long and it explains you all about it I really recommend you check it out so that's the third tip and remember knowing at what time the tweets go out also helps you repeat ret tweet if you want to do that um because sometime your follower base might not be awake for instance so you might reach multiple people or hit multiple time zone by doing this so let's come back to our first example I'm going to show you how it looks like within buffer when I click for instance share next so I'm back to the first update I had for you guys and now I'm going to Click Share next and we're going to go together in my buffer dashboard that is all on the internet and we're going to see how it looks like so I click share next now that goes to my Twitter that goes to my LinkedIn account is being added and now all I have to do is go to my berer interface you will see that the layout of buffer that I will detail in a minute is orange here because I'm on the buffer for business version and this is where my update is showing up now so you see with buffer dis update together and I'm showing up here since this is LinkedIn as I explained before it's going to show my full name even if I enter my Twitter hander previously which is very nice so this is it for my third tip about um scheduling social media updates now I'd like to take you to a very very interesting part which is the analytics part so when you talk about analytics it is great to see how well your social media presence has done so now I'm going to be going ahead and jumping on the analytics part to show you that I will be using buffer Twitter account and we're going to look together and how else perform okay buffer Facebook account this time so now just jump to the analytics part okay so I'm going to be looking at post and what has been happening in my network so far we have a very useful widget here coming up that is called top post and that means out of the recent past this is the one post that perform best as you can see we've had up to 39 comments which is very very nice a cool thing you can do within um this little bit of history of your Social Media Net presence is to click comments for instance and when I click comments is going to open up all the comments that have been given to my post if I want I can click on people's name that will take me to the public profile and you'll even have a little box for you to comment straight from buffer which is super interesting it is the same thing with likes I can also very easily see who's been liking my updates oh and this is me by the way okay so now as I explained before it is completely right to tweet or to publish social media updates a few times over so to help you do this once you pinpoint what posts have been working well and something that has been interesting we made it super easy for you to take a post that have already published and to let you drag and drop that post back to the same account or to any other account you want that will have the effect to put it back in the queue so if you find a posst that perform well it is completely okay for you to put it back in a queue so that's the fourth TI I had for you is how to look at the post analytics and how to answer comments directly from buffer cool now we're going to look at another thing which is the analysis so the analysis part is a feature that is specific for buffer for business and that is super interesting for this example in particular we're going to look at the buffer Twitter account and I will take you through how it looks so here's the spirit of it what we have here is an history of how well our post have performed on the last 90 days if I want to I can go back in time and pick a different time frame with granularity down to today so you can even see how they perform within the span of a day when I Hoover on the graph on different time points I get the granularity and I see what's been happening on day which is really nice here I have a few different metrics note that we're looking at Twitter right now so if I was looking at the analytics for either um LinkedIn Facebook or Google Plus I will have different metrics to look at but on this one particular um I can play around with different things such as uh mentions for instance and look at how my mentions and Retreat correlate or do not correlate and you can do the same thing with clicks reach and followers so that helps you gain a lot of Intelligence on what is happening on your account at a given time and once again it is very easy for you to change the time span of it another thing is if you really want to do um analysis of your account it is super easy for you it's just a click away I'll do it straight away to export data as CSV it took me half a second and now I can go ahead and um play with data in Excel or any other spreadsheet you have so that is the chart part so that my tip number four that's buffer for analytics the overview part now since I have a Time TR of 90 days set if I scroll down a little bit I will see something that is extremely interested that is buffer recent posts so we choose 90 days so here are all the posts from the last 90 days and you can see that if I wanted I could keep scrolling scrolling down for a very long time because the account has been quite active let's go back up okay so what we see here are the latest posts and all the post that came out of buffer the last 90 days first you see the type so when have this symbol there have a link embedded that one is an image and if I scroll down a little bit you will find all the post like those ones that are plain text okay you also get different metrics which are retweet favorite mention clicks and the latest one is super interesting too it's potential if people are retweeting my dat I will see the number that number being number of followers plus the number of followers of people retweeting me now where it gets super interesting is you can really go back in time and you just one click away from seeing what post had the most retweet in the last 90 days that is three months so if I go ahead and click it you will just get real organized just way you expect it um a spreadsheet to work with that one tweet that did it fantastically well with 184 retweets and 110 favorites so essentially for all um different categories you have you can deep dive into what's going on pick the best one and remember if you find something that works you can keep working along those lines you can do something in the same direction or reschedule that interaction with your folding base so that's great to work on headlines as well and at this stage if you're interested on how to c craft headlines and how to be better at um crafting that that sort of updates I really encourage you to have a look at our blog um which is blog.bufferapp.com with a lot of information on it on how to craft great headlines okay so now let me take you to the next part of our presentation which is about secret buffer features and I'm super excited about this because I'm about to show you integration that I use on a daily basis so what's happening here is buffer is today integrated with about 40 different services and many of them are just great today I'm just pick two to give you a sneak peek on how we use uh we use them and well I hope you like it let's just Deep dive into this so let's take an example example say I'm browsing the internet and I happen to find a very cool blog that I like that serve me an article that I want to remember it often happen to me that I have many tabs open I'm looking at many things at the same time and I found one article that is really nice and I would like to remember so to do that I use another Chrome extension that is called Pockets you can find it at getpocket.com I will write that down in the video description and it's sitting right here on the top right corner of my screen right next to the buffer button so if I click save to Pockets I have a little bar showing up telling me that it's now saved what that means is now this article is going to show up in a list that I can review at later times it's a bit like putting it in your bookmark except that you can access it at any time from different devices so this is what my pocket look like right now and I have the option to consult it later on and most importantly for me I have the option to go and share it to buffer as well which I find super interesting because now even though I do not have time to read it I can also I can always refer back to it later on and share it with buffer so that's for Pockets the second thing I want to show you is Feedly Feedly is a great Reader application today I read about anywhere from 60 to 80 blogs and F fidly is a Chrome extension that help me stay organized so here's an example of how my fidly looks like and I'm following many different people one of the very nice thing with fidley is if I dive in the specific content such as this article on set Garden I can can read any blog I like within feedle and then straight from the app it is super easy for me to add this article to buffer I'm just going so you get a an illustration of it and um it makes it very simple for me to find content create cont create content and then put it out there for other people to see add a click of a button so that's tiep number seven those two integration pocket and fidly are super useful for my daily social media use now let me take you to the last thing I want to show you today tip number eight it's something that is a feature available for buffer for business users and that you might enjoy let's have a look at this okay so what's happening here is you have a variety of profile within buffer and we're very well aware that you always was trying to find the best content for your audience so what we've created is a new section that is called feeds what feeds mean is you can add one RSS feed from within buffer so that you can get the best content while staying in the application as well so I'm just going to click on it feeds and I just want to show you today how easy it is to add a new feed so if I add a website here I just type in the address I click on ADD feed amazing we got your feed yay and now the feed is showing up what this means is uh if you have a corporate feed if you have a newspaper you like or a publication you enjoy you can just enter the feed and then at a click of button it is very easy for you to share it and put it in the queue of a social media profile which we think is very exciting so that is tip number eight about how to use a buffer better it's a sort of a secret feature because it's only one week old and we're very excited about it and future developments as well at this stage if you enjoy what you've seen on the an analytics part sorry and on the Feats part I will highly recommend you to go ahead and have a look at our buffer for business offering you can get a 7-Day free trial so you won't be charged if you check it out and we have a made a special URL for you to check which is bit. C- buffer start and there you get all the information so that was the spirit of my presentation now I am going to stop sharing my screen and see if you have further question I can address I was super happy to share those tips with you I'm going to hang around for questions um please remember that this webinar is recorded So if you want to review it later on it will be available on YouTube and I will also be first updating the video description with all the links and tips I talked about and second send you an email with all that information as well great stuff
