Now, according to Meta, unless users choose to share media they've captured with Meta or others, that media stays on the user's device. But from my understanding of reading that other article, you have to actually turn off the feature to share with Meta, otherwise it's kind of on by default. That may have changed recently. They may have made it turned off by default now. I'm not 100% sure, but it's still weird and creepy nonetheless.
