Full Transcript

I spent this CES talking to myself. Except it's not me, it's my My Persona, an AI clone based on my appearance, voice, and writing. Companies can use these AI mimics to save their real staff from answering the same questions all day, whether it's the first line of customer service or a convenient way to answer repetitive HR queries. It's essentially just putting a familiar face on a chatbot. Though CEO Eric Vorn only sees that as a start, suggesting people could one day send a My Persona to chat to elderly relatives on their behalf, for example. Mine was trained on my restaurant newsletter, so it mostly answers questions about where to eat in London. I've also written about my favorite London sandwich shops, Italian restaurants, and a place called Tamala N1. The facial expressions are certainly a little stilted, but it does usually return answers I agree with, even doing a decent imitation of my writing style without regurgitating the exact words I once wrote. The beef is smashed crispy, but remains juicy. They don't do fries, but their crispy potatoes with garlic mayo are a great alternative. It can speak in over 160 languages, most of which I can't. And unlike many AI tools, it knows its limits. Ask a question it doesn't have the answer to, and it admits that right away, emailing the query to the actual human, who then has the chance to join the call and answer whatever question the AI clone couldn't. That's outside what I know. I've sent it over to Dominic. >> I'm not too worried that AI Dominic is going to replace me just yet, but I am a little relieved to know he's getting deleted when CES is done. And I don't think I'll be sending him to speak to grandma anytime soon.

Original Description

This is an eerie AI clone of Verge news editor Dominic Preston. The company calls them MyPersonas, and you can train the AI on one's appearance, voice, and writing. Dominic gave it his restaurant newsletter to train on, and the Persona can recite pretty closely to his writing. How would you feel using this?
