then ask you this before we talk about depression what is the opposite of depression happiness joy okay this is usually the answer I get what is the opposite of depression is to be able to feel all the emotions sometimes and sad sometimes of happy sometimes of depressed I'm disappointed and everything when there is depression then that is the only feeling there is just everything is so depressing and what is it good mental health in traditional Chinese medicine so first the patient is able to feel the full range of emotions just like I just mentioned and also that every emotion comes at the right time at the appropriate volume is not overwhelmed by the emotion and the patient is able to let go at the right time okay a bride should make you see through the patient's eyes the emperor's present it's vivid okay the patient shows emotional flexibility along with a firm sense of self so I'm able to adjust to situations without losing myself okay the patient communicates well with others and feels a sense of belonging the ability to feel belonging to a community to friends or society he now muscles pyramid of needs this is at the bottom the very basic need we have along with Wi-Fi I think is the sense of belonging ok what are the goals of the treatment so first we want the patient to be free from symptoms of depression and we want the emotional balance to be regaining but is that enough is that really enough I say no the patient needs to return to its original path and fulfills his destiny he needs to live according to his town and until I see my patient making active steps in his life in order to return to his path to to his town I'm not letting them go okay because if they're still stuck in that job that they hate with their spouse that they share their life with that they don't like then depression will just come back okay so they need to return to their child to balance and then the treatments revisit okay any questions when I study Chinese medicine we were told that depression has to do with liver Chi stagnation and it does but that's not always that of the case and in the past twelve years of treating hundreds and hundreds of people with depression I know in lives there are many more patterns and scenarios that the depression can manifesting in fact justice ever shown is unique every depression manifests itself you know you make way now this of course can be a three-day seminar semester of course but I just want to give you a little taste of it today so if we look at the patterns we have deficiency patterns and excess cutters each each of these represents a certain scenario with its own symptom and diagnosis okay so there is depression that is derived from spleen she not nourishing hachi or live the blood deficiency that doesn't fail to nourish the heart blood give me in fails to to nourish our team chameleon fuels North cartel and the a star turns liver Chi stagnation liver or hearts of heat fire toxicity then flame the missing the mind and each one of these is a very different type of depression naturally as you all know I'm sure most patients the diagnosis is a combination of several patterns okay and that may a little bit more conflict complicated and still just want to give you a food footer so I've chosen five of these scenarios some of these patterns and I'm going to talk about each one of them showing you how this type of patient looks like what are the symptoms the DD markers that you know that these this syndrome enough something else I have three main things I want you to take in today my message to you just as a Christian is unique every depression is you make it manifest itself in a unique way diagnose and treat accordingly acknowledge your feelings and address them they stay separated anchored in your emotional center have a lot of empathy and compassion for the patients as well as for yourself [Music]

Original Description

Take the full course with Oshri Zisman at: https://www.tcm.ac/courses/the-melancholic-shen Traditional Chinese Medicine gives us powerful tools to diagnose and treat patients who suffer from depression. In March 2018 the WHO announced that globally more than 300 million people of all ages affected by depression. Some of these people have already sought care and are being treated in our clinics. Based on my work over the past 12 years with patients suffering from mental health disorders, I believe that no two cases are the same. Just as every Shen is unique – every depression manifests itself in a distinct way. Each patient comes with his/her own personality, history, strengths and weaknesses. We should listen carefully to their stories because quite often, the diagnosis lays in what they tell us (and don’t tell us). This course explores 5 main types of depression derived from TCM theory, including the range of symptoms, the differential diagnosis, and appropriate Chinese herbal formulas and modifications for each type. Toward the end of it address some of the dynamics that characterize the patient-practitioner relationship in the treatment of patients with depression.
