What are Deep Agents?

Deep Agents is a term we coined to describe agents capable of handling complex, open-ended tasks over long time horizons. We identified four essential components that make this possible: a planning tool, access to a filesystem, subagents, and detailed prompts. We built deepagents as a Python package that brings all of these pieces together. With the framework in place, all you need to provide are your custom tools and a tailored prompt. deepagents makes it easy to build your own Deep Agent from the ground up.
