Key Takeaways
The video discusses the use of the `useDebugValue` React hook for debugging custom hooks, providing an easy way to inspect the values of a hook without having to open it up in the React Dev Tools.
Full Transcript
if you have a custom hook you're using in a component and you have the react dev tools you can scroll down to the hooks section when you select that component and you can see details such as the state for that hook but it's sometimes complicated to see what's going on in the hook because you have to open it up and look at the state which is where this hook called use debug value comes in you can pass it a string or an object or whatever and if we save this real quick and go select our app again you can see next to that user hook we're printing out the name of the user because that's where we're passing to this use debug value and we can pass whatever we want for example we can just pass the whole user object and then we can see that user object right next to the user we can open it up and we can even go into that debug value this is really useful since if you're creating like a custom hook for a library you can really easily see what the values of that are without even having to open the hook up this is a really underused hook that i have a full blog article covering with all the different use cases i'll link that in the description and comments below
