Full Transcript

okay fun question I know we don't know yet but I've been enjoying the advanced voice mode it really streams back and forth uh and it handles interruptions how would your audio endpoint change when when that comes out we're exploring you know new shape of the API to see how would would work in this kind of speech to speech Paradigm I don't think we're ready to share quite yet but we're definitely working on it I think just the regular request response probably isn't going to be the right solution for those who are listening along I think it's pretty public that open ey uses life kit for the for the chat gbt app which like seems to be the socket based approach that people should be at least up to speed on like I think a lot of developers only do request response and like that doesn't work for streaming yeah when we do put out this API I think we'll make it really easy for developers to figure out how to use it yeah it's hard to it'll be a paradig change

Original Description

OpenAI's voice mode is expected to change the way APIs are designed, with a focus on real-time interactivity and speech-to-speech paradigms. Developers will need to adapt to new API design patterns and technologies like WebSockets. The upcoming API is expected to make it easy for developers to figure out how to use it, despite the paradigm change.

Key Takeaways
  1. Explore the current limitations of request-response APIs for real-time interactivity
  2. Research socket-based approaches like WebSockets and LifeKit
  3. Design APIs with speech-to-speech paradigms in mind
  4. Implement streaming data handling in API design
  5. Test and iterate on API design for real-time interactivity
💡 The traditional request-response API design pattern may not be suitable for real-time interactivity and speech-to-speech paradigms, and developers will need to adapt to new technologies and design patterns.
