hello everyone thank you so much for joining in for the webinar session so my name is Murthy and I'll be with you in this session today so folks in today's session we will be looking into the difference between the Amazon AWS and the Google Cloud so that's the topic of today's session now with the agenda of today's session is as follows so first we'll start by understanding what exactly is this cloud provider the difference between the AWS and Google cloud and then as we progress we will look into the job trends for each of the platform and at the end we'll have a quick summary about as which one that you should choose so that's the agenda for today's session okay now one of the key highlight about this Google Cloud certification training program that we have got at Erica is it follows an approach that's known as a structured learning approach so when I say structured learning approach here you will take up a step-by-step manner that is step-by-step Learning Journey so that you will be able to learn in a sequential way and also become the industry ready professional in this category or in this topic of Google Cloud platform so if I describe The Learning Journey so first unit is about the introduction to gcp the second unit is about how you can manage the Google Cloud platform followed by security and identity fundamentals and then in the fourth module it's about the compute Services fifth module is about the data storage six is about Google kubernetes engine and seventh is about the automation eight is about the devops services that are available in Google Cloud platform and 9 and 10 includes big data and AI services and we'll also look into the gcp architect cheat sheet and the case studies so as you can clearly see each module has been carefully designed so that this is intended to make you an industry ready professional in this Google Cloud platform technology okay now proceeding ahead in a Learning Journey let's start by understanding what exactly is a cloud computing now when I say cloud computing so cloud computing is an yes it's a It's actually an on-demand delivery of compute power database storage applications and other it infrastructure through a cloud services platform with the help of the internet and here we have got a payment model which is a pay as you go model now in the scenario of this cloud computing we'll be using the remote servers which are present on the internet in order to store manage and process the data rather than a local server or using our personal computer so with the help of this cloud computing as an Enterprise we are going to get some of the amazing benefit so first and foremost we are going to get the data security by implementing the stringent policies which are supported by various cloud computing vendors it ensures the use of dynamically scalable servers it helps us with the fast computation and the remote access to the devices and with the pay as you go model we will get the flexibility which will ensure the high cost optimization so because of all these benefits whenever we are building any Enterprise application whether it's a very big company or a small startup we will prefer to work with cloud computing now when we talk s cloud services we categorize the cloud services into three types one is infrastructure as a service platform as a service and the third type is software as a service and apart from that we also have something called as on-premise so on-premise is a scenario where as a developer or as a company you will be responsible for each and everything that is required for you to run the application so which means you are responsible for your application code you are responsible for the data that you are actually generating and storing for your applications you are responsible for using the runtime and deciding which environment to use and ensuring that this runtime is always accessible and be available for the programs and along with that so you are responsible for the middlewares in case if your application requires connectivity between multiple Services you are responsible for implementing the middleware the maintenance of server and its optimization operating system virtualization storage networking everything is managed by yourself when I say yourself it's about like when you are implementing it as a company you are responsible for doing that okay now here in this scenario okay when we talk about the infrastructure as a service with this infrastructure as a service so you you will be responsible for the applications data runtime middleware and the operating system the other services like the virtualization servers storage networking will be managed by the cloud service provider so this is a scenario of infrastructure as a service next we have got the platform as a service so in case of platform as a service you will be responsible for the applications and the data the remaining everything will be managed by the vendor itself lastly we have got the software as a service so here the end to end will be maintained by the vendor itself to give you an example for infrastructure as a service I can say virtual computer or the virtual server so when I say virtual server whether it is in AWS or gcp in AWS we have called as ec2 so I can get an ec2 instance and I can mention the configuration and I can access and I can build any application that I want on that virtual server and when I say platform as a service to give you an example Salesforce is an example for platform as a service so here that is an application that runs on client and on top of that Salesforce you can build your own application and then you are responsible for maintaining the data and all those things that is responsible from us for software as a service it's a software that we can access it with the help of the internet an example can be Gmail so if you consider Gmail everything is maintained by the Google so you don't have to worry about application code data and everything it is maintained by the vendor itself so this is called as software as a service okay now when we talk about the cloud service providers who provides the cloud computing and the other services that are required to us so there are various Cloud providers that we have got in the market we have got digitalocean we have VMware and we have something called as Rackspace we have Google cloud platform and we also have the AWS Microsoft as your IBM cloud Terry Mark joined so these are the various cloud service vendors or the cloud service providers that we have got in the market right now now these cloud service providers or Cloud providers provides various Services where as a customer I can use those services and I'll be billed only on the amount of resources that I'll be consuming so depending on the usage I will be making the payment to them so this is about the various Cloud providers now one such Cloud providers that we have got is a gcp which is nothing but the Google Cloud platform so let us compare the gcp with the AWS so both are I would say top Cloud providers that we have got in the Market at this time so let us compare it and let's understand let's compare it from the various aspects okay so here let's talk about the AWS see this AWS I would say that this is one of the old Cloud providers that we have got right now okay so I would say that this AWS has 31 percentage of global cloud computing Market that we have got and since this this has been established a long before so this AWS has a bigger community support and the AWS has some of the high profile customers like Netflix air to B and B BMW Unilever Samsung xiaomi Zynga so these are the various companies who are actually using AWS in their organization and when we talk about this gcp that is Google Cloud platform so here with this gcp so This Google Cloud platform has got its own share of customers and the user base because of the fact that they are going to offer the same infrastructure which they would actually use it to run their Google applications like Google search YouTube and the Google products so this uh because of this reason even I would say some of the organizations who are actually using workload platform would include PayPal HSBC 20th Century Fox Bloomberg Domino's so these are all the companies that they are actually using the Google Cloud platform okay so I can say that like since this gcp has been launched little later than the AWS so last time when we have checked so the eight percent of the global cloud computing Market is being captured by this Google Cloud platform okay so this is about one comparison and when we talk about this AWS and gcp so both provide some of the common services like it provides a compute Services storage Services database services and it will also compare the pricing downtime troubleshooting and monitoring so let's go ahead and do that see when we talk about the compute services so here when we talk in in case of AWS okay we have something called as Amazon elastic computer Cloud which is my ec2 and we have the elastic bean stock which is under the platform as a service and we also have the serverless function like AWS Lambda and for running the container in AWS we have something called as Amazon elastic compute Cloud container service and when we compare it with the gcp so here as an infrastructure as a service so we have got the Google compute engine okay we have the Google apps engine just like we have got elastic Beanstalk we have the app engine and just like we have got the AWS Lambda in Google Cloud platform we have the serverless function of cloud functions and just like we have got the eks so we have got the Google kubernetes engine and this was about the compute Services okay now let's have a comparison on the storage services in the storage service for saving the okay yeah so for saving the data in an object format AWS has a service that is called as an S3 service that is Amazon simple storage service and while in gcp we have got the Google Cloud Storage coming to the block storage we have got elastic block storage or the elastic Block store and here in case of gcp we have got Google compute engine persistent disk for the cold storage we have got the AWS glacier and in the gcp we can make use of Google cloud storage near line and for the file storage we have the EFS that is elastic file system and in gcp we have got ZFS or aware so these are the various storage services that we have got in AWS as well as TCP coming to the database services so in AWS under the rdbms we have got the Amazon relational database service that is RDS and in gcp we have got the Google Cloud SQL database and for nosql we have got the Amazon dynamodb and in case of gcp we've got the Google Cloud bigtable we also have the Google cloud data store which supports the nosql which is a key value and in case of nosql index we have got the simple DB in AWS and then gcp we have got the Google cloud data store and we also have a redshift in AWS which similar service that we have got in gcp is the bigquery so this is the comparison between the database Services which will help us to store the data and retrieve the data in an efficient manner and coming to the pricing see in both the scenarios so it is uh like pay as you go model so that's a very high level I would say when we talk about pricing okay so when we talk about the smallest instance in case of AWS a very basic instance which includes two virtual CPU and 8 GB of RAM will cost you around I would say 69 dollars per month in case of gcp so I would say that the gcp will provide the most basic instance which contains two virtual CPU and 8 GB of RAM at a 25 percent cheaper right so when it comes to pricing it is little cheaper when you compare it with AWS and it would cost you just 52 dollar per month and when you talk about the larger instance a very big instance that is offered by AWS can have close to 4 DB of RAM and 128 virtual CPUs and it would cost you about four dollars per hour and when you talk about gcp like it will provide a similar configuration like close to 40b of RAM and 160 vcpus that is supported and it would cost you around 5.5 dollars okay so that's about the uh pricing and even you can make use of reserved instances or the spot instances to get to make some cost optimization whenever you are accessing the compute services from AWS okay now coming to the troubleshooting and network monitoring so original monitoring so in AWS we have got the cloud trial and Cloud watch so using these Services we can monitor the various resources and the services and check the health and also trigger the automation when something is not working as per the expectation okay now we in case of gcp we have got the stackdriver logging and the stackdriver monitoring so these are the troubleshooting and the monitoring tools that are available in gcpe now when we talk about the network location I think like if I if I just add some more information before I talk about which is best see AWS currently has locations in around 24 regions that last I checked and it like last I read it was close to around 80 zones and it had around 200 200 plus Network its location with with its presence in 245 countries and the territories Amazon offers multiple availability Zone in twice as many regions as gcp or Google okay so here we we have seen that I think you might have seen the advertisements as well Amazon has already launched a few more data centers in India as well now because of this I would say the AWS wins when it comes to the network location okay and when it comes to the downtime so having comparatively more infrastructure so the maximum downtime phase which was experienced by AWS was in 2005 and it has actually lasted for 2 hours and 30 minutes where having a progressive infrastructure Google faced a huge downtime in the year of 2015 and this has actually lasted around 11 hours and 34 minutes so like with that I think both the companies have learned and uh like we believe that it is much less likely to happen much less likely to face such downtime again but however it's natural that AWS gets preferred over gcp whenever we talk about the downtime because even the largest downtime faced by AWS was actually Harvest shorter than the gcp downtime okay now this was about the AWS and the gcp okay so here the like if I want to conclude as who actually wins the overall Cloud battle here so here uh like let's start uh like discussing about what we have mentioned okay so here when we talk about AWS so AWS might be leading in terms of number of customers Services products and the market share and this gcp also tends to take the lead in terms of competitive as well as the cost effective pricing models and more customization options that are provided to its customer and if you consider the trust factor I would say AWS with its five years of Head Start that it actually has so surely it actually does enjoy more trusted relationship with its clients and customers and on the other hand Google with its reputation for developing the world's leading products they surely make the good gcp or the Google Cloud platform seem promising so all things considered it will be better to say that the choice between the Google cloud and the AWS it definitely comes down to the personal preference so uh I would say that so like it all comes down to the personal preference now as a developer if you have a question as okay which platform to choose I will say go by the preference of your organization if your organization has the customers using the gcp then your first preference in learning should be the Google Cloud platform if your organization has a customers who is preferring AWS then as a professional it should be your preferred one to choose the AWS one and when you talk about the job posting so and if you search whether it's in LinkedIn or any job portals you would observe that for both the cloud computing domain you see an equal number of openings or almost same number of openings but in some for some job rules so you will see most uh job openings for the AWS this could be because more more and more customers are actually having the AWS compared to Google as of now okay so with this we come to the end of this today's session t so thank you so much everyone for joining in for this session so take care everyone
