here just with that quick video to address some of the questions that have come across my desk in the last two weeks as we are heading into our week three ish or so so just gonna talk a little bit about the exams in this course the assignments the discussion boards and class meetings firstly we will be having exams in this class we have three midterm exams and we will also have one final exam during finals week each of the three midterm exams are non-comprehensive they only cover the material for the first one up until that exam and for the second and third one it will cover material since the last exam excuse me each midterm is worth 40 points the final exam will be worth 80 points the final exam is also comprehensive all of our exams are four exams our three midterms in our final are posted or will be posted rather on flat world knowledge homework platform so as we talked about in the intro video you need to check both canvas and flat world knowledge to make sure that you are up to speed on where you need to be the homework um assignments are also listed in the sketch in the schedule though weird hard time speaking english today here is some brand new information we will do the exams with an open book we will not be having you on zoom or i will not have any other sort of video or software monitoring you and your screen rather we will do an open book and so we don't have to worry about any issues with that so you have you can have access to your notes you can have access to your book i would still recommend that you study i've done open book exams in the past and they seem still to be somewhat challenging for students if you haven't studied if you study then i think you should be doing quite okay with the material the midterms are open for 24 hours from monday morning to tuesday morning the final exam are 48 hours so you have two days for the final exam you still have just the 80 minutes but you can choose any time during the 48 hours to take the final for the midterm exam you will have 75 minutes and you will have to take that sometime during the 24 hours you cannot stop the exam and come back to it you can do that with assignments but you cannot do it with exams you have multiple choice and true false questions on the exams and the questions are dynamic meaning they change for each student i'm so sitting in a group and and doing the exam i do not recommend it because you're not looking at the same answers and that will probably be more likely confusing than anything else i do recommend studying firstly because it's good knowledge and i want you to retain it so that you can be a you know better citizen in or any organization that you hang out in uh or or are paid by but also uh it really doesn't make sense to try to collude or coordinate with others for the exams because the exams are built in a way that makes it very very tricky to contribute to each other's and then we have the assignments we have the assignments also on flat world knowledge much like the exams they are also listed on your schedule they are available for about one week right so you have about seven days for this as for these assignments you can stop them and come back to them later as far as i understand the platform i've actually never taken an assignment but students tell me that they can do this uh we always need to check this platform plus canvas and we have eight assignments they are 20 points each and one has already been posted and the next one is coming not this week but next canvas ah so close so close the discussion boards we have a frequently asked question discussion board i have learned that my canvas notifications go to my junk my junk folder in my email which is strange because they're still internal to our university but we have a very strict junk folder apparently and so i haven't been as quick on that so i've made a note to myself to go in manually and check the discussion boards once per day rather than relying on my email which is seemed to be faulty so what i also posted in addition to the frequently asked discussion board is weekly chapter discussion boards as we've already responded to in the faq they're not mandatory you're not required to do them i most definitely encourage you to do it right my goal here is really for you to retain and learn this information uh and and the more you interact with the information the more you engage with it the easier it will be for you you will retain it you will do better on the exams you'll be that do better when you're looking for jobs and as an employee coming in as an individual contributor or even as a manager or an entrepreneur running your own small business right these are skills that you need so interacting with this material is is i think the best way to do it all right so for our last slide then i had a question about class meetings do we meet for class and the answer is no not for this class we do do not have zoom meetings synchronous meaning uh we log in at the same time and hang out this is a completely asynchronous class it's asynchronous meaning we don't have class meetings at all but rather the videos that i've provided substitute the meetings so when i talk about a couple of hours or two three hours in the syllabus that means you should be spending that time on the videos to listen to the lectures and as you already know this is where you find those class meetings i hope i've answered most of your questions if not all of them and if there are still questions please let me know thank you have a good one and i'll see you soon bye
