in the chat the new CCNA does not require that you have python skills or knowledge really which is interesting but also kind of reassuring because if you're starting for the CCNA see see any like oh my gosh the new stuff has Network automation you're trying to learn networking and also will learn the automation piece and does the automation piece networking is going away do you even use that anymore so it's kind of scary I get them but if we pull up the new CCNA blueprint did I have that going somewhere let me see oh yeah let me switch to my screen here so looking at the new CT name blueprint look at the exam topics if I actually click on that the only part we're gonna worry about as far as automation or programmability will be the automation portion the automation of programmability which is domain 6 which just happens to be the section of the exam I'm teaching on at CBT Nuggets field super-fun but anyways the portion or what we're covering in the automation part of it is more just knowing how automation works and why we need ottoman how is Network automation going to impact our networks because I know there's a lot of fear for people when I first got into network automation I was honestly scared or when I first heard about it I'm like okay I've been learning all the Cisco stuff I'm I'm pretty good at it but does all this new stuff coming up mean I'm not gonna have a job anymore I think automation I think like you know people manufacturing cars and stuff like robots are replacing those workers kind of scary a little bit but it's not the case what this is showing us is I it's actually gonna make a job easier it's gonna give you back more time I'll go into more on that later I'll go into more that my course as well but just note you don't need to know Python for the CCNA but I don't want that to be a oh good I don't have to learn programming kind of thought for you know doesn't mean you're not gonna have to learn Python after the CCNA because you definitely need to and I want to go into now about the dev net associates so I'll go with this if you're studying for your CCNA now the old one maybe what do you do to get ready for the new automation stuff I mean because a lot of you are going for the old CCNA which we're calling old it's still the current one but you might already have the CCNA or it might be trying to finish you might be trying I can't talk today I've had way too much coffee everyone got the coffee uh who I've had way too much coffee today anyhow um someone asked do you need to know for ccmp great question we'll get to that in a moment by the way how's everyone doing tonight I hope you're doing great my good morning for you I don't know anyways whereas I going with this okay Python um if you're studying for this current CCNA or you're planning on studying for the new CCNA more specifically for the current CCNA you are going to be missing that Network automation piece that the new CCNA will have so what I recommend for you guys is you pick up the study material for the new CCNA just for the automation part so domain six program billet programmability and automation take that part up study it so you have that knowledge with you with the old CCNA and then new CCNA folks you're getting that knowledge already because you're studying for it you're gonna pass the exam for that February 24th which I I'm going to schedule my 324th anyone else gonna do that I'm gonna try and do a few things actually so anyways I but you should never stop at CCNA Python will be very important it'll be integral an integral part for any path to go down and the Cisco tracks and I want to go into this a lot of people are getting really excited about the dev net associate what is that well it's it's the the new certification that the dev net team has produced but who's it for I know when I first heard about it I got super stoked excited cuz I'm thinking wow a definite exam that means I'm gonna be able to learn Python as a network engineer and and and do all kinds of crazy stuff but that's not the case that's not what it's for let me show you real quick if we look at it I've got it pulled up here the dev net associate offered by dev net and if I go to the exams and jump into the de bas see look at the exam topics even just reading the summary it's for where to go it's test the knowledge a candidate's knowledge of software development and design including use of API as well blah blah blah basically what it's for is it's for developers it's for programmers just for people who are looking to take their software development knowledge and use it on Cisco networks so what you'll notice is that majority of this exam is all software development and then the domain six is network fundamentals and the network fundamentals is like the fundamentals they're not teaching you anything like developing or configuring routers and switches you're not doing that you're just learning like okay here's how a network works in a nutshell kind of we'll see how well it does but yeah that's that's the network part oh what just happened who is my new computer having a heart attack on the stream I sure hope not another definite associate is not out yet it'll be out February 24th like everything else so again I wanted to address that because people are getting a sad about the definite associate oh my gosh so cool I want to become definite certified not for you if you're a network engineer it doesn't mean you can't go for it doesn't mean that if if you as a network engineer progressed so far into your programming knowledge that you need to go get the definite Assoc or you think it might be a complementary skill for you doesn't mean you shouldn't do that but I'm just telling you right now the definite associate exam is geared for software developers I think the the actual audience is software developers who have about a year of experience under their belt but that's about it oh boson you said don't distract you but it distracted me thanks boson for the for the super chat and shows boson some love they're doing that 30% discount on the net sim which is great for the current CCNA and they also guarantee that if you buy the current netsim you will be drafted in you'll get the new netsim for the new CCNA so if you're starting for the new CCNA right now anyways so dead net associate not for you buddy if you're a network engineer not yet not yet we'll take us to the coffee now who i missed last week's live stream now I'm like rearing to go here we go and again I have way too much coffee so what does that mean for you where do you go next if you do want to pursue the the Python side of things I do want to go deeper and deeper into network programmability glad you asked where you will go is to the ccmp track so while on the CCNA you don't have to know any Python you kind of learn the basic you learn what is network programmability what is Network automation why would I use it it kind of goes through that so I get distracted by the chat so where do you go ccmp if look at the CCP enterprise exam which is kind of replacing the CC and P routing and switching I love the CCP Enterprise exam but if you look at it in case you don't know about the new CCP some I don't have that out there in case you don't know about the new CCP every CCMP track no matter what you go down you have one core exam that covers all the core technologies in that track so enterprise is going to cover a lot of routing and switching in that core exam if you're done collaboration the collaboration core exam will cover the core technologies you have to know for collaboration security you know etc for the CCMP Enterprise you have the these what do they call concentrations so you take the core exam and then you can take one concentration of your choice it's kinda like a buffet just pick whatever one you want and with those two exams you become CCMP certified so for those of you wanting to become more automation focused first if you look at the encore exam which is super fun the I'll put in the link after I'm done with the livestream so I forgot to put it in there but Jason ghuli and friends from Cisco press released the new Encore study book and our study guide and it's awesome I read the network cram ability section on it Jason Cooley is a beast he's awesome anyways if you look at the exam topics for the encore exam they got domain 6 automation just like the CCNA except you're required to learn basic Python you got to interpret it so interprets strung there I don't think we actually have to create any Python scripts at that point you have to know about ansible puppet chef same thing for CCNA so it's not that much different probably go deeper but it's not that much different and that's a noble api's you have to actually construct JSON so really you're just kind of analyzing Python and knowing how to work with all the tools so that gives you a good baseline for network automation in case you a bit further from the CCNA really not too far more hands-on CCNA gives you a great introduction ccp encore takes you a bit further but what if what if you're not ready or what if you're not satiated yet what if you want to go deeper in the Python what if you want to become an automation boss first you need to learn Python Python is amazing learning programming used to be scary to me but it's super fun you can learn Python through there's so many free things out there that are amazing I chose Codecademy which I'll put in the links below code Khadem e is by far my number one way to learn Python I went through it I haven't finished you actually but everything I learned so far has been a huge asset whenever I've done with a Cisco Network programmability um it's it's been fantastic anyways link below so if we jump over to let me get back let me get back here I'll get back to the page where we have our concentrations if you want to go further if you can go deeper they have an automation track specifically for enterprise now that was cool about this is every single ccnp track whether it be collaborations security is going to have an automation concentration or automation specialization the concentration is a weird name for that where you can go deeper into the programmability you will need to know python so if you look at the stuff for it it's called in auto if i jump in there Oh Dwayne Hamilton welcome to becoming a 10x engineer thank you for joining I look at the exam topics obviously it's huge I mean it's covering all the specific api's and such for SD when DNA Center Meraki which is kind of funny because it's very very similar to the dev net associate exam I'm really I'm I haven't done the work and it will never know until the tests come out but I'm curious how different the automation the in Auto exam is compared to the definite associate it seems very very close but let's keep looking so network programmability foundation domain one let's see I think you actually have to so you have to interpret Python scripts at the defi own virtual environments I learned that with Hank Preston and as a this course let's see if there's any I thought you have to oh yeah there it is under network device program ability you have to construct a Python script using instant client and that conf so yeah so to bring all this home do you need to know Python for CCNA No do you need to know Python for the CC and P encore exam a little bit you have to be able to interpret it but you'll have to write it but for the automation piece yeah boy you got to know that you got to know how to write it which i think is super exciting someone asked what's the future Sdn or Python they're synonymous so Sdn guess I go can go into this right this will be a big place in my course but Sdn Software Defined Networking is a big buzzword that can be interpreted in a million different ways and it has but basically what it comes down to is using like a controller a holistic solution to control your network so let's say you got you know 50 routers thousand switches I don't know what you have you would use a controller like Cisco DNA center which would be the central you know thing you'll be tested on and on the exams Cisco DNA Center is your software-defined network controller and it will reach out to all the devices and control it so you'll put hey I want this billion to be able to talk to this VLAN and you'll just put your intent until the controller and then the controller makes it happen so you know knowing how to go in there and configure a VLAN knowing how to go in there and you can fit your access list and putting a firewall rules it's good to know but that layer has been abstracted you don't have to actually go in there and do it it's automated so that's software-defined networking where python comes into play is when you start when you script your own stuff or when you're working with other stuff like ansible or any kind of in anyone those tools or if you're working with net comp I mean Python will come into play on all these things but as far as like a software-defined network a proper software-defined network you're gonna be dealing with a large controller that honestly you don't have to know much programming you just have to know how to connect it to Cisco DNA Center and it takes care of it for you but knowing Python will always always be a huge asset to you and I the exams speak for themselves now you're not gonna go far without knowing Python is it's a requirement now it's ansible on the exam yes it's fart well I say yes you have to know about ansible you have to know what it does and in comparison to puppet or chef you have to know the differences and they do they do act differently agent versus agent less kind of configuration so you'll have to know about it and you know my opinion on how you learn things you always got to lap it up you always got to play with it so even at the CCNA level I would encourage you to lap it up ansible is free to download download that sucker the there's so much stuff available to be able to connect your ansible controller or whatever want to call it to your network devices to your Cisco router to your Cisco switch to your juniper net gear what's going on pakka thrower anything really Christian asks any recommendations for learning Python other than CBT Nuggets I'm a very hands-on loner loner I'm a loner kind of learner yeah code Academy is the best place to learn Oh Riley oh my goodness I posted on this last week but you just because Safari Books online now is called O'Reilly if you subscribe to it they give you pretty much every book you can ever think of it's a monthly subscription but if you want the Cisco press books all the CCNA books CCP they're all available you just go in there and it's like the Netflix of books but they also have video training and they also now have just an environment you can jump into to play with Python so if you're studying Python in the book you can jump into a Python interpreter IDE that's just right there in the portal um I should probably jump in there and show you well you pull it up here it was one of the coolest things I was shocked to see it says they acquired this company called cat coda I think I was like a billion dollar acquisition but it's super cool so let me share my screen here so looking right at the O'Reilly screen you can see I've been reading my number of crammed ability books from Jason Edelman and then I've got the CCP encore but right here I've got sand boxes you can jump into a Python tensorflow Ubuntu you can practice with scenarios I haven't done that yet but yeah if I want to practice Python it just throws me into an environment which I think it's a great addition for this so cool look at that anyways so yeah learning Python again there's a million places you can learn it for free just fine YouTube is a great resource for learning Python but like everything you get what you pay for if you invest in a good tool to help you learn Python you're gonna do great the reason I love code Academy is because it's pretty much only hands-on you start coding the second you start learning you just go and the coke atom is free I do recommend going for the pro because they give you projects you work through which just reinforces all that stuff it's I've never had more fun learning something anyway so that was I did sum up what this video was about do you need to know Python for CCNA No CCP yes and if you would go further down the automation track go for the enoughto exam and go for the automation specialties in each track i'm w14 security which would be fun collaboration all the other stuff and the big the big question mark is will definite a sociate be popular for network engineers and i guess the real question is who's gonna want people with the definite associate exam it's it's a new psych Cisco's trying out something new like we know that um Cisco is gonna have to react to how the the the industry reacts the industry may not even care about the Devin associate I mean let's be honest if you're a software developer or a programmer you're you care this much about getting certifications it's all about your github it's all about what you've done your work your projects they're not like us where we get our CCNA ccnp and that's kind of showing what we know so I don't know who's actually going to want someone with the definite associate apart from dev not wanting you to have the dev that associate so I think it's a cool idea I really do I don't know what companies are gonna ask for that I think a company would probably look for someone with the new CCNA or a CCP automation specialization and even that well I go out we we don't know how the industry's gonna react to all these concentrations it's gonna be so crazy because we have all these you could say your CC and Pete Enterprise certified but you could be a different flavor I mean we got six different flavors I think six yeah I think oh six you could be automation you could be security time I think and yeah they're gonna put CCP enterprise but how they're gonna dichotomize and figure out the specialization of the concentrations I don't know how it's gonna work um I feel like Cisco which is something I am not even as I named my radar right now but it should be because we're becoming more me cisco has been telling us we're becoming more developers and it's all about this continuous development we have to start adopting the methodologies that the software development immunity is been using for ever and that's part of it we have to learn how to use all that stuff so using git and again I'm still the new body but I know I know that there's continued it like see ICD nala stuff we had to learn that and that's that's coming down the road a treaty our network like code which will should be interesting but for now we're all still taking baby steps it's like when I'm talking about the new CCNA and the the Network automation piece I'm going to walk you through the baby steps of okay well what even is Network automation and I'll kind of take you through a timeline of like okay what do we first start automating how did we start making more things happen so I'll cover all we let's let's look instead of logging into one device let's log into four devices all at once and then apply a configuration that's just automation that's simple we're not using anything crazy we're using that miko a little python script but it does go deeper to where oh it can be a whole crazy just ecosystem of amazing stuff dimitri good to see you brother I challenge you to attempt for the knowledge bad for anything else I guess a certification is only good if the industry values it is an HR department or a company looking for that cert the genus 3 associate I don't I think it fell flat as cool thing to get like it's in the knowledge is is solid you'll learn something so good from that but to go through the study track and and it pay for that exam that putting on your horse to one cart and then never move you're gonna be in a bad way but if you keep seeking the new technologies and keeping your head up and looking at what's changing you will be fine I've been talking about this this automation stuff and in learning Python for a couple years of my channel and now Cisco has finally you know put the standard out you have to learn it this is it it's still going to be a slow adopt a because guess what a lot of companies don't care about automation just yet what companies care about now especially their midsize is they just want their network to run and I go down and be fine and they're not running automation they're still running they're still they still need network engineers to log in and in troubleshoot and manage stuff where we're gonna see automation really come into play is when those same network engineers realize that they don't have any time have you you may be that person right now and I've been that person and it nearly killed me where you're understaffed because IT departments are always understaffed and you are deploying I don't know like a back in when I was doing it I had three or four sites I was deploying each week and those just mean how you know it was a router and that was a switch that was an access point that was a manual configuration yeah I did some things to try to automate it but it was still a manual process I still had to ship it out I still to jump on a call to on hands guy to walk them through it there are always issues as a paint and and then also have to manage the on-site network and make sure everything works and things would go down I'm try to just hair off fire all the time late night calls just that's not fun I love networking but those situations I'm gonna say it make you start to hate networking because it is a very very stressful job Automation is here to save us from that you still got to know how SPF works you still have to know spanning tree you so have to know all that stuff you have to know it you can't automate you should never automate what you don't already understand but it's gonna make your life easier so to ant long answer to your short question the safety net is - yeah you're gonna flow into programming you are you're not gonna be a full fledged software developer so you may want to be I don't know but you don't have to be you just have to know enough to be able to interact with scripts the beauty of it is you can find a ton of scripts online that people have already written they're fantastic and you can just steal them and go from there it's industry industry by storm and it's getting traction but it's gonna become a solid player this could be like the cloud technologies we have now AWS versus a sure you know cisco has their ACI product and VMware has our NSX they I think you'd learn have a little bit of both sometimes it's not gonna be one or the other I don't wanna browsers keep doing that go bacon any thoughts on ansible oh ansible is fun ansible is amazing I will be going into I'm gonna make a whole thing ansible on my channel but it's a great way to get into automation not with just network automation of a system automation Linux automation automate all the things Oh Michael I I keep missing what you're asking if you can ask it again I just kind of go through the chat here and it goes by quick get Jorge's asked or is Singh Chuck check my next course stack Red Hat certification then taking open ship with kubernetes this can be a month after I test for CCNA that's intense and that's a fantastic path I mean Red Hat gosh at that I'm that's my radar for 2020 I'm gonna get the right hat certifications and then kubernetes and docker has a hold there's so many things on the rise and so much change it's crazy but at the same time you just learn the basics like I understand like a lot of your are just now getting into ICA or you're just now studying for the CCNA that's fine take a breath take one step at a time like I often get crazy for him because I want to learn Python in depth is in depth as I can but also I want to learn Linux in depth I want to learn docker I want to learn ansible I won't learn AWS Google cloud now I gotta learn go because Dimitri said to it's easy to get overwhelmed and you can't learn at all so take baby steps just tackle one project at a time that's one thing I'm having to teach myself both with learning stuff in in networking in IT and also with just YouTube and all the stuff I do with my job be patient you've got time you have time you don't have to do everything at once yeah you're not gonna get left behind as long as you keep learning you're not gonna get left behind you're not gonna miss a huge you know I mean there will be opportunities it will all be always be more opportunities not gonna miss like the you're the one thing that you're gonna have in your life is gonna change your life you're not gonna miss that there always be more opportunities if you keep preparing yourself and keep learning so that's my advice for you just take your time don't get overwhelmed um and also have fun if you don't enjoy this you're not gonna like today when I was messing with this gns3 stuff and in messing with some Python scripts I was having fun like I time I saw a Pomodoro timer 25 minutes and it goes by like that which by the way is the genius what I would say is don't go to a higher level don't go to any level stay at the associate level so if you want to go to like well it's kind of hard now right because the CCNA removed all the associate stuff but maybe go for like a Linux cert complement your skills may start learning some Python for sure but don't go too high because it's gonna hurt your chances to find a job in Java people want entry-level people yeah that's kind of weird always said people want entry-level people for entry-level jobs there we go I kind of had that confuse if if they if they see a CC and PE certified person applying for an entry-level job it's a red flag it's weird they're they're gonna think one or two things they're gonna think that you're a paper cert that you didn't really study and you just brain dumped it you don't know this technology or two you're just trying to get your foot in the door and you're gonna you just going to get a little bit experience and try to move up or away as fast as possible so they they're not gonna like that at all so don't go too high too fast I would focus all your energy into marketing yourself figuring out how to market yourself double down on solidifying those CCNA topics and your knowledge and yeah I just apply like a madman all that time like I think gosh my interview with the Cisco Panther about how he was doing his job search tree your job search like a job like you're studying I mean come at it with ferocity you wake up you apply the hundred jobs a day get your cover letter get a make sure every job you're applying for you put your best foot forward create a YouTube channel create a blog make it happen you can do I mean you can do anything nowadays you have limitless and resources put all your effort there we had a new member Rayleigh asks what are your thoughts on the MCS a server 2016 that's what is currently studying it's rough because we don't use the technologies covered at work thoughts that's a hard place to be when you're trying to learn a technology that you're not working with you got i saw a broken record but i got to say it again you always want to learn something that your your current company will value because you will be able to again immediately apply that technology to whatever you're working on and it'll give you more promotion opportunities learning something is always valuable always valuable but you can take that something you've learned and change that into experience it's gold it's gold literally gold you can translate that into money promotions whatever so learning a technology that your company doesn't use that's rough it's really rough it's I was surprised in my interview with the packet thrower in my last interview I asked him the question at the end I said what would you recommend should be the first certification you get after a CCNA he said MCSA he said because knowing about how to use Microsoft servers is a killer a skill with the networking skills mainly because the cloud as your AWS Google cloud odds are even on-prem odds are the company you're gonna join is going to use some sort of Microsoft server environment let's roll Linux and I'm sure there are environments like that but a lot of companies the majority of companies use Microsoft so what having that skill set it's gonna just ah be crazy for you so yeah as far as the value of it yeah it's gonna help you all so much knowing networking and Microsoft it's gonna is gonna just put you over the edge as far as being burnt out on it being rough and hard and not be able to using your company something you gotta judge if your company's like hey we really need someone to learn AWS but you hand up be that guy it's gonna help you out so much Oh what's my new monitor oh it's an LG ought to put AWS person I still am giving a Debus practitioner exam you can be both like my brother was telling me that uh that they're putting their wireless controller and management in the cloud an AWS so I I know it's confusing because I say take it one step at a time learn learn take baby steps tone the foundations but you can become a hybrid of something you can know eat the u.s. and wireless really well you can know that and you might find a job that's just a perfect mix of that it could happen I think the rule really what what's happening now um and it's it might be stressful for some I understand but it's really cool for a lot of people now too is that there are so many things you can learn so many directions you can go down you are not without options you can learn whatever you stinking want if you find something super boring like collaboration or if you just really don't like riding a switching you can just take a little tweak to left or to the right and learn cloud and pair some of that knowledge with that it's just it's so cool so don't stress out about all should i do AWS or or wireless if you're studying for AWS go go hog-wild AWS fall in love with it try your best if you get into I would go all the way to the Associate exam and if you find out or the Solutions Architect associate blahblah they have the worst a certification name in the world but if you go down that track and you finish it and you find that you hate it no harm no foul move on but at least give it the good college try don't go to college but give it the college try it takes time and patience a couple of months to be able to copy and paste code to to get some decent understanding of what you were doing yeah he's right about that gosh I wish I had the time I've even been tempted to I you know what I would love to see and if someone's watching and they have the means to make this happen because I would love to see a bootcamp for programming that is geared towards systems and network engineering because right now we have we have those coding boot camps so it looks so cool but it's all about like web development or data science which would be great but you learn a lot of complementary skills that you don't really need I would love to see a boot camp that takes you super in-depth for what you need to do with our industry that'd be super cool I think be great uh if I got offered Hector's asking a question I offered it to go into a leadership role in IT would you do it how would you tell them no if so for me no I would not do it I don't like managing people I'm I'm a loner I'm very much a loner I I've I've been in a situation where I've had to like tell guys what to do tell girls what to do on my team I don't like doing that I like just I like working on my own stuff so how to tell them you don't want to do it I would just say that your your skills are best at learning and implementing things you you prefer doing that I know it's tough because it usually jumping into a leadership role is tempting because it comes with a pretty good raise a lot of upward mobility so if you if you are into that kind of thing that's great but it does mean you're gonna have to step away from working with technologies more because you'll have to focus more of your time on managing people which is its own discipline and its own set of challenges it's a full-time gig so just do your best to say hey I really love what I do now I think I'm really good at technology I'm it's where my passion is now I'm not closing the door on that chapter but right now I want to develop my skills and become a boss at this yeah I think if they respect you I want to keep you around that's the best way to do these things super towel thank you for that uh that motivation I
