Process Behind Splatter Vinyl Records

Back then, music records were almost always plain black. But today, modern vinyl records are created with stunning color patterns that look more like pieces of art than audio discs. The process begins when PVC pellets are heated to nearly 180 degrees Celsius until they become a soft molten mass known as a vinyl puck. Colored PVC fragments are then carefully scattered by hand across the surface before the material is placed between two metal stampers inside a hydraulic press. Under intense heat and pressure, the colors naturally swirl together, creating unique marble and splatter patterns that can never be perfectly duplicated.
