make my own and i'm telling you right now this stuff's amazing my this is what i'm drinking right now it's the ethiopian it's the best oh my gosh so i'm gonna i'm gonna take a big a big slurp sip for everyone real quick there it is um that is good i love coffee in case you don't know what's my thing with coffee i use coffee for everything it's not just gimmick on my on my channel every time i study or do anything coffee's there it's just a thing it's what i do so on the stream i'm going to talk about this coffee stuff give some coffee away and um kind of do an ama i guess it's kind of a random and hopefully it's okay i'll be honest i was a little unprepared for this because i had a bunch of meetings that i had to go through anyways so what what's my let me actually pull up on the feeling like i got you i got your back so anyways why am i selling coffee well it's something i've always wanted to do like one of my dreams is to start a uh a coffee shop kind of so we'll see if that happens happens one day but for now this is the next best thing selling coffee and uh yeah this is what i drink so if you ask me what i'm drinking it's network chuck coffee and you know what you should drink it too the other reason of why i'm doing this is uh you know that i quit my job about a month ago to do this youtube thing full time to teach full time on youtube and basically make courses for free and and you saw that david bomble's joining me this as well joining me in this as well can't even talk today guys come on i've been talking too much and yeah to be honest i gotta pay i don't know how many years ago it was i was working in i.t at that time and that virus like crippled everybody it was crazy and this is the guy who stopped it he had a whole documentary made about him he had a wired article wrote about him so he's he's a big deal so it's cool to get on the stream he's a reverse engineer uh a malware reverse engineer so he's he's legit knows what he's talking about that's a super fun stream we're actually gonna do another interview because that was mainly talking about the twitter hack which what do you guys think about that the twitter hack i i kind of even talk to you guys it's gonna be impossible for me to find any chats but anyways yeah i um took the encore exam from my home from this very chair looking at me i'm sitting in here i don't know how in the world i'm going to pick a winner this thing is weird and i feel the encore exam i did not study for it i'll tell you why i failed man i'm not doing this again this is like blowing up rmrf yeah your goal is to become a hacker security plus first if your goal is to just not become a hacker but learn about security security plus security plus all the way actually um until you get to the point where uh i'm gonna get out of this thing it's being stupid man going live is never cut and dry or easy all you people give me a hard time about going live it's it's difficult um so dave or dave gabe know a normal person who's just self-paced studying and paying for their own stuff who could do that so it's it's obviously being targeted at companies who can pay for their employees to go through the process that's where it's a little frustrating but i think the the content solid so that's why i'm going through it to see if it's great for you guys and i want to be able to recommend it if it's actually something you should do security plus all the way um i don't know if i can tell you this yet yeah i guess i can security plus is one of those uh exams i'm gonna make for free on youtube which is coming out soon so be looking for that and before anyone asks about the ccna before anyone does anything i know i am making free ccna content here on youtube i've done day zero i've done day one day two is coming i just had a few things that kind of got in the way um just so you know these videos they they do take time i'm not making like i say i'm making excuse for myself yeah i'm making an excuse these videos do take time and um somebody will take more time than others sometimes it takes me forever sometimes i mess up on things like i'm oh it's there's so much involved with it but i love doing it so my goal right now is to pick up the pace and and have a lot more videos ready to go for you guys and i will be posting those videos early on this is it if you don't know what i'm talking about when i say this is it that's mine and david bomble's new initiative where uh it's really cool i i love that i get to partner with david because we're working on something together this this crazy effort which not it's it's kind of weird because like there's there's really not a clear like way to make money from this and that's not our goal that's that's the point we're creating free it training on youtube and uh he he just announced his free ccna today which is gonna be amazing and i i have my free ccna going and we're gonna collaborate on other courses as well to just create a ton of free training and that's our whole thing um we've we've talked about this forever and i could not do this with cbt nuggets and they wouldn't let me um so finally able to step out and do this is like my dream so yeah i will be stepping up the the content creation process getting that out for you guys i'll be posting early on this is it releasing it weekly here on this youtube channel so be that's it like if if it's like if you have to like go back to your spouse be like okay let's look in our budget can we pay for this no don't do that that's that's silly we're producing the free content so you can freely use it and when you get to a point in your career where like i'm banking yeah once you throw a few things my way that's my hope for you guys because like that that's why i'm doing this this is it this is i.t you some of you know my story i started in it when i was 21 22 uh plumbing salesmen i was selling toilets to apartment complexes and then i i started studying for my a plus got my plus certification got a help desk job and i was so blessed to be surrounded by people who knew how it worked so i i worked with the network engineer who was above me who was like yeah you can just kind of study study study for your it certifications you can get your ccna if you come with me to the data center you're not gonna get paid extra for overtime but if you come with me and kind of shadow me i'll teach you things he showed me the path i did that and it paid off like it did i went from making i couldn't have been making more than 30 000 a year as a plumbing salesman within probably three maybe four years i was making over six figures in i.t and i i want to say i'm saying that not to say like i don't want to be like a tai lopez like oh you can make money real fast look at my lamborghini i'm not saying it to say that i'm saying i see this happen all the time i'm i'm not like an anomaly and i and i i've and it's not like that i'm super smart or super special or anything it's not because i'm not like um i've talked with a lot of people and this is their experience because it's a crazy crazy lucrative career so my hope is that i can help as many people as i can discover this path because i feel like traditional education kind of just doesn't see it like this like system admin network admin is a good path or they don't highlight it it's always about going down the four-year degree path maybe some computer science i know they're eventually picking up on that but man you don't even really need in in the us and i can only speak for the u.s you really don't even need a a four-year degree to be successful in this i do not have a degree many of you know that it's crazy what you can do i'm gonna take a sip of coffee i'm telling you this stuff is good so i would be honored if whoever you're getting your coffee from i could replace them and i can be your official coffee supplier so i i i normally order my coffee from some other program but i'm gonna be my own coffee supplier so i'll be honored if i could be if i could be with you in all your study sessions and help you focus and um i know for many of you i'm already helping you in my videos let me help you with the stimulants let me uh let me be a drug dealer for you dimitri clark from our reddit haters uh you know i they gave me great content following my advice i'm starting at 90k that's amazing i remember when i hit uh over six figures i couldn't believe it because i i never in my life i thought that maybe one day maybe like far into the future i might make 70k a year never in my life i thought i'd reach six figures it was amazing amazing and it's possible is it easy no it's not it's not easy you have to study you have to put in the time you have to be creative you have to learn how to market yourself you have to learn how to network and how to network you have to learn the the the base concepts of it but also learn how to deal with people make connections uh i i said this on stream before but the majority of my jobs i've i've gotten over the years it's because i've it was from people i've known who i had relationships with it all started with the first job that first helped desk job and just bringing my a game every single day 100 and how you act every single day bringing your expertise into that in that situation will be your best friend forever seriously um so yeah it's totally possible getting six figures but again i can't promise that because it's a difficult path you have to study hard but it is a cool path because you can i always say this you're basically cheating at life it's a shortcut shortcut i didn't go to college um i skipped i i got my certification which took me three three to six months and uh jumped right into a helpdesk job because you can get a help desk job right with a plus and by the way help those jobs pay great by themselves if you want to make a career out of help desk go for it because they they pay great compared to a lot of careers i've seen a lot of help desk people start out at 50k um so i started out at uh around 35 35 and i just built my my way up from there but you can do some crazy things it's amazing now i would never ask you guys to put your salary right now in the chat but if you if you're doing well let people know in the chat and the comments below because it is encouraging as people start down this path and they start going for their a plus ccna you definitely want to have real talk like yeah you're not going to make six figures overnight just by getting your ccna no no it takes more than that getting your ccna is one step one step the rest of it it could be another certification that separates you and is the x factor that could be it or it could be that you you get a job where you can really work your butt off get get some exposure uh work with technologies that you've never seen before and become an expert in that maybe you're at a job where aw aws or azure is something really new and they don't really have an expert on staff become that expert become that person that's how you that's that's the secret sauce man that's how you separate yourself from the the pack and uh one more piece of advice because this stream is kind of completely random i apologize but it's just a random wednesday and uh i'm hopped up on coffee and i hope you are too uh one more piece of advice i would give you is uh something i wish i would have listened to a long time ago is don't stay at one job too long uh don't depend on raises to get you to where you want to be financially it just won't happen you have to realize that your company's goals are not to increase your salary and increase your skill set to where you're amazing your company's goal is to keep you but at the end of the day you're a line item you're an expense and they they want to keep their op budget as low as possible their operational budget so i found my most the most increased like my raises have always been like really tiny incremental stuff nothing big but i've always found my biggest raises were when i gave myself a raise when i jumped to the next company and that that's scary because it you might be leaving a comfortable situation where you know everyone where you know how to do the job and you're jumping to something foreign and scary and that is like legit terrifying but that's the risk you take and and then during the training realized you don't like it yes yes i um actually i worked for capital one for a little bit it was a call center job it wasn't technical it was before i became i.t focused yeah during the training it was it was in their auto finance stuff so you know capital one does auto finance for cars and i was going to be one of the agents that took calls oh my numbing experience i i i i left like day three or four something like that another one i did is um i worked for sprint it was an at-home job this is before working from home was a big deal i was working at home it's back in 2000 nine i was working at home for for sprint and is the worst thing in the world i was making like seven dollars an hour i left during the training for that that was the worst but it related yeah i've had that too so i've had an i.t job where i always wanted to work for an msp which is a managed service provider so instead of working in it for one company you work for a company that services multiple companies and a lot of people love that they do not for me i worked at this company as uh for an msp for about a week um as a voice guy did not like it i don't like driving i don't like going to client sites i hate all that i like working i like working for one place honing my craft for that one place i like designing my infrastructure making it pretty i like doing all these like i like playing around with it but i do not like going to different companies that's not my cup of tea a cup of coffee by the way that works like coffee i want to keep doing that through this uh stream i'm not going to apologize for it either uh thank you karil sharif for the super chat i wish if i can maybe paste some of these into the stream i didn't capture him all now it's not gonna work he says i have five years experience in software development field what is the better way to switch to penetration testing uh or red teaming well i'll say this man so hacking is one of those things kind of like the cloud where you you can bring whatever whatever skill you have whether it's system admin network engineering coding you can bring that skill set into that realm and become a boss so like a marcus hutchins who i was talking to in my last video he's a hacker but he's a he's a programmer like he started programming when he was like eight years old he knew he was an expert he's like c plus plus and stuff by the time he was 14. and i see expert i don't know if he was like an expert but he was good at it uh he he reverse engineers uh malware which malware is nothing but just malicious software it's just software it's coding um so yeah a good way to start i would just get into um honestly i don't have a great answer for you to be honest because i'm looking at hacking from the perspective of being assist admin or a network admin and going from there and building those skills beyond that i'm not sure i don't know i guess to be a proper penetration tester you have to know all those skills right you have to know about networking protocols and system vulnerabilities so i would just go down a path so like ceh is what i'm going down right now i know many people don't recommend that so maybe don't invest a lot of money in that but there's oscp which i guess i can tell you guys that now i'm going down to scp i've already got things something set up to go down that path after ceh so it is your videos helped any resources you know about to develop projects at home so i'm assuming when you say projects you mean like maybe an active directory server at your house or um raspberry pi stuff or installing network equipment into your house i would say uh projects the home i would just try to what i always try to do is duplicate what i see in the enterprise in my house i've got enterprise stuff in my house right now it's not cutting edge because what psycho has cutting-edge equipment in their house unless you work for like a well unless you work for an msp they might let you have equipment and let you use it to test that's what i would do um like so right now i'm in my house i've got a server closet and this is not uncommon for it people to have this because as you learn you want to you want to lab it up and you end up having in your house i've got an active directory set up in my house i've got two servers running esxi which is a vmware's hypervisor elastic sky integrated i've got what else do i have a phone system running i've got cucm cisco call manager i have uh raspberry pi's galore what else do i have i have a lot of stuff i'm realizing as i go through it oh just all kinds of stuff like a file system uh network attached storage but yeah that's what i would say and of course i got i've got actually two networks running in my network i've got a i've got a static ip from my group of static ips from my uh provider and i have um basically two separate networks running in my house i got one network which is unifi ubiquity and i've got a separate cisco network so just because because i like it um see i just duplicate what you see out in the wild it'll make you a better engineer it does um saliha thank you for the super chat always good to see security to be a unicorn it depends like i know you have your business right so yeah so i would do whatever supports your small business and i think i don't think it's small anymore is it so at your point it's tough to say you want to specialize in networking i would do that ccp security um go to go for a ccp encore uh maybe branch out the systems go some microsoft azure i mean azure aws any of that stuff in the cloud a lot of smaller to medium-sized companies are even looking at the cloud as a way to to be more agile to upgrade their systems quickly that's what i would look at mitchell it could be anything i don't know what you're talking about but it could be i'm going to assume you're talking about any kind of mscp am i like losing it what's the microsoft is it mscp it doesn't matter anymore because um mcse they're like they change they change it so much i i keep forgetting uh they're changing things so it's all azure focus and all role based so what would i recommend well first of all it comes down to what your job wants you to do what what's go talk to your boss go talk to whoever your who controls your paycheck it controls what you do say hey if i went down a path would you want me to get vcp or azure what's more valuable to this company be straight up say what would get me a raise what would get me a promotion what would what would it bring the most value to this company how can i provide more value to the company and obviously i want something out of it so how how will it benefit me ask that question vcp and azure certs are amazing they're both amazing and they're extremely valuable in the right context if you're a vmware guy if you're working with vmware stuff vcp is a no-brainer it's a it's a good thing it helps you move to other jobs it that's a great insight because that's true it might seem like uh right now during the whole thing the situation you know what i'm talking about uh it seems like jobs aren't aren't happening it seems like the economy is kind of crashing and a lot of areas it's not doing so well but we still have an i.t shortage we still have a skill shortage we we need people in this field that's why i'm always like that's why i love this channel that's why i love making content for this because we need people and if you choose this field if you choose this path i can't say i guarantee you a good career but i can guarantee you you have a really good chance of succeeding you can like i told you i you can cheat at life you can cheat this path uh by choosing it path because you can you don't have to go to college you can just get an it certification uh do your best to gain some experience and once you once you have that experience just if you're on a help desk once you have the help desk position you can do so much seriously that i realized i fully realized the the initial problem is getting that first it drop uh getting that first help desk job and there's a lot of ways you can do that i'll i know i keep saying this but i will make a video series on that but once you have that first job you can you can stick to your stick yourself to someone like glue someone who uh an admin above you a system sysadmin a network admin and just go like crazy because experience is the most valuable thing in it the most viable thing and you pair that with i.t certifications if you prove that you're currently a knock which he's a network operations technician he works for a network operations center with a ccna but i feel like my job is not helping achieve my goal to be a network engineer or be in the networking department yeah i see that one thing about a knock is that it's cool because you're already like you're you're and it depends on what knock it is typically when you're in a network operations center you're not super super like heavy networking focus or technical most of the time you're going to be the kind of remote hands person you're sitting there you're looking at things diagrams things and you're monitoring maybe the building you're monitoring the cooling systems and you're you're basically just looking at alerts and if something red pops up you're like i you may know how to fix it it may be some like basic thing or might be like okay my job is to escalate and then a lot of times and i've called you guys before it might be that i have let's say i'm the customer i have stuff in the data center i will call my data center and say hey this bot this router isn't responding or something can you go like physically reboot it press the button unplug it or something and that would be your job as a knock technician to walk into my cabinet unlock it do all that stuff um i when i first started in it when i was on the help desk and i was moving up my dr the job i wanted the most was a knock technician job why though first i was going to be surrounded by networking equipment by servers and the humming and like that to me just like i love being in a data center it is so it talk about nerd city i love it so much the other reason is that in most knock positions and most knock jobs you've got some down time i love a job oh my gosh i love a job where you get time to study if you can find like you can't downplay that enough a job that one of the perks is that they let you study on their time i work for jobs where they would let you have like an hour to study sometimes they would give you more time like if things are just slow where you're not working on a project they would let you study and that's that's killer so a knock technician job you have a lot of down time where you can study you may have access to lab equipment they may just have extra stuff laying around you can lean on the expertise of others and the uh and the knock it's killer it's killer so to answer your question uh i apologize for taking so long so you oh it's not only a question but i kind of know where you're going with it you you're in this position but you don't think it's going to help you reach a goal of becoming a network engineer i would make a move that's what i would do um don't leave anything to chance and what i mean by that is don't just study real hard do your job well and expect somebody to notice yeah someone might notice not going to discount that but don't let that be the only thing be upfront with your managers be upfront with your supervisors say hey i'm here i'm going to do my job to the best of my i want to be i'm going to be your best knock technician the best one you've ever seen but i'm ambitious and i want to become a network engineer i want to move up to tier two tier three tier five thousand that's what over nine thousand that's what i want to be uh can we can we walk through a plan where that happens for me what would i have to do to get to that point be honest and you know what if they say oh honestly we just need you to be a knock technician we don't need you to do anything else then start looking somewhere else because there are companies i'm telling you if i hired somebody oh my gosh i've never had this happen to me honestly if i hired somebody and they had that mentality like they came to me and said hey i want to excel i'm ambitious i want i want to move up in this company i'd be like okay well here can i pay for your training can i do this that i've been in that position where i've i've had to hire people and and that would be amazing i let me tell you this i'm getting so excited about this um when i was a network engineer working in the field when i say in the field i mean like working for a company and i was their network admin when we needed to hire somebody you know what i would do first before we put a job requisition out before we looked anywhere else i would look internally i would look around everyone at that company i would target the help desk i'd go to the help desk and i would see who's hungry and i would even like put a bug in there i'd be like hey uh so-and-so susan susan you look like you like what you're doing we're looking to hire somebody to move up and become a network engineer or maybe a junior network a junior network admin uh could you maybe start going for the certification could you maybe come over and start helping with a few things if they were like super receptive of that if they were ready to go if they were hungry if i saw that fire in their eyes i'll be like okay yeah let's move you up that's what i want the most i would always look at the help desk first i know i'm not unique in thinking that so man if you're on a help desk right now make it clear be honest be transparent about what you want and then if if that company doesn't offer what you're looking for there are companies who who will they value that so that's what i would do uh epic know that you can be a network engineer without a degree and without certifications you can do that the only reason anyone ever gets a degree in nit a degree or certifications is to help them get the job and to give them more value as they move around but i've met total bosses like they are amazing network engineers who knew way more than me who are way more skilled than i was no formal education no certifications at all they're just good they they made they started on the help desk they moved up they learned the skill they had experience and they were able to move up in that job move to other jobs without having a degree or certifications because they had experience so that's what's cool about i.t i love it so much because there's no one path there's no one path to success you can choose your path for you maybe that is a degree and that might be crazy valuable for you for a variety of reasons but it doesn't you don't have to get a degree you don't have to anyways uh eric bros thank figured out what i like yeah um i used to be like a person and no no offense to anyone who's like this like that's fine but like i drank white chocolate mochas from starbucks i love the flavored drinks and coffee stuff uh until one day i realized i need to lose some weight so i went on this like atkins carb free diet and i couldn't have the fancy drink so i'm like okay i still love coffee i need to lose weight i'm going to drink black coffee it took me a bit probably three weeks to get used to it but then then i started trying some good coffee when i say good coffee like this it's coffee i'm selling you go buy it it's not coffee like if you go to like the supermarket like kroger or target and if you're in another country like tesco or something i don't know um careful it's not coffee off the shelf like that this is coffee that will be freshly roasted because for i cannot tell you enough how much it matters to have your coffee freshly roasted how much it matters for the taste because you should only drink coffee that's been roasted within the maybe past couple weeks if it's beyond that which that's why you always want to see a roast roast on date or roast by date i can tell you this when you order my coffee they they get your order they roast it then they ship it to you that's cool um but yeah when you like buy a bag of starbucks coffee at the store i'm sure it might be cheaper but you know what that coffee could have been roasted gosh i don't know last christmas i have no idea so yeah this is like this is more craft coffee for people who appreciate the the flavors and the who may be drinking black or i'm not or maybe just a little bit of cream no big deal anyways i'm going up on another tangent um i appreciate all 500 of you who are still watching this
