There is often a lot of confusion between mentoring and coaching. Some managers say they "coach" their team, but in reality they are giving them detailed direction and more likely to be mentoring than coaching. When coaching is done correctly it helps someone find their own solutions. Not only is that very empowering, it also helps the manager to delegate and create a team of highly effective team members who are proactive and take responsibility.
