[Music] [Applause] [Applause] what's going on guys welcome back to network Chuck and I was just about to schedule my definite associate exam and in fact right behind me here is the checkout screen I'm clicking submit order I am taking the test February 24th at 2 p.m. and yes so I submit this order now $300 that's not cheap I'm gonna get now whoo now many of you may be wondering Chuck why are you taking the definite associate exam didn't you just say that it's not for network engineers um I did I did say that and you know if I'm being honest I still stand by that so why am I doing this well one Mr Dimitry Fiegel he he had Dmitry hello Demetri he's in here say hi Dmitry he challenged me to do this and get me make sure my attest is scheduled yeah I'm good 2:00 p.m. February 24th 2020 first testing day available which is kind of cool if I like I'm going to the the world premiere of like a movie but it's like at Cisco exams so even cooler anyways he challenged me so that's one of the reasons - I'm curious because man I I don't want to be harsh I don't want to be harsh but I thought the COBE harsh you guys know me you know how I feel I think that the definite associate exam I think it's gonna fizzle out I don't think it's gonna hold much weight but this is just me speculating I don't know I could take this exam and it by it might be the most amazing exam in the world and it might take off and just be the gold standard for anyone wanting to become a network developer that might be the case and I'm totally ok with that like I have no dog in this fight but that's my speculation so I'm doing this all sort of just kind of test the waters see how it goes and sorry to me I let me say this I love dev net Cisco Devin it's amazing I use it all the time I just completed the I created the Network automation portion of the new CCNA which is Lyde and check it out and link below and I used definite a lot to prepare for that and both and I also recommended people user labs even part of my labs I said hey connect to DNA Center on dev net it's awesome it's awesome however yeah look I don't know if it's going to now I'll put a screenshot of this later I just don't want you to get all my information and steal my identity because I know there's people in the hacking community here so you never know hey mr. packet thrower who I had live a couple weeks ago maybe his dead netbook will change my life because he is writing the new dev netbook with todd lammle or for Thailand laughter you always forget how to say it but yeah he's uh he's doing it and it's gonna be pretty cool so I'll be doing that now I'm kind of crazy because I'm also I'm also doing my CCP route and my CCMP switch before February 24th with which I've yet to schedule I'm kind of deciding which one I want to do first but boy am i doing a lot right now what it's good it's it's good to be busy I'll be taking a little small tiny break for Christmas but that's about it I I don't know about you guys but when I take breaks I get antsy real fast it almost stresses me out to take a break so it's not long at when I'm in a break that I'm like I want to study I don't know if you guys are like that no question oh definit professional now Oh Demetri you know what put a pin in that sir I'm already doing it on the 24th we'll see we'll see Demetri challenged me to try he hasn't yet but he's talking about doing the definite professional I'll see how the associate goes I don't have my doubts I mean my buddy Jason Ghoulies riding the official definite associate book along with some others and I have a feeling it's gonna be a great exam but I again I don't know now what am i doing to prepare for this that's probably the biggest question like I'm not a programmer I'm not a developer I'm not any of those things however here's what I'm doing Knox and Ben and Keith over at CBT Nuggets Michael Padres just finished up the dev net training as he be seen I guess so on that is live you can check that out the link below I'm gonna be relying heavily on that now the definite associate is a an exam for programmers and getting into networking and learning all that stuff kind of like junior level programmers maybe one year of experience it's kind of what they say so I may have a gap of knowledge for programming what am I gonna do for that well I'm relying heavily on code Academy you know how much I love code Academy coke atom is a place where you can go in and self-paced learning but it's all hands-on hands-on Python hands-on whatever else you want to do my most favorite way to learn programming I got my brother on it too and he's been geeking out over it so link below for that I think they have some deals around the holidays but I cannot recommend them enough I'm a paying customer they don't sponsor me I just I love them that much I do have an affiliate link below if you want to use that though so I'll be using that to kind of bridge the gap learn some Python to get me going and then I'll see how I do on the Devon it associate using CBT Nuggets and if a book will come out before then I'll get a book but it's still so stinkin new William Murray man you were always in it with the super chet thank you sir so you saw my section of the CCNA and he's enjoying it before good good um yeah that was a that was a fun one to make I I did the section of the new seat so the new CCNA if you guys don't know will be also be launching on February 24th and replacing all CCNA tracks and some of the new stuff in the CCNA is like wireless security virgin and the big one ten percent of the exam network automation which is you know a big deal a big deal for the networking community to have the CCNA which has been the gold standard entry level search from our entry level associate level cert to get into the game it's it's it's got a great pedigree now it has network automation which is crazy so I made that a that portion of the CPC nuggets and it's it was really fun so if you haven't got a chance link below for that check it out let me know what you think yeah and also I have a question for you guys for all 239 of you watching let me know by the way I will be announcing the winners of the CBT Nuggets contest here in a moment I know you're like is he gonna say it is he gonna say it I will say it in a moment but my question for you guys what should I start creating content for next not necessarily on YouTube but CBT Nuggets I may have an opportunity just kind of you know figure things out and and go for what might be open out there doesn't have to be Cisco doesn't happen me just what would you want to see what are you kind of what what do you think it would be fun for me to make what would you want to watch me do let me know home labs do the next ch-ch you know I'm on the fence about ceh because I always always hear that and I heard from the cyber mentor which by the way the cyber mentor just launched his new course that'll have to be another video I'm there's too many things to cover in this thing I'm gonna answer this one question cuz he says please answer Chuck can I be certified with the new CCNA without CCENT you're gonna have to be certified the new CCNA without CCENT because there's no more CCENT yeah the CCNA the content the entire the entire exam is more than enough to cover what you need so if you're one for like CBT Nuggets or the the official certain guy that William Odom William Odom William Murray you got me William on the brain window Odom produced it'll cover everything you need I'm so yeah see since going away say goodbye see cent well as I saying before that Oh see eh I've always heard that uh the OS CP is a lot better which is the offensive security something something something oh we love our acronyms don't we I've heard CH is a bit light so we'll see what happened to my CC and pkx 96 asks it's still still improv like I'm still gonna try and do this I've uh can't even hack C eh can't even hack that's what someone said who said that almighty mech that was great I like that one um yes I will be attempting my CCMP routing and switching before before the due date my goal in 2020 tell you this is I want to get as many of those new ccmp certifications as I can just lectin like pokemon cards like it's gonna be five i think it's a me fun I can't wait to see what everyone gets well it's gonna be the most popular osep yet osep Jorge just says is no joke and that would be something interesting I want to try I play wooden produce content for it just because not enough people would really watch that but I'm think about Linux stuff like Linux I'm really diggin Linux um Chuck what happened to your Linux Plus everyone asks I'll be doing that here in a moment I know I keep saying I'm doing everything I'll be giving away something here probably after Chris what is it a day that stays 23rd it's almost Christmas I'll be giving away some stuff for Linux plus years soon and some stuff from unify I'm she's gonna be oh it might be my biggest giveaway so it's gonna be pretty fun but yeah Linux plus is still in the works I'm still very much looking to do more Linux and hacking in the New Year just because it's fun it's always been an interest of mine I've never had the luxury to just dive in so I had fun making the videos I did this year with hacking wire hacking the Starbucks Wireless with with the Raspberry Pi that was I mean it was it was a lot to digest and get going but once you got it it's fun oh my gosh hack to plan it another thing if you're not giving sean powers away for Linux plus then I don't want it Sean powers is a he's a national treasure he's great him in his shirts I mean I'm giving away Sean powers today the CBT Nuggets and give away I'm giving away for three months subscriptions I always just like I have to think is it's for four three month subscriptions Dallas good to see you man how you been I decided to scrap his CCNP journey I start over with the new CCNA I saw your tweet yes not a bad plan I mean because honestly gosh if you like your collaboration guy like myself and when you get in the weeds of like your job and becoming really really great at your specific job functions there are areas in your networking knowledge that kind of start to become weak like it's kind of like working out like you may get into a role in your in your job where you're your right arm becomes like this massive beast but you're left on not working out anymore so you have to when you get back into the CCNA you've forgotten most of thing the things I mean you still are a solid network engineer you can still kill your job but man you got a kind of brush up on things that's good that's a good idea I'm gonna go through the whole CCNA track again just a study and learn Nigel thank you for the super chat he asks do you recommend the Network+ before the new CCNA he likes Mike Myers like I do of course I love Mike Myers he started he got me on my journey that was the first video course ever watched for IT so like it just it paved my way when I saw him minimized into a motherboard so neat but to answer your question Network+ before the new CCNA man it's getting harder and harder to say which one because network plus is a great a great buffet of a lot of things but I think this the new CCNA with the breadth of knowledge it has noun because it doesn't this doesn't just have routing and switching it has security it's got it's got virtualization it's got white let's get so many things I think it's the replacement for network plus not saying it's replacing the entry-level nosov it but I'm saying that I think it's you don't need network plus anymore I'm just gonna say it I think CCNA is the way to go I think it's it's a great entryway it's everything you need a great sampling that's kind of what cisco designed to because they they trash the seasoned goodbye see sent and it's the first circuit you'll take probably and then you decide to specialize in the professional tracks now that being said if there are things in network plus it is you because you got a little research as you look over the syllabus and the exam objectives if there's things that are in there that you think I really want to know this I think it's gonna be valuable then go for it I mean I I helped create the network plus training on CBT Nuggets I'm I'm not like against the network plus but I think the new CA is compelling I want you to save time I want you to excel in your career I want you to save money cuz the exams aren't cheap I just scheduled a three hundred all exam and I've got like four more I'm taking in the next year in or next months you got it you got to maximize it cuz time is the one thing you can't get back I mean gosh times so valuable at the same time you do have time to figure it out you can get both network plus and CCNA so I'm kind of double talking here but I think the CCNA probably is the the best option right now I think and I said it in my my last video I truly believe it's it's the best IT certification right now not the most valuable one because obviously there's there's higher ones that you can get paid more on but I think it's the best one right now just because of what it covers and the the name recognition when you put that in your resume and you're trying to get started into IT it just says a lot about you it does now there's no way to currently any way to differentiate between an old CCNA vs. a new CCNA so that's that's you know gonna be interesting but we'll see Peter polo asks should I try the CCIE Enterprise or go for another CCMP um I I think honestly honestly I think you should go for another CCP because I think there's so much more there's a lot more compelling things in the new CCNP track so you can just pick up so many cool things it's gonna be interesting to see how things kind of change the CCA Enterprise is gonna be a beast though I mean it's gonna include all this new network automation stuff I mean basically it includes and I'm kind of realizing this as I'm saying and it includes every ccmp specialization so if you're going for CCIE enterprise it has every ccmp enterprise specialization as a kind of a prerequisite knowledge not a prerequisite exam you don't have to take it to move on to that but prerequisite knowledge so and talking with the cisco certification guys like the idea was that you collect all these to advance to the next one you don't have to but it's advised because all that knowledge you're gonna need before you get there oh thanks again IGEL for the super chat it's the time and Mike Meyers - Mike Meyers is he's a he also is a national treasure so Ursus asks advice on how to slog through boring instructors when watching vids on udemy CBT and other mediums first of all thank you for the super chat second of all what boring instructor on CBT we're all fun no I understand that there's pot like even the most entertaining instructors can't make the most boring material pop out I mean the when you're talking about certain theories that are just like you just have to memorize some terms it's not you're not labbing it's not necessarily the most sexy thing out there how do you deal with that I think you shouldn't take it slow mix in some fun stuff while you're going through that maybe break it up because I know it's like it's like eating your vegetables it's it sucks so yeah I would just kind of if you have to go through a boring part because I'm assuming the instructor isn't boring all the time so boring part comes up just make your way through it but maybe interject some fun things in them in the middle because you the key to keeping your study consistent exciting fun is to make it consistent exciting fun put some fun stuff in there you have to keep yourself interested you have to keep if you're not having fun you're not gonna do it anymore you're not gonna keep going there are always be times you have to put some grit forward but man hack your study don't make it harder than it needs to be make it fun for yourself and that's what I would advise a Ryan or M is it going to be very hard to get certified with a new CCNA you know we'll see I know myself and injure me Troy and Keith we produced the new CCNA content but and we will look at the exam objectives and we you know brought a lot of assumptions from the previous CCNA exams but none of us know what the new CCNA exams actually going to be like the only people who know that are the people who made that exam so yeah we're all gonna take it and we're not gonna tell you when but we'll take it and we'll see how it is it could be vastly different than we expect or it could be exactly what we expect we'll see we'll see my expectation is that it's going to be um similar to the current CCNA exam but it's going to be a course just cuz of the subject matter we have now Oh Nigel coming at me with another super chat where is the gaming PC well he's right there behind me I'm streaming on him right now he is quiet I love him I will be making a video about my build I I started to build it I filmed the whole thing and then I realized I had a ton of work to do and I had a ton of stuff to do and I could not I could not edit that video so yeah I put in the back burner I will be making content about that soon is my first PC I built in like oh my gosh like I got 10 years so it was it was a fun experience I did some dumb things as you would expect because you forget but it's it's a beast and I love it and I'll tell you all I have later I can tell you now Dallas I thought packet tracer was cheesy until Keith did a video on it they keep doing a packet tracer it's it's becoming such compelling tool oh my gosh Khalid asks which book do you recommend for CCNA so um the new CCNA I recommend my Vince just went on for the new CCNA I I'm excited for the new todd lammle book coming out in January mr. pakka thrower who's very active on my discord channel and also he was my YouTube channel all back he helped write some of that the Network automation pieces it's gonna be a great book so I'm excited for that one that's the one I recommend but it's not here till January so we have to wait window Odom's is always solid the only billing but when I got a pic with Wendell Odom is and I get it but it's it's it's sometimes dry it's dry I think he puts too much in it and not enough of him like who is window Odom I want to get to know Wendell I think it's important when you teach or when you write to people need to know you I think it helps to progress through an entire course if they know who you are a little bit and it's a it's it's hard to do it and when writing and it's hard to put a ton of content out there so Wendell I love you I love you too I love your book but uh just a little dry that's a little dry but it's still solid I'm Safari Books Online does have those CCNA books already up there thanks Dallas was I did read those and they're great yeah and and I love that he released the packet tracer Labs the manuals but you know shameless plug CBT Nuggets new CCNA we have labs built in so you are literally watching a video you click on launch or virtual lab and boom you're in our lab and you're using routers you're using switches you're following along it's really cool ooh good question Terry he lends a network job how long do you think I should stay that's a hard one because you make money by moving that's just how it is the days of being loyal to one company forever are gone I would say at minimum at minimum before you cuz you wanna make sure your resume looks good at minimum you want to stay a year because then you look like a job hopper you don't wanna be a job hopper people want to you know value you at minimum a year and then after a year start casually looking unless they give you a compelling reason to stay um BSR casually looking as long as you're increasing your skill set and your learning which you should be you'll find some good stuff so at minimum a year he asks John Owen volume two of the new CCNA is getting released they released it it's on it's on safari books online oh they call it O'Reilly now it's on there I've been reading it coffee and Zelda that's a cool that's a cool screen name in the bathtub with bubble bath going watching your bed I hope he's like a TV or a laptop and fall in this tub and I'm gonna be horrible but hello making content a resume building for network engineers that would be fun that'd be a fun one because that's something I've been doing a lot or I have done a lot my career but I want to take a break real quick I'm going to announce the winners well I guess I'll switch to my screen to my contest page let me get me here there we go can y'all see it time to pick the winners we had a lot of entries and it is over and now I'm going to draw the winners four winners will win I will draw them now no repeat winners and let's do this drum roll drum roll drum roll Jody picked that's too fast let me zoom it in all right we've got Ahmed Mohamed Jeremy solve it Congrats I will export to oh wait I just exported it too I'll announce them in the widget so okay they are in the widget here are the winners Congrats CBT Nuggets we'll be reaching out to you to get you guys set up for three months which maybe doesn't seem like a long time but dude if you set out to like have a concentrated study path you could you can kill it Dallas is asking what kind of coffee am i drinking you know I forgot so I I moved out to a town that necessarily isn't close to my coffee shops so I have to order my coffee online now so I set up for this subscription I'm still testing out I'm not gonna recommend it till I do it for a while what they've been sending me coffee and I think it's some kind of some African oh that's a medium roast but it's delicious oh my gosh and they send me a different one every time it's amazing anyways um who so good um Tim asks how about videos of a typical day in the life of a network engineer that would be a good one so to do that I would need and this is where I'm asking you guys I would need access to a network engineer cuz I'm obviously I work from home and I produce training now I'm a teacher now I don't go into the office anymore um I would need some access to a network engineer and a job that would let me putter around and film things and sign some NDA's and stuff you know that would be fun I've been thinking about that as you spin that barrier it's a time-consuming process it's a really it's a huge time-suck to making content when it's to make it making it good it takes a lot of time um driz asks is it better to use Linux on Microsoft Store or dual booting it dual booting zat pain don't do that at minimum I would recommend using VMware Workstation which is what I use all the time best situation is having servers in your house that's you watch machines on which I do all the time also yeah the Windows Store the One X went winix Linux thought I'd be a new thing it sounds like Windex though the windows subsystem for Linux I it's good it's good like that yeah there are limitations setting up the gooeys kind of troublesome and it's not super fast but it's good for learning someone asks is Linux Academy good for learning the CompTIA Linux plus um I did use it for a bit I perused them actually I said I think I'm still paying for it right now I need to cancel that I perused them for a bit for the Linux plus I'm they work they're good I'm kind of harsh on training and when you become like a teacher you kind of harsh another teachers it's good though it's it's solid I would still recommend Sean powers because he makes it fun but Linux Academy just got bought out by a cloud guru if you don't know who a cloud guru is they are the the main providers of well not the main providers they produce AWS content as your content there are lot cloud content so they have some solid courses and they purchased Linux Academy so now they had this massive portfolio but the big big problem the big question was well if I'm subscribed to Linux Academy when do I get access to a cloud guru stuff and I thought subscribe be a cloud guru when do I get access to Linux Academy is the price gonna change is gonna go down or up confusing right so they haven't talked about that yet if anybody knows shadow way but anyways Oh Yonatan help us hit your name right thank you for the super chat so yeah it is still early how long to study for the new CCNA gosh yeah preliminaries are still like I don't know I think I forget how many videos are I think the new CCNA we put out for the the training is like 55 hours that's a lot of content so before I would recommend like if you refresh into networking you want to maybe do three months for the CCENT and then maybe two to three months for the CCNA so so or icnd2 so maybe maybe I would say three to six months for the CCNA just depending on where you're starting at because I mean the new CCNA is it's a it's a beast it has a lot of stuff you're learning everything from-from subnetting to routing there are things taken out that aren't there anymore we're only learning OSPF at this point but yeah I would say six months at at the most I would say like you could probably get it done faster but uh 55 hours it's a lot a lot of time is there a timetable for CCP content covering the encore exam on CBT Nuggets thank you again mr. William Murray I know that the team at CBT we're starting immediately on the content now so we don't have a specific timeline but we're pushing on the content immediately that's all I got for you I wish I could tell you more but we're starting it now Jota is that like a play on words the Yoda self-study versus in-class training for CCNA my thoughts so this is it depends on what your your how you learn so if you did great in high school and you loved the teachers just telling you stuff you love lecture style training classroom training might be for you for me I hate classroom training I I took a bootcamp online last year with the teacher and I was miserable I'm never doing it again because I'm a self-study person so at that point I would say whatever your preference is but also point to being an IT is one long self-study session that's all of this because you're never gonna stop learning and you're not always gonna have a classroom to teach you something so you may be on the job and the jobs like hey we're going for the cloud and we're gonna go to Asher we're gonna go to AWS who wants to learn it no never mind you're Bob you're learning it Bob you're learning it you have to be able to self-study you have to be able to teach yourself they may not buy you like sure some jobs will pay for your training which is cool but um man a lot of the times for me they did not pay for my training I could barely get them to pay for CBT Nuggets so that's what I got and I think self self-paced training self-study is a discipline in its own of its own I think it's important for you to learn that so I would say start out with that ideally if you're just trying to get your foot in the door and you're new to IT classroom training might be a really great intro because you'll have someone there to kind of talk to you like oh I don't know don't do that dummy do this instead like that's that's fun that's good to have like a mentor there with you but you can't take them with you on the first day of the job so I self-study is probably the best situation ideally both answer your question Kevin asks is there a course coming for on CBT Nuggets for ansible or kubernetes am I saying kubernetes right I don't know if I am anta bull we already have one from Sean powers it is from the the server admin sysadmin perspective not necessarily the network admin what is cool as I did on my network shameless plug on my Network automation portion of the CCNA link below I did a automate some Network stuff with an tabouleh because that is required to know about and the new CC name I I don't know about any coup for any stuff on the on the horizon oh I'm a Saba says he has a problem I don't have to concentrate on one field well welcome to the club sir I think we all have that problem I always go on explorations or exploitation 'z have web hacking physical pen testing and stuff can I help them yeah you're gonna have to you're gonna have to pick one and focus just for a a bit at a time just a time you don't have to go all in with something and like become like make that your identity but you need to focus at least for a certification focus for a certification is worth amount of time that's what I would do you want to have something to show for it so for example if you're like okay I really want to check out Linux go for the Linux plus go for it complete the entire thing uh it's kind of like you know your kid picking up violin like you're gonna you're gonna learn like the first like three lessons they get bored and like I hate violin no you're gonna do it and so your first recital and you're gonna you got to do that you got to do that get past the first hurdle get your certifications say aye aye I did it I got the the metal the award I would do that that that way you you first you get something for your efforts and to you you get past that moment where maybe got a little hard or and maybe the difficulty caused you to kind of become distance disinterested or maybe there was one particular part that's kind of stupid but if you moved past that part it became amazing that that's what I would advise because it I you and me both back away now because Network automation has been talked about for a long time and when I was on the job as a network engineer you know no one was doing it it was just kind of an idea people like learn Python Larry Python and I was like I was going back and forth like learning Python I don't like no I'm not gonna do this I would start and then quit and start setting for CCMP and I'm like you know what I need to get my CCP collaboration so most are studying for that I just boom Bing Bing Bing I look like a ping pong game bad that's really bad because I had nothing to show for at the end of it I spent all this time learning bits and bits and bits and stuff that I forgot and I had nothing to show for it so yeah that would be my advice learn and focus for certifications worth amount of time oh dude ask the bottom earned a CCNA just has passed me it was promoted to a network engineer should I start going to the CCP or in the dev net field you know it's hard to say because I don't know what your job entails I'm gonna make some assumptions I'm going to assume that your job is probably a more typical network engineering position where it's not so much programming or automation just yet but they may be thinking about it if it were if it's that then CCP all the way jump into the encore get that encore under your belt pick a concentration your concentration could be the automation concentration if you really want to just get interested in that now if on the on the flip side if your company's nuts there's nothing cool and they're doing all kinds of stuff with automation and they're looking for someone to just step up i-cut become that guy that would be a cool way to go down either way you're gonna win but I think if it's more of a traditional networking environment you'll win more if you go down more traditional paths so if you go ccmp honk or maybe even get the advanced routing specialty so the NRC it's gonna take forever for me to remember these acronyms but then don't stop there I mean that that's that's what I'm gonna I'm gonna have a video about this once I take the exams but I'm curious where we're the dev net associate the Deb net professional and then the automation specializations in each of the concentrations were those or those sit which is better which is worse because I know that the the automation specialty concentrations for the CCMP it it has Python it has you're looking at Sdn and and more stuff than just the the CCNA did so I I'm curious um bill thanks for the super chat and he says CBT Nuggets for Avaya you see I don't think we have a via on our on our platform and honestly I don't think we're gonna have any time soon just because the Avaya spine it's you sound I'm very popular I mean they went bankrupt it's not a very popular path right now so that's my answer I'm sorry but I mean let's be honest everyone's going more standards-based so sip is sip you learn it on Cisco you're gonna pretty much know what on Avaya a lot of the concepts you learn a cisco you're gonna you can apply to Avaya but I understand when you get to the GUI you get to the particular commands and how they do things it does but they borrowed concepts in the concepts of a hunting group and a lion group are borrowed and changed names onto a via it's kinda like the cloud stuff anyways alright anyways guys um it is the holidays and I need to go because I got spent on my family I've been working too much but uh this will not be the last time I'm talking to you before the new year I'll be making it maybe a few videos after Christmas giving away some stuff and then we're gonna bang out the new year it's gonna be awesome I'm so excited cuz there's so many things to learn all these new certification is being released man it's gonna be cool did I miss anything I think I think
