Colombia Puerto Rico this is incredible I welcome all of you um again as Elena said I'm Luigi I'm a product manager here at data Camp um I'm very passionate about AR Health Data running design particularly design I'm actually very enthusiastic about the the idea of we all contribute to the way we are designing the world we are all designers in a way um creators Engineers lawmakers data scientists we all make decisions every day that have the potential to impact how hundreds of people live their lives uh years from now anyway so you can reach out anytime on Twitter or LinkedIn if you want to talk about any of these philosophical topics or also any of the things that we're going to talk about today um we have about 30 to 40 minutes together so I suggest we make the most out of it and of course um do you started and you come here looking to make a data portfolio hopefully or you want to advance your career in some way and a data portfolio is part of that Journey um so to put things into perspective or things into context I thought it would be best that we start with a story and the story as many of you by the way this is a real story from one of our most engaged engaged users um but to protect their privacy we will not reveal their identity okay um so let me introduce you to Charlie Charlie is a data engineer by the way um of course if I'm saying things that you can relate to it would be amazing if you can share them here in the chat uh we can of course share the pain together but what we all what will be even better is if you can share that and also help each other as well maybe you can also share what how you solve other people's problems um that would be really cool I mean maybe we can have some sort of collaborative webinar as well I will be trying to keep an eye on the chat and try to spot some of those um stones that we find in there um anyway let's go back to Charlie Charlie is a data engineer um and as many of you and as many of us probably Charlie starts their story with hey I want to switch jobs I want to learn something new I need a data portfolio and you might be an early student you might want to learn something new you might be balancing multiple multiple jobs you might be maintaining a family in this case Charlie only has time to work on their portfolio at night after putting their babies to bed so Charlie starts Gathering older projects and very soon realizes that it's a bit overwhelming actually um so it goes into step one Gathering the projects it gets a bit overwhelming this is busy Charlie uh Charlie has many things in in in their head it's like hey too many projects no none of them are actually good uh which one do I pick is this good enough this is where all the things are going through Charlie's head and probably many of us as well I I definitely go I've gone through this Pro through through this problem and you start thinking hey is this what I want to do is this how I want to represent myself in the data science space but let's say Charlie picks their top three projects then the next step comes which is where do I put these projects um and this is gumps with freaking out Charlie Charlie starts thinking so many tools we have GitHub we have Wix we have webflow yeah webflow one of you is saying here webflow um so many tools but actually you start looking around you see a few examples online and then you decide let's go with Wix everyone uses it let's just go with it that's simple and then you realize actually I don't know any kids so let's go with wix once you decide to go with the works then you realize this is frustrated Charlie by the way let me introduce you to to them this seems like a great template you start your journey with wits you find a template that you like and then you say actually is this unique enough because you see 10 other templates that you look exactly the same than yours and then you say actually is this how I wanna really showcase myself myself as a data engineer you still you start to build some frustration some anxiety throughout the process and by the way all of these are great tools don't get me wrong it's just a process in which we are building our data portfolio that helps us bring these negative emotions around it and and I generally don't think that should be the right way to approach this because this is our work this is this should be something that we enjoy this could be something that we're proud of um we shouldn't have any anxiety or any any negative feelings towards this thing this is how we are showcasing ourselves this should be an amazing thing something that we're proud of to to share with the world so we thought that might be a better way and uh this is this is Charlie this is joyful Charlie this this is when we told them uh hey Charlie this is what we are working on this is how we want to to improve the way of making the data science portfolio um and I'm aware by the way I'm aware that this process is not as linear and probably you go to a few iterations you do some testing as you go along you gather feedback from other people I'm just simplifying the story for the sake of it um GitHub very confusing I agree especially to make a portfolio out of the blue um I agree I'm just reading a few of the comments here Story of My Life mine too guess what um very relatable uh yeah yeah very relatable I agree a few people from Texas I can relate to the look to looking like an egg well I can relate to that too well done it's really a few of the comments here um but anyway I'm aware that this story is not linear um so I just want to jump into some of the goals for today what I really want you to live this webinar with is two main things okay two main things number one is clear and actionable tips and resources that you can apply to your portfolio regardless of the tools that you use it doesn't matter you should be able to apply these Concepts to the portfolio and the work that you do and finally you should leave this webinar enthusiastic about how to approach your data portfolio this is your best work how you choose to represent yourself you should be proud of it okay this is this is the work that you are this is your best work in your very in your very own eyes and this is what is what really matters okay um and we're gonna achieve that by going through these points Point number one is the power and the future of data portfolios which I'm very excited to talk about a few of these and we can have a huge debate about it but maybe we can leave that for for the after party um tips on Crafting portfolio we're gonna also be introducing the datagram portfolios in beta which I'm also very excited about the team has been put in loads of work to make this happen um I'm also going to give you a sneak peek into the future of the attack on portfolios because we're far from ready and far from done and finally I'm gonna give you the chats to all of you to to ask some questions and have a q a session where we can share the pain share the future share feedback we'll see what comes out of that let's start with the power and future of data portfolios again data portfolios let's actually summarize this in a nutshell it's just an aggregation of your best individual projects you put them together and and you you create this tool that actually represents who you are in the data Community the data portfolios usually are I'm I'm I'm covering a lot of ground here but they usually can help you in three main areas number one land your dream job number two with your personal branding number three is hands-on experience okay um and we're gonna Deep dive into these three in a bit in a bit but before we go any further I would like us to take a step back and just observe for a second let's actually play the the third person here let's observe where the world is going um as you may you might have heard there's this new thing called AI which actually is not that new AI has been around for decades um it just it's been around for decades but in 2020 in 2023 we started seeing the rise of AI we started seeing loads of applications it became became accessible to to the consumer pretty much um and what happened is that when the ones the individual got access to all of these things um a lot of the industry and a lot of the things that we're working on started to change it started to enable other other actions it started to make things easier and within the data space among other things what will happen with AI is that it will reduce the barriers to entry for people to extract insights from data you will not need to be an expert coder if at all to extract these insights from data a great analogy actually that I would like to refer to is Instagram and let's just take a quick trip to 2010 let's just go back in time for a bit as you might remember mobile wasn't the right but if you wanted to post a picture online what you had to do is take the picture probably with your camera or maybe with some basic phone that you have added to your computer use it as a tool to edit it then add some filters to it poster to Facebook or Myspace or whatever social media you were using at the time so it was a bit complex there were a lot of steps you needed some software you needed a computer a camera loads of stuff Instagram comes along and then they say actually you take a picture with your phone you apply some pre-made filters and it's really easy and accessible you post it right away now anyone could take a picture add a filter and then post it with just a few clicks and you might think yeah but it's not actually a great picture yeah that's fine but for 80 of the use cases that was just enough to post it and it created a whole Market that we actually didn't know about and now imagine the exact same but across Industries again AI is not just a feature it's not just a product it's an industry enabler and what I'm really interested in excited about is that AI will lower this this technical barriers that we have we have created and Empower more and more people across Industries to extract insights from data marketing Human Resources sales that are not generally technically driven and talent what can leverage data by using Ai and start making data driven decisions which I'm very excited about and here's a great example from our workspace to our workspace product if you haven't tested I truly recommend you can create a few a few plots uh you're using specific data by only using text you only type and you chat with it and then you can actually try to extract insights from from from the data you're working on I recommend you you take a look so in short the point I'm trying to make is the same way we saw the rise of design portfolios and the same way we saw with Instagram 2010 and design portfolios in the early 2000s we will see the rise of data portfolios across Industries um but why like how can these data portfolios actually help me in my day-to-day life so let's go back to the very beginning which is what I mentioned the power and future of data portfolios we use it to land our dream job personal branding and hands-on experience these are the three main areas that you will always try to go back to refer to and try to keep in mind when we build the data portfolio this is the goal that we are initially trying to achieve um but for many of you or I would say probably most of you at least it was for for me at some point my main goal was usually I want to create this data portfolio to achieve my data dream role right my data portfolio tells employers what I'm interested in my skill level what I'm able to achieve in a set period of Time how I solve problems how I approach problems which is very important as well um so it's a combination of things it's a multi-dimensional tool that we need to take a look from different perspectives um personal brand your portfolio should showcase how you want to be acknowledged in the data community and keep in mind as you evolve and growing your career your portfolio and as it is the case that we're going to see in a bit your portfolio my serve of inspiration to other Junior data enters yes so keep that in mind that you in a way are that role model that other people are looking up to or you could even be a tool if a network tool for for you to network and collaborate and find people that have similar interests um and finally the the hands-on experience and and I I want to emphasize this because if you're starting your data career the mere Act of of making a data portfolio will will actually help you build that muscle and on how you you tell your data story uh how you work with relevant projects and data sets and start thinking about your interests in the data space explore different areas and avenues and believe it or not this is a great experience and a great self-discovery exercise for you um this is I'm gonna we're gonna jump into some of the tips now but before we do that I do want to share uh some of data of some of our resources you will get access to these slides by the way so I put some of these resources so it can get you can get started and gather some inspiration from as well some data portfolios from from other people and some of the projects as well um and uh here as well you also have some of the content that our our content team have been doing and by the way they have been doing a fantastic job at capturing all of these insights and all of these edge cases and they have created truly I absolutely fantastic content so a big shout out for them uh I have put some of my personal favorites here but I would definitely recommend you to explore uh more than what I'm giving you this is just up to get you started and to get you in the right path all right let's jump into crafting your data portfolio very interesting stuff and if you remember Charlie we're gonna go back to Charlie's step s we're gonna go to Step One collect your projects again keep it simple three to five projects that showcase your passion and skill diversity how can we get started Believe It or Not recruiters see hundreds of applications per day and dozens of these portfolios have tons tons of repeated projects that you see over and over and over again and believe me you don't want to be one of those so how how do you solve this well best portfolio projects are those that come from a place of authentic passion from within so focus on things that you're actually passionate about that you want to talk about that you can't stop thinking when you go at night and see like focus on those things that keep you awake at night next yeah great projects demonstrate your skills your technical skills okay um but you don't need to show every skill that you have in one project so make sure that all your projects complement each other that you show a diversity of projects that actually you you have a specific skill in in this area but then these other projects focuses on another area and then a third project and a third area and so on finally avoid cookie cutter projects um they don't help you show your passion but related to this point I do want to emphasize that cookie cutter projects have their purpose they can help you learn in getting started gather inspiration explore Concepts see how people solve certain problems that's for sure like don't don't completely discard them but avoid making them your own in your own portfolio try to be a bit more authentic than that let's go to step two host your portfolio and regardless the tool you use always keep the reader's experience in mind like you are in a way designing an experience and the experience that you want the reader to go through is the most important part uh let's start with how you guide the reader to the relevant information don't overwhelm them okay try to keep things in Focus try to build some hierarchy in your page or in the content that you're making it's really important number two make it keep it visually interesting I have seen tons of portfolios that are just a wall of text maybe some data visualizations at the end but just keep it visually interesting and try to keep the the readers attention again especially in today's economy where our attention span is very very short and also recruiters are viewing hundreds of portfolios per day so you need to be able to convey the message in like 10 to 20 seconds if and that's a lot okay that's a lot so keep it visually interesting try to make a unique deeper authentic finally on this point is pick a tool that allows you to Showcase different formats okay um when you start you probably start with a few projects but as you progress in your data career and and you you might be some of you might be interested in this some of you might not but some of you I I know that many of you in the audience have written many great articles of medium uh maybe podcasts even that you have been guests in podcasts um videos webinars that you have done pick a tool that allows you to expand and grow so you don't have to keep changing tools every time um your portfolio and your career will grow will expand so make sure that you pick the tool that expands with you and grows with you finally step three make it personal space believe me a strong personal brand makes you stand out as an individual if you can become that that little portfolio that stands Out Among the hundreds where that recruiters see every day you will be remembered and the way to achieve that is remember tell a story like draw draw the user walk the user through your journey okay you're the hero of your story so make sure you convey that emotion of what you're passionate about and these things are kind of connected um third point is adapt your Project's design and write in style as a template don't try to reinvent the reinvent the wheel with every project don't try to make something new or try to to when I when I say make something new I mean don't don't reinvent the the language or the image try to keep like a similar and consistent style um across your projects that will that will first convey some sort of uh some sort of a professional element to it they they will realize that you have put their work and the attention and attention to detail which is fantastic but at the same time it just helps you stay consistent and once you have a template you are able to to to simply just rewrite based on that template as well and you don't have to rethink the same the same process again finally remember your soft skills and this is very very overlooked explain how you solve the unique Challenge in a project okay um the your thought processes might be as as important if not more important than the actual solution that you came across or that you arrive to at the end explain how you approach that problem how you solve it um this goes a long way um now the challenge is that this advice is valid across or most data portfolios um however we still have the challenge of still takes a lot of time regardless of the tool you use you you spend a lot of time and energy and along with that there's still a lot of stress an anxiety that comes with building the portfolio you don't know what to do uh you don't know the wording that you should use uh there's there's a lot going on and we're probably really busy still learning a lot of these data science Concepts that we might not be super familiar with so it's a lot of or maybe even balancing a a full-time job during the day and learning at night and then when do I build the portfolio so there's a lot going on in our heads when we're going through this process um and that often with time it also requires learning new skills in the same scenario we get that as many of you are saying here in the in the comments um you need to learn new things or maybe even learn new design skills I'm actually you know what I'm not a good designer I can't design a website like how am I going to build this webflow or website if if I how am I going to make it unique if I can't even combine two colors and you know what we're all unique in our own ways we have different skills we don't need to be perfect at everything so um we need to figure out a better solution for this um which is really why I'm very excited to jump into the next section uh which is the data comp portfolio better um and then it is absolutely impressive and let me give a shout out to the team because what they have been able to do over the last couple of weeks um it is absolutely impressive and just a caveat we are far from done there is still loads of things to do here there's loads of things that we want to do and I'm excited to share with you in the follow-up section um but let's start with the data portfolio we designed data cam portfolio so your personal brand and projects can take the center stage okay um also in a way where you can add a great diversity of projects from the very start okay data portfolios should be able to accompany you along your data Journey you shouldn't be able you shouldn't have to change every time and as your experience grows your person your data portfolio should be flexible enough and evolved so you can adapt it with almost no effort we should be able to remove that effort or that anxiety of all I need to edit this new project and add it to my portfolio you should be able to do that in a few clicks like that should be a thing a given or even take it further and your data portfolio should be able to recommend you changes as you grow in your data Journey um so let's see how data portfolios can help us through these three steps and how Charlie's experience could have been different um if they had done it with this let's say that if you are already a data cam user your workspaces and projects already got you started okay your portfolio you probably will find that it's already pre-filled and got you started with some some placeholders or some of your projects that you have worked in the past you just you might need to edit them or pre-order them if you need to um and if you are not a data cam user yet don't worry you can add projects from any other site very very quickly you just need to copy paste a URL and we're gonna do the important of the rest of the data for you if you want us to so now hosting your portfolio is it should be very very easy which is what we're gonna go now hosting the portfolio um we have made your Datacom portfolio experience or trying to make it so easy that is super well integrated with your datagram account and with the rest of the data products so no need to worry about learning a new technology or learning new design skills or learning like what colors will match what was my personal branding what's my personal style you should focus really on making great projects projects that you're really passionate about and also make it unique with your personal brand with your style of writing and the rest is just a compliment that contributes to to the rest of your data story um and this is why I'm making it personal your personal branding is also very important and here really our goal is to give you as many elements as possible to Showcase your personality in the portfolio the headline is one of them them is a great example if you're struggling and this is a this is a great addition from the team if you're struggling with that or what to write or build this on anxiety we can even try to help you and get started we're using AI to provide some examples and Inspirations and hopefully you take that inspiration and transform it into something even more unique and here are a few of some of those examples um the last one here in terms of making it personal is portfolio highlights and and this header should really showcase who you are as a data professional you have your Technologies your name your role um your top projects that you are most proud of and this should guide the reader and again goes about the reading reading experience they should guide the reader and narrow their focus so they can they focus on you on these three projects focus on the Technologies and then if they are interested they can click in either of this and then see and read a bit further and then if they are even more interested they can scroll down and then read the rest of the projects and gather more information about who you are as a data scientist um but again keeping keeping it narrow focusing on specific information is also part of our goal here at the same time by allowing you to add the right information that is good for you and making it personal and unique um so again we really want to make portfolio building the portfolio building experience as seamless and enjoyable as it can be ever so you can truly focus on making great projects and showcasing your personal brand um and push your data portfolio and your projects like further and Beyond okay so I have great news for you foreign ERS with Early Access actually we started rolling out gradually so I suggest that you go take a look um and we will be rolling out if you still don't have access we'll be rolling out over the next few days so don't worry about that uh we'll we will be we'll be it will be getting to you don't worry um now but we are far from done actually like if you start looking around the experience it's far from from it's far from perfect and I'm the first one to say that so that's why I'm really excited to look into the future of datagram portfolio we still have a long way to go here um and and we have still a loads of potential okay I I'm so excited to show you what we're gonna do um because I believe I truly believe that we can help you even more and always make that process even more seamless um so let's actually jump into what's coming up um next a new editing mode is on the way and it will make creating and updating your portfolio a lot faster believe me we have we have been trying a few of this uh of these features and believe me you you are gonna love this it's it's gonna be so smooth and very very fast and we well our goal is to help you save time when building your portfolio and we want to make it as smooth as possible um the team is working really hard in getting this to you as soon as possible so keep an eye out on your portfolio over the next few months don't worry rest assured the new editing mode is coming um as I mentioned as well your personality and personal brand will make you stand up so we want to make the portfolio that to where you can truly Express Yourself showcase the projects that you want so we there are a few more areas where you can personalize and customize so keep an eye out for that there are a few updates coming on this too and finally um your data portfolio is truly never done it's always a work in progress in the same way that we are always a work in progress we are always growing always evolving always learning something new and we want that data Camp portfolio to accompany you along that journey and help you make the portfolio as good as it can be in every stage of your career but always with minimal effort so imagine that you can have that data professional portfolio and it's giving you advice on how you advance your career or or how you to improve it as you make advancements in your career on the on the side um so yeah so there is a lot of things that we can do here and I'm really excited to to roll out a few of these features but keep an eye on on the next few months on how we can help you also make this happen um and finally there is also something that I'm really excited to share with you our marketing team has been putting tons of efforts um work behind behind the scenes for this there is a portfolio competition with very cool prices coming soon and the great news is that you can get started right now so keep an eye on our socials over the next few weeks this is coming up uh I suggest you get started right now yeah but by the way it won't take you too much time if you if you already are if you're already on datacam you have a few workspaces and projects done uh I'm sure you you have done a great job already in in setting that up it should take a matter of a few clicks to just organize your portfolio for that uh finally to summarize this is to recap then we jump into q a wrap up portfolio data portfolio tips keep it simple three to five projects um regardless of the platform and tools you use just just remember um the resources that I link into the presentation as well keep reading uh some of those explore and go beyond to what I'm sharing this in this presentation this is just the tip of the iceberg this is not the whole thing um but again sorry three to five projects that show your passion and skill diversity let's let's go back to the slides um always keep the reason ex reader experience in mind regardless of the tool you use very important and also strong personal brand that helps you stand out and be memorable finally the new data comp portfolio if for whatever reason you decide to use datagram portfolio for sure you will save time you will save energy no need to learn new skills technical or design skills um but also I want to share that we're far from done so help us build the experience that works from you share your feedback with us you can't imagine from from the product perspective you can't imagine how important this is for me personally so help us build something that is amazing for you help us build something that you want to showcase to others okay um share feedback with us and you will be able to do that through the product and if for whatever reason it is not possible or you have some feedback that you woke you up in the middle of the night you can always reach out to me on Twitter or LinkedIn my details will be there I'll I'll I'm very usually usually very responsive um reach out and share your feedback help us build something that is great for you um and finally uh start gearing up there is a data portfolio competition coming up in the Horizon and there are very cool prices coming up keep an eye on on socials the the prices will be announced there I'm sure you will like it I've seen some of that and it's pretty cool um so thank you again feel free to reach out on LinkedIn or Twitter or X or whatever name you want to use um I suggest we jump into the Q a and share some of your comments as well thank you Alina sure uh thank you very much Luigi for this amazing presentation and I've tried portfolios myself even that I'm like I'm not a data specialist but I do have some data projects in my portfolio so it really took me like several minutes uh since there was like this really seamless LinkedIn in parts of my work experience so yeah I enjoyed it a lot and thank you for and thank you the team for a great product and now let's jump uh to the questions we do have a lot of them uh there are a bunch of similar questions so um let's start with this group of questions uh and these are about like uh private or sensitive or confidential projects so Luigi do you have any tips on sharing private sensitive or confidential projects in your portfolio or how will you share these kind of projects yeah that's a very okay so let's let me rephrase that uh for more how to how to show your projects are private sensitive or confidential in a portfolio and this is a very tricky one and I would say that there is no the real answer would go in a case-by-case basis and and it would really depend on how do we Define confidentiality uh are you putting other people at risk is it your own personal confidential data uh is it your company's um so it will really depend on on what deal you have um I would say reach for like Reach Out further with the with um with your with your company but usually what is actually confidential this could be two things if we break it down okay it could be the data set that you're using is confidential or it could be that you have some sort of Ip that's the software that you use is some sort of Ip um that you can't really call your own so try to break those down if you if the data set that you're using is confidential then you have it easy you can just use a mock data set if the the project that you work on is some sort of Ip that you don't own then you probably have to go into some sort of negotiation with uh with a company the company that you're working for I would also add here uh let's say if you were working on a project that like has been released let's say you contributed to a certain part of a website or a service you can actually add a link to this service if it's available online and like add a description what specific Parts have you contributed to um so that could be helpful if uh like uh your project has been uh released and that's a lot of value as well right right it is something that is actually helping people and it's out there in the world uh link yeah for sure you're absolutely right so the next question we have how can data Engineers showcase their work like how data analysts show visualizations I leave that up to you it's very very hard because to be honest uh data and in terms of visualizing things uh data analysts my habit it's slightly easier because the work in itself could be completely visual um but if you're as a data engineer can figure out a way to Showcase complex algorithms or how how data is sent from one place to another or you can have a nice graph or visualization of the pipeline and how things are connected and how your thought process right how you go from very raw data and collecting that data into into a more digestible and then maybe some I have no idea it could be a case-by-case basis but if you can show that visualization that could actually be really helpful and it gives you an idea of hey this report that you're gonna see here can be summarized by this Visual and this is how the dots connect together and use people tend to be really visual um and I don't wanna I don't wanna um generalize here but if you provide a high level visual of how the dots are connected then people tend to actually understand the report even better um yep agreed and also like also two cents from my side I do encourage you to uh share your projects via workspace notebooks because workspace supports SQL and all of the modern cloud data warehouses so you can import your I don't know if you ever worked with jupyter notebooks you can import them to workspace and share them as part of your portfolios and they would look really good even for non-technical people because you can hide clothes and only like leave the visuals and the text or you can show the codes and this way like highlights uh your technical skills or once again like Luigi has mentioned multiple times that a lot of people uh share their portfolios via git uh so if you do want to share your code you can also add a link to your gitrep or uh to your data portfolio but also combine it with like other resources and um other amazing content that you've created uh as part of your portfolio right and it goes back to organizing the user experience right like if you don't want to show and overwhelm the youth the user or the reader with a lot of code you can just hide some of those cells and actually focus on the text and the insights and let the reader decide actually I want to see how you solve this problem in code and let them open up that cell workspace is a great tool for that you're absolutely right yeah perfect so we're moving to the next question so when you are developing a data portfolio do you need uh like a peer review of your project do you have any tips on that I would say 100 and this doesn't only go with your data portfolio I think this will go with everything um there are tons of resources online and I would say you can this is like actually a great way to network with people and I have done that quite a bit for feedback is you find people online mainly LinkedIn um if you if you don't have anyone but I can actually give you actionable feedback find someone that you're inspired by find someone that you look up to and say hey I really like XYZ that you have done um can you this is my up my attempt to do this portfolio and to make it very similar to you I look up to you would you mind giving me feedback uh worst case scenario that you don't reply to you right um but if you don't if you have someone in your near Circle maybe a professor a colleague definitely try to look for feedback and as early as possible um the last thing you want to do is that you work endless nights on your portfolio and then actually this very small feedback from my colleague just makes you like open up your mind you're like wow oh I didn't see that before and then you won't have to rework how you do your portfolio again um yeah definitely feedback is always important true and people do answer on LinkedIn if you reach out so yeah the next question we have uh is a bit technical so you um uploads projects to portfolio are these projects the property of the author or of the hosting site um can you repeat that you so um when you upload your project to data cam portfolio are these projects still the property of the author because for example like I've created a Jupiter notebook and I upload and added to my portfolio to my datacam portfolio do I still own this project or does this project become the property of data camp um of course it's always yours uh they yeah we are you this is your work data cam is not owner of the of the or any platform should be owner of the the work that you do in the same way that you make you do something in Photoshop or and share it after one in behalf uh this is on the designer space if you are not familiar with um if you share on the hands and be hands or adobe is not owner of that design of work that you have done it's the same way here um if we're reading the question correctly yeah um like let us know if uh you need any clarifications the chats are so the next question is uh and we had a bunch of similar questions so could you explain what is a cookie cutter project yeah I mean great question I was actually just reading that one there I realized like once I read cookie cutter in the comments like all the other cookie cutters popped up um yeah for sure cookie cutters by that I mean there once you type online this is actually a great example we we I suggest you do that right now best data science or data analyst for portfolios or projects that I could add to my portfolio you are pretty sure gonna get a few that relate to Lego sets uh some Titanic data you're gonna get some like global warming data and that's fine that's what I mean by Cookie Cutter projects is that they're pretty standard and many many people know about it and because you might be starting in the data science space um you might not be too familiar with it but just just be aware they exist and keep an eye out for them you wouldn't like to just add the same project that 100 other people have done and they are familiar with the result because the reality if there's nothing wrong with them but the reality is that you're not going to have enough room for creativity and you're not going to have enough room for problem solving and the recruiter is going to be actually you're not telling me much for this project um it's easy to tell if the project is a cookie cutter uh sorry we have lost Luigi for some reason um I guess Luigi will now reconnect um for a second let's wait for a second yeah we've got Luigi on the way don't worry Elena um if there's any q a that you want to run through now it might be a good time to run through those and then yeah yeah I can run some of the questions through some of the questions so we have another question um is uh data portfolio accessible to share to potential employers uh yeah sure so it is actually really easy to share data cam your portfolio uh you can simply copy the link uh from the browser and put it to your CV your LinkedIn profile or just share directly with your employers so they will see your data cam portfolio not in the edit mode but like in a viewer modes if you want to see how your portfolio looks like in from viewer site you can just pass it also in cognito window and check it there Luigi you're back we're happy to see you again yeah not sure what happened there no problem no problem I was just answering a question on how uh to share your datacam portfolio with potential employers and I've mentioned that it's super easy to share just via the link and uh I also love it that you can check it yourself uh how it will look like for potential employers so yeah so the next question would be to you what about joining a large open source projects um is it okay for an UB to participate in open source projects and add them I assume to your portfolio um I would definitely I wouldn't see why not um definitely being able to complete contribute to the community is definitely a big win um even if what you're you're you're at your your icons where where they were very minimal I think it's still a win it shows it depends on the on the type of projects on the open source project but it shows that you can collaborate with other people's code bases it should showcase that you can you have teamwork skills which are also very important depending on how you collaborated in this open source project um I would definitely you can add it as a contributor many people have actually created tons of packages of packages or contributed to some of these packages and there we have seen some of them being added to the portfolio so definitely and I would also say a lot of senior people do that just as a passion and this also helps to Showcase your uh like that you are authentic in your data portfolio yeah yeah yeah the next question we have uh is what makes a data portfolio stand out maybe I don't know three things that you think uh makes data performers stand out very very hard to summarize in three things but I would say go back to the the the the personal branding section and try to deep deeper there in short what you really want to have is unique projects okay um a unique visual way to represent yourself and a unique way of writing so I would say personal projects and personal branding is what will make you start stand out and be memorable okay and uh the next question is for a complete beginner do you suggest one two more in-depth projects or three to five weaker projects very good question um Cornell actually there is no there is no from my perspective there is no right or wrong answer here if I were to do this I would suggest one to two more in-depth projects that focus on on a specific set of Technologies because actually if you go on the weaker side you might not be showing your full potential so you might you might want to just focus in this one or two and make sure that they complement each other right make sure that they're not exact same projects with exact same Technologies with the exact same process make sure you use a different thought process a different problem a different data set um yeah go deep don't go shallow yeah okay then we have another I think very relatable question I have no idea what project to do or how to find projects how do we learn uh to data scrape or I assume like the question is about like how do you learn uh what project to start with in your data portfolio in your data sorry I think we're also having some like uh sound troubles can you mute yourself in an unmute just uh let's try this for a second what about now yeah um I'll get all good okay keep me posted if I wish this still pops up um I have no idea what just to recap the question I have no idea what project to do or how to find projects um how do I learn to data scrape um we have a great tutorial for that our content team has done data scraping tutorials for different with different examples different scenarios um might be we might be able to find some of those if not you can just go to forwardstatacam.com forward slash tutorials and just search data scraping you will be able to find it there in terms of data script we also have a few courses I believe that involve data scraping but I would say the tutorial is a great story perfect and we have the last question uh what about PhD projects can it be valuable or to dance I'm completely new to portfolios yeah PhD projects can it be valuable or too dense I am completely new to portfolios I would say depends on the roles that you are applying for if you are looking for jobs if you're just looking to Showcase your personal brand definitely for sure if your PhD project is relevant to the role that you're applying for 100 at it like is a great value this is like my thesis or the project I've worked on if not that much then probably um is better to either keep it simple you could write instead of just linking to the main main report or main thesis or main uh paper that you have written maybe write a much simpler article that is much much more digestible and easier to understand for the audiences but definitely this is a great piece of work that you probably invested years of your life working on so if it's relevant at its uh 100 for sure uh we have one more question uh that I missed uh what is your opinion on hackathon projects should we put those on the portfolio I would say so 100 um and again this will be there is no real like 100 yes you should add it I'm kind of contradicting myself here but uh if you think this hackathon project was actually good and it's in a good State uh and it's it's something that you're passionate about that you can talk about then definitely add it this is something you worked on uh it's a great project it's probably unique if it contributes and it follows that checklist then of course add it but it's definitely not um don't take all what I'm saying with absolute truth or always take it with a pinch of salt and they all need to apply to your own use case um so again this is oral advice and guidance on on things that you could do but you always have to figure out your own way to express yourself to your own way to be creative so yeah and always think about the reader right so what do you expect I don't know an HR person review 10 projects that you put on your data portfolio if yes then go ahead and do that if you're saying that you want to highlight like three to five projects then it's worth identifying what showcases your skills like the most so your portfolio shouldn't like probably have everything that you have ever created but it should tell a story about you so if it tells a story it does a great job um yeah perfect so it was such a nice discussion we had so many questions Luigi uh before we wrap up I would like uh to remind our audience that we have a lot of upcoming webinars and events so do check them on register for upcoming webinars and of course try datacan portfolios
