so I've seen a lot lately on the need for teachers to engage in self-care and there's nothing wrong with this I think having a treat yourself day is excellent going and getting a massage going to a game watching a movie whatever it may be is fantastic but something about the word self-care rubs me the wrong way and I think it's because it places the entire responsibility on the individual on the teacher on the self and it doesn't address things like a sub shortage or not enough resources or policies that emphasize standardized tests above everything else the truth is what we need is a change in systems and policies and so I would love to see a shift from self-care to something called teacher care where we recognize that all teachers both individually and collectively deserve to be treated with respect [Music]
