But but that's IOU ranking kind of breaks that rule with the shared memory model and then yeah we found few security bugs and I think they have been since bashed but but yeah and for a for a time I think Google even disabled IO uring for a while uh I don't know if they still does and and I think even in Chrome Chromium books they disabled that because they were worried about security but essentially this is the idea of IO you submit you get so you and don't have to worry about it. the colonel will do the actual read and that will get you get back your result and then yeah you're all happy and unblocked same job same same semantic understanding you're no longer blocked so you can you're free go explore the world my friend but I want to talk about this idea of IO uring a little bit here if you think about it I ring itself the ring itself is nothing but a file descriptor just like EOS when you do EOS Okay. So where the question is like where do you put this file descriptor? Well one idea is to put it in the file in in the backend process itself. So each backend will have a single private uh IO ring instance and that you can issue your reads using that and you'll not have to worry about anything else. But that problem with that design is you will have a lot of file descriptors as many as backend processes and that might be amount of extra Cost.

The video explains the concept of IO uring, its security concerns, and how it can be implemented in backend engineering, with references to NodeJS and Chrome.

Key Takeaways
  1. Understand the concept of IO uring and its shared memory model
  2. Identify security concerns and potential bugs
  3. Design a secure IO ring implementation
  4. Consider the trade-offs of different design approaches
  5. Implement IO uring in a backend engineering context
💡 IO uring can be a powerful tool for improving backend performance, but it requires careful consideration of security concerns and design trade-offs.
