Classroom behavior is worse for the simple reason that there is less accountability every year. Not only is this the case in the in the home with families, but also in our own classrooms and schools. It's now associated with something that that we should be ashamed of. Which is absurd, of course. Holding students accountable is a good thing and it's good for their their future development. As long as it's based on rules that protect learning in your classroom, that protect everyone's right to learn without interference, without being made fun of, uh with without being bullied, it's a good thing. So, don't be ashamed. Be bold in holding your students accountable in your classroom because it's the right thing to do. Don't apologize in the teachers' lounge or with your your administrator. Stand on your own two feet, hold your head up high, and say, "Yes, I hold my students accountable."
