what's up y'all this is NASA from my geometry where we discuss software engineering by example guess where am i today I'm a beautiful Istanbul man here for two days before I go to Bahrain and I wanted to make a quick vlog and videos training now so I'm gonna make a quick as possible right so when I went to the LAX Airport I was checking my Instagram account right now I was as I was checking it right I turned flipped it to airplane mode and what happened okay I lost connection right I just closed my phone and I reach Istanbul I got a new chip and then I left these apps open right and then the moment I got the internet connection back right everything was okay I mean I was browsing fine I was going to a pages buzz and Instagram was really slow I just refreshed the page right and histogram was really slow I was thinking what happened right I get I get a decent connection right I got a decent 4G 4.5 G 4.5 all right G and I think everything's fine so what's happening right so then I remembered the algorithm of Instagram and LinkedIn what they do is when you sign in they hook you to a data center they remember that Hussain has signed in to the west coast of the US of the data center and they make sure to always connect you to that data center the last server to that cloud right so when it come to Istanbul and I did not close and reopen the apps the same app right so it was hitting the West Coast all the way from the Middle East right from Europe basically and and that was causing the lack so I was seeing like tags coming back I was seeing this is a beautiful view man look at this yeah everybody taking selfies right so yeah I was seeing all these tags coming in but the pictures and videos are loading really slow the Lord I signed out and signed back n now histogram knew my location they knew that hey Bob I know it looks like this guy has changed his location the last time he signed out so let us point him to the Europe server or the Middle East server or whatever server they are using and then immediately a second became okay and that's just interesting way of load balancing right and the way of controlling your servers and that this makes this is this is a get very this is a very fun my wife says like hurry up we need to go like this is interesting right so as we discuss like databases like how close your database I made a vlog go check it out right I'll try to reference it here but like keep your servers closed a new database closer and that's a good example of why the latency where the database became so far and the server becomes so far the latency increased and that showed in the performance of the app okay it's raining it's raining all right we're gonna sign out here love from Istanbul you guys take care

Original Description

While in beautiful Istanbul I noticed Instagram slowed down drastically despite my good internet connection. It was not until I logged off and logged back in It was back to normal. I explain why I hit that performance hit in while walking in beautiful Istanbul.

The video teaches the importance of datacenter proximity in application performance and how load balancing can be used to improve it. The speaker shares a personal experience of Instagram slowing down in Istanbul due to being connected to a data center on the West Coast of the US.

Key Takeaways
  1. Identify the data center location connected to your application
  2. Determine the distance between the user and the data center
  3. Assess the impact of latency on application performance
  4. Implement load balancing to connect users to closer data centers
  5. Test and monitor application performance after implementing load balancing
💡 Datacenter proximity can significantly impact application performance, and load balancing can be used to improve it by connecting users to closer data centers.
