Systems thinking to navigate complex challenges

*How do you make sense of complex challenges and see the bigger picture?* Designed for navigating deeply complex challenges, the UNSW Innovation Hub’s Systems Thinking and Design for Change approach helps our partners bring systems, relationships and opportunities for impact into clearer view. When challenges are shaped by interconnected structures and dependencies, it can be difficult to know where to act. Our approach supports teams to step back and explore the wider system a problem or opportunity sits within. Through a structured consultation and strategy process, we combine systems thinking with visual communication to map how a system currently operates. Working collaboratively with partners across university, government, industry and community contexts, we identify patterns, points of friction and opportunities for change. Using mapping, visualisation and shared sense-making, our partners gain a clearer understanding of how services, products and ways of working fit within the broader system.
