About this lesson

In this math tutorial, learn how to multiply binomials and their conjugates, which I sometimes call, "the evil twin." Follow along as we simplify an algebraic expression step-by-step, demonstrating the distributive property and canceling out radicals. Simplify the expression to get the final result. This is a sneak peek at Yay Math's Algebra All-in-1 video program. One video, ALL of Algebra. #AlgebraTutorial #MultiplyingBinomials #Conjugates #SimplifyingExpressions #MathHelp #DistributiveProperty #RadicalCancellation #MathTutorial #MathTips #MathTricks

so the thing to multiply 4 plus < tk2 by is what I like to call the evil twin 4 minus < tk2 all right so they're kind of twins but one's positive one's negative and these are technically called conjugates right when you have binomials like this two terms it's fascinating to actually see even to this day after so many years that this actually multiplies through and becomes no more radicals that is grammatically incorrect but it doesn't matter we're doing math two distributes here we go 2 * 4 is 8 2 * < T2 is minus 2 < tk2 okay numerator cool divided by let's distribute 4 * 4 is 16 4 * -2 - 4 < tk2 < tk2 * 4 positive + 4 < tk2 and then < tk2 * < tk2 call a root times itself is the number inside where we go there it is so that'll be minus 2 all right -4 < tk2 plus 4 < tk2 goes to zero bye so we have 8 - 2 < tk2 little Tradition at home with our kids they're like I just did it now showing you the love I notice factors and we have 4 minus theun of 2 all over 7 or some teachers prefer that you divide into both you could say 47 minus < tk2 over 7 as well take a breath onward let's go
