The Scott Madden EIU Power Brief, a concise, high impact companion to our energy industry update, offers focused perspectives on current topics and emerging trends across the global energy value chain. Concise yet substantive insights that inform decision-making in real time. Less than a year after a new presidential administration has taken [music] the reigns, it has initiated many policy changes, reversing the actions of the prior administration. In this power brief, we discuss three of those changes. First, we examine [music] the EPA's reversal of its carbon emissions policy and more broadly, its emission standards for fossil fired power [music] plants, seeking to go back to pre-Biden administration standards. Second, we summarize how new tariffs and tax credit changes are impacting renewable energy development. Third, in October 2025, the Secretary of Energy directed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to announce rules that standardize and facilitate the interconnection of large electrical loads, including data centers. While the commission is interested, jurisdictional issues and an [music] aggressive timeline could be a hurdle to rulemaking. This power brief also examines developments in power markets, [music] including rising capacity costs in some regions with growing demand and ongoing bottlenecks in power plant construction. We also review gas market developments as these markets increase in importance with the acceleration of natural gas fired generation development [music] and anticipated liqufied natural gas exports. Finally, we take a quick look at the power blackout in the Iberian Peninsula in April 2025 and [music] what, if anything, it may portend for the North American power system. The Scott Madden Power Brief, timely intelligence, strategic perspective, energy insight redefined. Read the report here.
