Rust’s Stack vs. Heap Memory Model

ArjanCodes · Beginner ·⚡ Algorithms & Data Structures ·1y ago

Key Takeaways

Rust's memory model utilizes stack and heap memory for efficient data management, with the stack handling fixed-size data and the heap managing dynamic data, all without a garbage collector.

Full Transcript

rust uses two memory areas stack and Heap the stack is for fixed size known at compile time data like integers and floats the Heap is for dynamic data with variable sizes like strings or vectors stack allocations are faster than Heap because there's no need to look for space but Heap data needs a pointer and must be explicitly managed rusts compiler helps manage both automatically with ownership rules so you get the speed of Stack memory and the flexib of Heap all without a garbage collector if you want high performance memory management rust is a really great choice
