Remove Falling Rocks Before Disaster Strikes

This is one of the most dangerous jobs in mountain engineering. These workers are sent down massive cliffs to remove unstable rocks before they crash onto roads below. In steep mountain regions, highways are often built directly beneath fragile rock walls that slowly weaken over time. During winter, water seeps into tiny cracks, freezes, and expands, gradually breaking the cliff apart from the inside. To prevent sudden rockslides, specialized rope access technicians descend the cliff using harnesses and manually push loose boulders down in a controlled way.
