Quantum Computing Is Closer Than You Think

Microsoft says useful quantum computers could arrive much sooner than expected. At Microsoft Build, Satya Nadella announced Majorana 2, Microsoft's next-generation quantum chip. According to Microsoft, the chip's qubits are 1,000 times more reliable than previous versions. Why is that important? One of the biggest challenges in quantum computing has always been reliability. Today's quantum computers are prone to errors, making it difficult to solve real-world problems at scale. Microsoft believes Majorana 2 is a major step toward practical quantum computing. Even more interesting, AI helped researchers discover and develop some of the new materials used in the chip. AI isn't just changing software.
