According to the latest NCRB report, 5,737 women lost their lives in dowry-related cases in 2024, while more than 1.20 lakh cases of cruelty by husbands or their relatives were registered nationwide, reflecting the persistent crisis of domestic abuse and harassment. Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of dowry deaths in the country with 2,038 cases alone. Among southern states, Telangana recorded the highest number at 144, followed by Karnataka with 112, Andhra Pradesh with 71, Tamil Nadu with 7, and Kerala reporting just one case. Meanwhile, Delhi ranked highest among Union Territories in crimes against women, underlining the urgent need for stronger law enforcement, faster justice delivery, and deeper social change.
