About this lesson

Managing underperformance or inappropriate behavior at work can be challenging, and the pressure is on to get it right — say the wrong thing, skip a step, or move too fast, and you could expose your business to serious risk. If an employee hasn’t responded to feedback or a performance improvement plan, or if their behavior was so serious that it’s fundamentally affected your trust in them, you might be considering issuing them with a warning, or dismissing them from your business altogether. This practical seminar, hosted by HR experts Julie Morris and Chloe Dion, is for small business owners and people leaders who need to manage performance issues fairly, lawfully, and with confidence. We’ll walk through what a good performance management process actually looks like — from raising concerns and investigating issues, to making defensible decisions and communicating outcomes clearly. What you’ll learn: - What poor performance, misconduct, and serious misconduct look like - The role of feedback, records of discussion, and performance improvement plans - How to prepare for a performance management process - Understanding the various steps and process required - Managing difficult behavior and unexpected responses during the process - Formal Warnings, Final Warnings, and Termination (including summary dismissal)
