Utilizes Unreal Engine 5 for advanced visual effects, simulations, and cinematic finishing

Original Description

Updated in May 2025. This course now features Coursera Coach! A smarter way to learn with interactive, real-time conversations that help you test your knowledge, challenge assumptions, and deepen your understanding as you progress through the course. This course is designed to take your Unreal Engine 5 skills to the next level with advanced visual effects, simulations, and cinematic finishing techniques. You’ll begin by mastering the Niagara particle system, where you’ll create custom particle materials and complex water effects. These skills will extend to creating splash effects, dynamic ripples, and integrating them into your environments for enhanced realism. In the second phase, you’ll explore fluid simulations, learning to create fire VFX and control properties like heat and smoke density using the Niagara fluid system. You’ll also work on complex atmospheric setups, including volumetric fog, cloud formations, and a dynamic sky that responds to your lighting setup. As your environment comes together, you’ll add organic elements like animated birds and fireflies, enhancing the visual storytelling in your scene. Finally, you’ll focus on the final touches needed to complete your projects. This includes color grading using post-process effects, camera composition for cinematic shots, and rendering your environment for final output. By the end, you'll have a complete project showcasing fluid VFX, organic animations, and a highly detailed, visually striking 3D world ready for professional presentations. This course is aimed at advanced Unreal Engine 5 users, visual effects artists, and game developers. A solid understanding of UE5 basics and asset manipulation is required, as well as some familiarity with particle systems.
