Mastering the Project Quality Management Process with CPMA

Full Transcript

In this video, we are going to outline the project quality management process. Imagine we are building a house. Project quality management is like making sure that every part of the house, from the foundation to the roof, is strong, reliable, and meets our expectations. Project quality management ensures that the final result of the project meets the expectations of its stakeholders. Just like we want our house to have all the features we asked for, a project should meet the expectations of the people who requested it. Project quality management helps catch mistakes early on. If you are building a house and find a small problem with the foundation early in the process, fixing it is much easier than discovering it after the whole house is built. Fixing mistakes after a project is completed can be very expensive. Quality management helps prevent these costly errors, saving money in the long run. The project manager has the ultimate responsibility for the project quality management. The project manager plans, manages, and controls the project quality. However, every project is unique. That is why the actual nature of quality management will be different in different projects. For some projects, quality management may mean simply responding to complaints regarding the quality of project outputs. For other projects, quality management efforts may include inspecting outputs for quality before they reach the clients or end users. Some large projects will have a dedicated quality department. This department will lead the implementation of quality management methodologies. A quality-driven project is likely to have a quality management process consisting of three elements: quality definition, quality assurance, and quality control. Quality definition is the first component of the project quality management process. Defining the quality of a project means deciding the desired standards that the project should achieve and having a plan for achieving those standards. After defining quality, the next step is quality assurance. Quality assurance is a systematic approach to ensure that quality standards and processes are implemented during the project implementation. The goal is to achieve the defined quality standards and to proactively avoid defects and errors. Final step of quality management process is quality control. Quality control is a systematic effort to verify or test whether the project's final outputs have met the quality standards. Quality definition, quality assurance, and quality control. These three components are connected to each other, and they together ensure project quality.
