Key Takeaways

The video discusses the difference between localhost in IPv4 and IPv6, explaining how localhost is translated to an IP address and the implications of having both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled. It covers the fundamentals of networking for effective backends, specifically the DNS lookup process for localhost and the choice between connecting to IPv4 or IPv6.

So local host is a host name is a DNS entry. You can think of it this way, right? And you it's useless. The word the string local host is absolutely useless for TCP. So you need to convert it to an IP for it to work on TCP. You cannot just although you technically using curl you type http colon localhost this down the drain down the stack gets translated to an IP address right the trick here is we have two protocols we have IPv4 and we have IPv6 or this net right so the problem here is which one to connect to IPv4 IP v6 Hussein, wait a minute. Local host, I know that it's 127001 and that's the IPv4. What is the IPv6? Well, it's col 1, right? And that is basically the loop back IPv6 version. And if you have IPv6 enabled, which I think it's always enabled at this point in 2024, you get both. So local host if you do a DNS lookup it will resolve to two it will resolve to I to col one and and and 127001 which one do you want to connect to right which one and this is where things started to get interesting the moment you get a choice the moment you get and this don't not only apply to local host applies to normal DNS query
