hi welcome to the data Tech so this is data engineering job review Series so today we are going to uh discuss about one of the job description and job requirement from a company called PayPal right so we all know what who what is PayPal and what actually they are doing right so PayPal has a opening called senior data engineer so let's just do a review of their uh skills and then the desired skills and skills okay so we don't want to get into job description directly let's get into job requirements so the first requirement is for to seven years of experience in the IT industry experience in data technology space is preferred okay that means it's not only like only data people should come to this role uh or apply to this role even you are from java background and now you are learned some data engineering stuff and you are planning to apply for this or you are from Front End you you have learned data engineering and you are planning to get into it yeah you are most welcome so that's what they are saying and Proficiency in any programming language Java Python scolar and that means anyone is enough Java or python or Scola because all these three are supported in spark they're expecting for spark only okay so even some 10 programs in ja in spark can be written in Java and then the 11th program can be written in Python the workflow will not be get Disturbed and the experience in MPP system when I say MPP massive parel processing spark is MPP map reduces MPP even Flink St is all like MPP so any one MPP is like must working experience then spark is an MPP it's already there and strong SQL programming skills of course data Engineers should know that concept of data warehousing working knowledge in big data and streaming Integrations okay so connecting integrating Big Data uh system and streaming as an integration like streaming when I say streaming integration they didn't mention whether it is streaming processing Technologies or streaming retrieval Technologies okay what does that mean spark streaming fling streaming or processing technology they can process the data but if you take technology like Kafka they are like only for retrieval transferring the data so they didn't mean what whether it is processing or uh data pip data retrial tool like afka but just we need to know some we need to have some knowledge on integrating the systems and then like what else so let's just get into only the line in which they specified the skills the technology name okay yeah so if you see here knowledge of Hadoop spark hbas And Hive is highly preferred okay so this is something very interesting line for me the reason is because people in the recent days so the video which I'm recording it is on 131st 2025 and uh this is 3 days old uh job requirement which got posted in LinkedIn jobs but even in this 202 pH still people are expecting High that's what I used to say for many people hi is always add as part of the mandatory skill set for a data engineer they should add as part of it because people will say no how how Hive is being like dead or Hive is like fading out but it is not guys so people are still using Hive and people are still in the process of migrating Hive to something else so even in that way we need to know how the hive works and still Hadoop see Hadoop is still there because when people say Hadoop is dead I used to say guys please don't say that Hadoop is not dead only map ruc said that Hadoop is dead so don't just say Hado is did okay fine so working and uh knowledge and working experience on cloud platform is highly preferred okay it's highly preferred try to learn some data uh engineering uh services in AWS or Google cloud or any other Cloud so you can just pick only three to four Services that's it so just have some knowledge on it like EMR data Pro Etc knowledge and working okay so desired skills knowledge in MPP database massive parallel processing database again hbase cantra mongodb the no SQL database which has been already mentioned in the above line and knowledge on Big Data environment and Cloud integration is plus okay it's plus Okay add on that's it okay it's like uh plus but yeah integrating uh the the Big Data environment with the cloud is becoming and very Plus for people to add it as part of their resumate so as you onboard your big data jobs into Cloud systems that is where we call it as Cloud integration okay data quality and profiling tools exposer to ba tool desired but not required okay it's it's just knowing it is fine because most of the data engineering Downstream sometimes not most of the times I can say sometimes it's going to be some uh visualization tools like TBL powerbi micro strategy Etc so knowing any one of that tool and how it works is preferable not only that even you can create some internal dashboards for your jobs like you trigger some uh schedule some jobs you have some 100 jobs running on your cluster you can just create a graph or you can create a chart saying that how much this particular job took and how much this particular job is running whether it is failed or not you can create some attractive dashboards that you can share it with your leaders right so these are the very um uh every technology that they have mentioned this I can say this J is very clear and need and their expectation is really good because they have thrown like all the skill set a data engineer should know you learn so and so so and so and then in the real time you will not be working on so and so technology right so very neat very clean uh so they have mentioned two important points I was very much interested with uh the two points the first one is data technology spaces preferred I like this word actually and like four to seven year of experience if you are coming into this if you know howo spark that's it guys you can apply for this and even uh like Cloud integration is plus if if you are not having that as a part of your skill set it is find but they are saying it is a plus I like that word as well and this bi tools it's like exposure is like tools are desired but not required I like this as well that's why I say they are very straightforward the people who created this JD is really good they had some knowledge of actually creating the JD so and if you really like such videos just comment yes so that I'll get some encouragement to make more
