Is This Goodbye to Animators?

About this lesson

Is AI killing the animation industry? Is the animation industry dying with all the threats to it, with show cancellations and mass retrenchments? Is it even worth studying animation? With all the uncertainty brought to the animation industry by AI, show cancellations, retrenchments, and everything else going on, many animators, or aspiring animators, have been questioning whether animation is actually a good career path to follow. I've seen tons of people asking if they should study animation or look for another option. As much as I love being encouraging, I also need to be real. The landscape is changing. AI is costing people their jobs. But there are opportunities as well. And there's a difference between generative ai, and all the other types of AI out there, and not all of them pose a threat to us. We need to weigh up pros and cons and look at the the bigger picture. Maybe you won't lose your job to AI. Maybe you will. But maybe it'll give you new opportunities within a tumultuous industry.
